Navlakha temple - Ghumli, Bhanvad
Navlakha Temple at Ghumli was built by Jethwa rulers in 11th century dedicated to Sun god, Surya and is oldest sun temple of Gujarat. It has the largest base (Uagati) of the temples in Gujarat, measuring 45.72 x 30.48 m. Facing East, it had a beautiful entrance arch or Kirti Toran, that is now lost. The sanctum sanctorum (garbhagriha), covered pradakshina path, large gathering hall and its three shringar chokis are eye catching. On the surrounding walking path we find three directions with balconies. The mandapa has eight-sided pillars for support. In the small niches we find sculptures. The entrances are two storied. At the back wall of the temple we find two huge elephants fighting with their trunks. In Bhadra gavaksha there is the image of Brahma-Savitri, in the west is the Shiva-Parvati, to the north is Lakshmi Narayan.
The Navlakha Temple built at a cost of Nine Lacs hence the name Navlakha. It rivals the Somnath Temple and Modhera Sun Temple in its architect and interiors. The temple is built in Solanki style of architecture and Maru-Gurjara style of architecture have the three entwining tusks of elephants as its trademark and is considered to be high noon of Solanki style of architect.
Outside main temple there is a temple dedicated to Ganesha, popularly known as Ghumali Ganesha Temple. This temple is said to be built in 10th century AD.
The temple was destroyed when Ghumli was sacked by Jadeja Jam Barmaniyaji attacked Ghumli in 1313 to take revenge of defeat of his father Jadeja Jam Unaji, who had come from Sindh and but was defeated in 1309 by Jethwa ruler Rana Bhanji.

Porbandar: The Pride of Gujarat, on its way to become the Pride of India
Porbandar is universally renowned as the birthplace of the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. It has one of the most hubbing ports and one of the richest cultural life. It has all the natural resources needed to take it on the path to prosperity. But that is not what defines it.
Porbandar has been able to see the development and progress in all the sectors, including education, infrastructure, basic facilities, youth programmes, employment, agriculture and fisheries, because of a firm leadership in the form of its 2-time MLA, Shri ARJUN MODHWADIA.
An ardent worker, Shri Modhwadia has been credited for the approval and execution of numerous small and big projects in the face-lift of Porbandar. He has been a forerunner when it comes to visiting senior leaders and government authorities for any issue in Porbandar. His inclination to travel and connect with people has won him appreciation from even his adversaries.

Ghumli is a village located 45 km from Porbandar, at foothills of Barda, in devabhumi Dwaraka district of Gujarat, India.
Ghumli was the capital of saindhava dynasty which ruled western Saurashtra from middle of eighth century to middle of tenth century.
It was later the capital of Jethwa dynasty of Gujarat.
Ghumli was declared as second Capital by Jethwa dynasty, in 1220 by Rana Shiyaji, who took the title of Rana Of Ghumli and shifted capital from Shrinagar
Ghumli remained their Capital till 1313, when Rana Bhanji Jethwa, was defeated at a war, he fled Ghumli & shifted to Ranpur. It is said that Ghumli was destroyed due to curse of a Sati named Son with whom Rana Bhanji Jethwa fell in love.
Jadeja Jam Unaji came from Sindh and attacked Ghumli in 1309 but was defeated later in 1313 his son Barmaniyaji Jadeja attacked and defeated Rana Bhanji Jethwa. On the same night Goddess Ambaji came in his dream and told him that, as she has granted the wish (Asha) of his father to conquer Ghumli, he should make a temple in her name. So Bamaniyaji built the Temple of Ambaji on the hill in the middle of Ghumli and named it as Ashapura Mata Temple. He completely destroyed Ghumli and turned it into ruins.

Porbandar State was a princely state during the British Raj ruled by Jethwa dynasty. It was one of the few princely states with a coastline.
The capital of state was the harbour town of Porbandar.[1] Some other important towns of state were Bhanvad, Chhaya, Ranpar, and Shrinagar. Earlier Shrinagar served as the capital of Jethwas, then Ghumli served as the capital, but was lost to the Jadejas, however, architectural heritage built by them still stands at Ghumli.[2] During the British Raj, the state covered[3] an area of 1,663 square kilometres (642 sq mi), encompassing 106 villages and a population, in 1921, of over 100,000 people. It enjoyed a revenue of Rs. 21,00,000/-.
HistoryEdit
In 1193 Porbandar State was founded by an ancestral ruler expelled from Morvi State. In 1307 the state was renamed 'Ranpur' and in 1574 it was renamed 'Chhaya'. Finally in 1785 the state reverted to the name Porbandar. On 5 December 1809 it became a British protectorate and between 1886 and 15 September 1900 the state was administered by the Bombay Presidency. It was part of the Kathiawar Agency[4] from 1819 to 1922.[5]
In 1888, during the reign of Vikramatji Khimojiraj, the State started metre-gauge railway called Porbandar State Railway, which after independence was merged in to Saurashtra Railway.[6]
Upon the Independence of India in 1947, the state acceded unto the dominion of India. It was merged with the 'United State of Kathiawar', effective from 15 February 1948 and eventually came to form part of the present-day state of Gujarat.[1]
The grandfather of Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of Indian independence movement, Uttamchand Gandhi and later his father – Karamchand Gandhi and uncle – Tulsidas Gandhi, served as Dewan to Rana of Porbandar state.[7][8]

Porbandar pronunciation (help·info) is a coastal city in the Indian state of Gujarat, perhaps best known for being the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sudama (friend of Lord Krishna). It is the administrative center of Porbandar District.
History
Harappan settlement (1600-1400 BCE)
Onshore explorations in and around Porbandar brought to light, for the first time, the remains of a late Harappan settlement dating back to the 16th - 14th century BCE, which is similar to that from Bet Dwarka. There is evidence to suggest that the Harappan legacy of maritime activity continued till the late Harappan period on the Saurashtra coast. The discovery of ancient jetties along the Porbandar creek signifies the importance of Porbandar as an active centre of maritime activities in the past.
Past Harappan age and classical Vedic ages, Indian mythology says it is the birthplace of Sudama (friend of Lord Krishna in Dwaparyug): hence, it is referred to as Sudaamapuri or Sudamapuri.
