*TIPS*
*** ABOUT TICKETS ***
- get your tickets ahead of time
-------- no tickets are sold at the museum
-------- you MUST buy your ticket AHEAD of your visit
-------- get tickets from Lawson or JBT group overseas
* *
-------- FOR JBT Group: Tickets go on sale from the first of each month for the following four months - for example, tickets for June 1 through September 30 go on sale on June 1. Tickets are good only for the specified day of entry.
-------- FOR LAWSON: Tickets go on sale from the tenth of each month for the following month - for example, tickets for July 1 through July 31 go on sale on June 10. Tickets are good only for the specified date and time of entry.
-------- re-sale sites are another option but these are typically more expensive and there is a risk your ticket will not be accepted. You would essentially be paying someone in Japan to go to Lawson to get your ticket for you but remember that the name on the ticket MUST match the ticket holder on the day of your visit. If you risk this then ensure they put YOUR NAME & information like passport number on the ticket. I recommend not risking this and just going via Lawson or JBT Group.
-------- here are some websites with more information about getting your tickets:
----
---- Canada =
---- US =
---- UK =
---- see the first link - official Studio Ghibli page - for all other regions
---- Lawson -
*** ABOUT ID ***
- bring your passport along
-------- they may check to confirm the ID on the tickets & you don't want to be turned away because you can't prove the ticket is yours
*** ABOUT GETTING THERE ***
- walk or take the bus
-------- it's about a 15 minute walk from Mitaka station or you can take the bus

Child 12yo and Under: 110yen - one-way, 160yen - round-trip

Inside The Studio Ghibli Museum + Tokyo Cat Cafe! | Solo Travel Japan Vlog
Even though you may not be allowed to film or take photos inside the Studio Ghibli Museum, I found an a-okay way to still share with you a little of what's inside of this notoriously-hard-to-get-tickets-to museum - watch for the reveal!
What I will say now, is that if you're a fan of Studio Ghibli, this Tokyo-based museum NEEDS to be on your travel itinerary (just make sure you buy your tickets well in advance - like MONTHS in advance!). You can watch an exclusive museum-only short film in their cinema, wander through room replicas of Hayao Miyazaki and his team's animation studios, and even see a lifesize Cat Bus and eat Ghibli-themed meals in their cafe!
If that wasn't cute enough, I also visited an adorable cat cafe in the nearby neighbourhood of Kichijoji - it is seriously a super kawaii way to spend an afternoon!
Let me know what your favourite Studio Ghibli film is in the comments! Mine is Spirited Away, but I also love Howl's Moving Castle and My Neighbour Totoro ????

Studio Ghibli Museum Tour Review | Japan Travel Guide
Our Studio Ghibli Museum Tour Review in Mitaka. In short it was an amazing experience. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to record any video or take photos inside the actual museum even though I snuck a stealthy photo of the Cat Bus. Nevertheless we provide a detailed synopsis of our experience. The museum really detailed the film making process of Studio Ghibli and would be enjoyable by both fans and non-fans of the Studio. Lovers of art and film in general will appreciate the behind the scenes look at the amount of detail and artistry put into every frame of the Studio Ghibli films. Truly a worth while experience.
Feel free to drop any questions you may have about this experience in the COMMENTS below.

Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo
Hello everybody and welcome to another MyAnimeSamurai video,
Today we will review Ghibli's museum in Mitaka. Probably one of the most interesting anime and animation related locations in Tokyo, if not the most.
But first things first. This is what you should know before you plan visiting it:
You should buy the entrance tickets in advance, yes, in advance because you cannot buy them at the museum. And due to the limited number of visitors allowed each day, tickets get sold out vequickly. Tickets are only valid for the exact day of your visit, keep that in mind.
So where and how do you buy them? Good question, because the answer depends on what country you are in at the time of buying.
Lets visit the official webpage of the Museum so that we can understand better.
Lets click on “Tickets”. The explanation on the site is very clear. Basically if you are not in Japan you should by the entrance ticket through one of the official and authorized travel agencies that work with the Museum. So click on your region, on the next page click on your country and then on the agency website link. Look for Ghibli Museum tickets and buy them online. Once your purchase is done the agency should send you the entrance tickets through currier to your home.
I bought my tickets when I was at my home country so I made sure tickets were not sold out during my visit. If you decide to buy the tickets while you are in Japan, you can do it at Lawson shops. But as I said, it would be sad they are sold out during your visiting days, so better buy them in advance.
It is imperative that you bring your passport and all the documents the agency gives you, including the entrance ticket, when you visit the Museum. Otherwise, they will not let you in.
Now, how do you get there? The Museum is around 30 minutes far from the center, so I recommend you take the JR Chuo Line from Shinjiku station to Mitaka station. Notice that you might have to change trains at some point, so make sure you double check your route in advance to prevent getting lost.
Once at Mitaka station take South Exit and walk along the Tamagawa Josui approximately 15 minutes to the Museum. But I think it is more fun to take the Community Bus that will take you directly to the Museum. Make sure you buy the bus ticket at the vending machine by the bus stop. There is one bus almost every 10 minutes.
At the Museum website you can download a friendly map with indications on how to get there in case you need extra directions.
The Museum is located in a very nice park sorronded by nature. But we will talk about that later on.
After you present your documentation at the entrance you will by given 3 frames from a Ghibli movie. These are mine. Arent they cool?
It is not allowed to take photos or make videos inside the Museum, because it would break the magic of the place if everybody would know in advance what they would see. That is the policy of the Museum. After visiting the place I have to admit I completely understand and agree. The interior of the building consists of 3 levels and is pure magic, very cozy, you really feel like being inside a Ghibli's movie universe. It is not a very big place, but is full of details. With several rooms where you will learn about principles of animation and how its magic brings still images to life. Other locations will reproduce some of the most iconic interiors of Ghibli films. There is also a souvenir store full of nice items and a cinema where you can watch exclusive animated shortfilms. There is also a small coffee shop and a restaurant, but they can be full very easily, so keep that in mind if you plan to have a meal there.
Oh, dont forget to stop by the bathrooms. They are genuine and a must vist, trust me on that.
What you see in the exterior are only little glances of what you will find inside.
In 3 or 4 hours you can be done with the place. So in order to enjoy the trip you can also stop by the two small zoos that are in the area. Just 10 minutes by foot away and kids will love it.
Well, that is all for today. I hope you enjoyed the video, if you did, do not forget to like, share and subscribe for there are many more to come!
Sayonara!

Hey everyone! Going to this museum was like a dream come true! I was massively sad in the face that I could not film inside, I think they did that so you 'live in the moment' and really enjoy it. And to be honest, the scope of this place could never be captured on camera, it is so dense with imagery, drawings and experiences. YOU NEED TO GO! lol!
You need to book a ticket at least 2 months in advance if you want to go! They have a limited capacity in the museum each day, so it does not get crowded. To get there, simply catch a train to Mitaka, and from there follow the signs! You can get a bus from Mitaka station to Ghibli if you want, but it is a very quick walk. We just got a bus back instead.

★ A bit about me! ★
I’m an Australian currently living in Japan, and loving it! My channel has loads of DIY videos relating to acne and acne scarring, because that is something I have suffered with for many years (and continue to suffer with). I decided to turn my negatives into positives, and share what I’d learned about this skin condition with all of you. So if you’re new to my channel and wondering why there’s so many videos about skin care, that’s why!
These days however, my focus has changed. I was accepted to the JET Programme in 2014, and my new life chapter began! I’m currently living in a semi-rural prefecture, as an ALT at 3 senior high schools. I drive a lot, go out a lot, and enjoy living my life in gorgeous Japan. I’m now kind of a J-Vlogger, showing you my everyday life in my weekly vlogs. But I also want to keep the essence of my original channel purpose, too, so that’s why there are additional weekly videos about skin care, beauty and life in Japan. Hope this clears some things up, and gives all you cutie newbies some info about me too! Thanks for tuning in, and please feel free to message me any time on my various social links. Cheers!

Ghibli Museum, Mitaka, Japan
Outside the Ghibli Museum, honoring the art of animation, and founded by genius director Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, :Princess Mononoke). In the video I mistakenly mention the latter as Princess Monoike. The museum is in the suburbs of Tokyo, in Mitaka, a 10-15 minute walk through Inokashira Park from Kichijoji, if you can read the posted maps and not lose your way.

Ghibli Museum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ghibli Museum (三鷹の森ジブリ美術館 Mitaka no Mori Jiburi Bijutsukan, Mitaka Forest Ghibli Museum) is a museum featuring the Japanese anime work of Studio Ghibli, and is located in Inokashira Park in Mitaka, a western suburb of Tokyo, Japan.
The museum is a fine arts museum, but does not take the concept of a usual fine arts museum. With many features that are child-oriented and a sprawling and occasionally mazelike interior, the museum is a playfully created place. Centered around the motto appearing on the museum's website Let's become lost children together (迷子になろうよ、いっしょに Maigo ni narō yo, isshoni), or let's lose our way together as it is translated in the English leaflet. It has no set path or order of viewing. While the museum brochure contains a variety of languages, the signs within the museum are in Japanese only.
Hayao Miyazaki wanted to create a museum that was interesting and relaxing to the soul. His goal was to create a museum that makes you feel more enriched when you leave than when you entered!
Studio Ghibli
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Studio Ghibli, Inc. (株式会社スタジオジブリ Kabushiki-gaisha Sutajio Jiburi) is a Japanese animation film studio based in Koganei, Tokyo, Japan. The studio is best known for its anime feature films. Studio Ghibli began in June 1985 after the success of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind with funding by Tokuma Shoten. The company's logo features the character Totoro (a large forest spirit) from Miyazaki's film My Neighbor Totoro. At one time the studio was based in Kichijōji, Musashino, Tokyo.
Studio Ghibli has produced twenty feature films, beginning with Castle in the Sky in 1986. It was followed by Grave of the Fireflies (1988), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Kiki's Delivery Service (1989), Only Yesterday (1991), Porco Rosso (1992), Pom Poko (1994), Whisper of the Heart (1995), Princess Mononoke (1997), My Neighbors the Yamadas (1999), Spirited Away (2001), The Cat Returns (2002), Howl's Moving Castle (2004), Tales from Earthsea (2006), Ponyo (2008), Arrietty (2010), and From Up on Poppy Hill (2011). Sixteen of the films received both critical and financial success, with the notable exception being Tales from Earthsea, which, in spite of its commercial success, achieved less critical praise than Ghibli's other productions.
The studio has also produced several short films and television commercials, as well as Ocean Waves, a television film. Eight of Studio Ghibli's films are among the 15 highest-grossing anime films made in Japan, with Spirited Away being the highest, grossing over $274 million worldwide.
Many anime features created by Studio Ghibli have won the Animage Anime Grand Prix award and three have won the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year. In 2002, Spirited Away won a Golden Bear and an Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
