The Role of the Chiropractic Profession in Fall Prevention
Slide deck and supplemental handout available for Loop members (register free):
Meeting Description:
Presented by the Fall Prevention Community of Practice (
One-third of independently living Canadians over 65 will fall at least once in a year, with serious injury occurring in 25 per cent of falls leading to hospitalization, surgery and even death. Many more unreported incidences result in musculoskeletal injuries such as low back and neck pain.
As front-line healthcare providers who see the elderly patient demographic daily, Doctors of Chiropractic are ideally suited to address fall risk through public education, risk assessment and prevention among patients.
Presenter Information:
Dr. Neil Patrick graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto in 2004, and has been in private practice in Creemore and Collingwood Ontario since 2005. As a Doctor of Chiropractic, he is well trained as a primary contact provider to assess, diagnose, and treat a variety of musculoskeletal (MSK) issues using gentle hands-on treatments. He sees a varied patient base, which includes a high proportion of elderly, many of whom live active retirements in the Southern Georgian Bay area. He lives on top of the Niagara Escarpment just outside of Collingwood with his wife, four year old son, and infant daughter.
