Inside Charleston Haunted House Where Chairs Move on Their Own
Charleston, South Carolina, is regarded as one of the most historic cities in America, and paranormal activity has gripped the municipality for centuries. Back in 1991, Inside Edition took a tour of the mansions believed to be haunted by the spirits of their former residents. All over the city, locals have reported various sightings of ghosts, spirits and other strange occurrences.

Caught on Camera: Ghosts of the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point
It’s no secret that Charleston is one of South Carolina’s most haunted cities. The SCETV production team decided to highlight a place with lots of claims of unexplained paranormal phenomena…the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point.
The USS Yorktown has a long history dating back to World War II. The ship was a safe haven for her crew and now is a symbol of freedom and liberty.
Do you believe in ghosts or do you think this is all just hocus-pocus? Let us know via Facebook and Twitter @palmettoscene.
A special thanks to the crew of the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point and USS Yorktown Ghost Tours.

Haunted Jail Tour - Charleston (SC) Old City Jail Sept 2014
This is a video of the Haunted Jail Tour in Charleston, South Carolina. There is a lot of history behind this jail, and about 14,000 people have died in the jail. If you look closely at the video, you can see some white orbs floating around the people from about the 10 minute mark to the end. Not sure if these are glowing dust specs moving very fast in my camera light, or if it could be paranormal activity in the form of ghosts. You be the judge :-).

My Haunted trip to Charleston
I took this photo during a Ghost tour my wife and 6 year old daughter took in Charleston, South Carolina. Pretty creepy. It's been described to me as a Pareidolia. I think it's pretty cool. This image has not been altered at all. I took it with my Blackberry. That should explain the poor quality. I enhanced the last image to show a clearer image. Let me know what you think?

The Ghosts of Gold Hill
Long before gold was discovered in other parts of the country, the small community of Gold Hill in Rowan County was producing gold. The gold mines have long dried up, but other treasures remain. Journey with Carl to this quaint community to discover a fun paranormal adventure.
In 1840, there were nearly thirty taverns and only two churches. The mayor of Charlotte was said to have hoped that his community would one day be as prosperous as Gold Hill.
Although Gold Hill is open throughout the year, each October the community hosts a ghost tour that highlights some of the most popular ghost stories ever told, including a hay ride to the area's haunted places. Along the way, story tellers share the history, the mystery, and folk tales surrounding key haunting spots.
One local tale is that two miners, good friends, were working in a mine together when the younger of the two was accidentally impaled by a falling timber. As he lay dying, he asked his friend to take care of his family, and for the rest of his life the older miner did so. The young miner's son later reported that his deceased father came to his bed every morning and pleaded with him to not work in the mines. The son never did.
On night in 1900 Captain Joseph Newman made multiple entries in his diary about his intent to blow himself up with dynamite, and before dawn he did so. Over fifty years later a group of boys claimed they were chased by body parts near the remains of Joe Newman's cabin.
At the turn of the century, mediums used cards and crystal balls to communicate with the dead. Today, we have modern devices to do so. Mat Owens, paranormal investigator and a co-founder of the Carolina Paranormal Society shared some of his tools with Carl. Mat has investigated Gold Hill about six times and reports that there are areas here that are haunted.
Tony Honeycutt, a paranormal investigator who works with Rowan Investigators of the Paranormal (RIP), has investigated the Girl by the Pond, one of the well known stories of Gold Hill. Elizabeth Boyle was the daughter of one of the managers of the gold mine. She fell in love with a miner named Aaron, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Many believed that another miner named Stan murdered Aaron out of envy and hid his body. Stan was found at the bottom of a mine shaft, having apparently been pushed. While no one knows the truth of what happened, Aaron's body was never found and Elizabeth never married. She was often seen wandering around the pond.
In recent years, people have reported seeing Elizabeth walking along the road near the pond.
The Powder House at Gold Hill is the site of many hauntings. Carl tells us that he had visited this spot several months ago. At that time he saw an orb and felt something brush against his neck. Many others have reported similar experiences.
He returns to the Powder House now with some gin, knowing that miners enjoyed drinking. Assisted by Vivian Hopkins, an author and historian, Carl sets the cup of gin on a rock next to a couple of LED flashlights with the lenses barely loosened. In short order, the flashlights turn on, supposedly by themselves!
A commonly told story tells of several miners who were transporting a box of dynamite down the Randolph Shaft. One of the minors took a pick axe and hit the box, causing the axe to impale his chest.
There might not be any gold left in this quaint little town. But it seems there are plenty of ghosts and a lot of fun stories remaining. Come see for yourself - if you're brave enough!

Circular Congregational Church Graveyard Est. 1681
I discovered this cemetery on a carriage tour while visiting Charleston, SC. It is the oldest graveyard/cemetery I have ever encountered. Most of the headstones were unreadable, however, I do find one from 1737, that is clearly readable! This video is a portion of our Charleston weekend getaway video.
