#icitizen #WeAreConcerned #GeorgiaDrought #GeorgiaOnMyMInd Myself and a few friends went to investigate the Tallapoosa River. The Tallapoosa River is one of the major water sources that flows east from Alabama into Georgia. I was blown away at the level at which the water had declined to.

Alabama Gold: A History of the South’s Last Mother Lode presented by Peggy Walls
When gold was first discovered in Alabama in the 1830s, years before California’s famous gold rush, thousands of miners
and prospectors flocked to places like Arbacoochee in Cleburne County and Goldville in Tallapoosa County. In the early twentieth century, Hog Mountain, located in northwest Tallapoosa County, became one of the top gold producers in the Appalachian states. This month, author and Hog Mountain native Peggy Walls will trace a century of gold mining in Alabama. Peggy Jackson Walls earned her bachelors degree in secondary education at Auburn University in Montgomery and her masters in liberal arts, with a minor in Southern history, at Auburn University. She has taught at Auburn University and the University of Phoenix online, among others. Walls is co-author of Alexander City: Images of America. Her book
Alabama Gold: A History of the South’s Last Mother Lode was published by Arcadia Publishing and the History Press in
2016. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the presentation.

Sister city[edit]
Sweden Sollefteå, Sweden
Madison officials first explored the possibility of creating a sister city relationship with Sollefteå, Sweden in 1995. Madison County economic development representatives had met with executives representing the Sollefteå-based forestry products company, Haglof, Inc. The latter were investigating opening a plant in Madison. They were interested to learn of local residents of Swedish descent; names such as Lindquist are common in the Greater Madison area.[citation needed]
Talks began, and a January 1997 video conference call between the two cities facilitated the meeting. Five months later, a delegation of over 30 members arrived in Madison to tour the city and to ratify the sister city relationship. During that visit, Haglöf, Inc. opened its new office and the Swedish company Mini Tube also announced plans to locate a facility in Madison.
A 34-member delegation from Madison flew to Sweden in May 1997 for a five-day tour of Sollefteå. They learned about the Swedish city's economic development efforts, cultural facilities, innovations in education, and ability to attract visitors and businesses to the area. The delegation toured industrial sites, such as Haglöf Inc.’s facilities, an energy plant, and a communications company. They also visited a forestry school and environmental center.
The Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce South Central U.S. was founded in 1997 as a result of this trade relationship. It serves Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Tennessee.

When Georgia Howled: Sherman on the March
FOR 37 WEEKS IN 1864, GENERAL WILLIAM T. SHERMAN MADE GEORGIA HIS BATTLEGROUND. Georgia Public Broadcasting and the Atlanta History Center have partnered to produce the gripping new documentary “When Georgia Howled: Sherman on the March,” premiering Thursday, September 10 at 8 p.m. on GPB Television. The program is the companion documentary to their Emmy-winning collaboration 37 Weeks: Sherman on the March,” a series of 90-second segments that premiered in April 2014 and commemorated the 150th anniversary of Sherman’s 1864 march into Georgia. IT WAS 37 WEEKS THAT WOULD DETERMINE THE FATE OF A NATION.
Deep South Reaches Six Months
ATLANTA (AP) — Six months into a deepening drought, the weather is killing crops, threatening cattle and sinking lakes to their lowest levels in years across much of the South. The very worst conditions — what forecasters call exceptional drought — are in the mountains of northeast Alabama and northwest Georgia, a region known for its thick green forests, waterfalls and red clay soil. Here at my farm, April 15 was when the rain cut off, said David Bailey, who had to sell half his cattle, more than 100 animals, for lack of hay in Alabama's scorched northeast corner.

Camping at Stephen C Foster State Park/ Okefenokee Swamp
In this video we stayed at Stephen C. Foster State Park in the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia. We went on a tour of the swamp and would definitely recommend the tour. It's a calm, low speed tour that goes back somewhat deep into the swamp. The park is so dark at night you can see more stars than you realize are up there! Along with the weird, green, dripping light. :) Thanks for watching and, as always, we'll take any tips or criticism!

320+- Acre Cattle Farm near Carrollton, Georgia For Sale
Located in Carroll County, the largest cattle-producing county in Georgia, this property is ideal for the serious-minded cattleman. The executive home is set on a spring-fed bass lake and is surrounded by large hardwoods. The pastures are all improved, with several in hybrid Bermuda grasses as well as cool season perennials like Fescue. There is a field of Tifton-85 with a proven record of producing horse-quality hay. The farm is completely fenced, and divided into controlled-grazing pastures. All of the pastures connect to central lanes that easily bring the cattle to the sorting pens and working facilities near the center of the farm. Water is ran to the pastures, and several of the pastures have stock watering ponds. There is a cattle working barn with horse stalls, a round pen, iron-pipe constructed working and sorting pens, load-out chute for ground load trailers and semi-truck trailers, a shop building and large equipment/hay shed. Padgett Farms is located in a rural portion of Carroll County Georgia on State Route 5, in the community of Tyus. US 27 is less than 5 minutes away, and I-20 is about 20 minutes away. Carrollton is 12 minutes away and Metro Atlanta is about 45 minutes, as well as Newnan and Peachtree City. There are several easily accessible markets for cattle, and the bull sales market in this area is strong. The well-built and appointed home is perfect for living and entertaining. It is set near the center of the farm, and is even buffered from the cattle operation by hardwoods and the lake. The lake is 7+ acres of water that is managed for Bass. The home overlooks the lake. The master suite is on the main level, along with an open living/kitchen/dining area and a large porch overlooking the lake. The kitchen features all the modern amenities that the serious cook would want. The upper level contains bedrooms for guests and/or children. There's a daylight basement with office and mother-in-law suite. The home also features an in ground salt water pool. The land has frontage on three roads, and great internal access roads. Getting around on this farm is easy. It has been designed as a progressive cattle operation, and has years of life left in the infrastructure. There is an on-going cattle operation in place, but the farm can be made ready for it's new owners and their cattle in a very reasonable time period. Opportunities to buy a farm this progressive are few and far between. Take Advantage!
