Largest Temple in Thailand - Temple in Nakhon Si Thammarat
Bringing you the largest temple in Thailand! Wat Phra Mahathat Vihan (Thai วัดพระมหาธาตุวรมหาวิหาร) is the most important temple of Nakhon Si Thammarat and southern Thailand. It was constructed at the time of the founding of the town, and contains a tooth relic of Buddha.
Shadow Puppet Museum in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand
It’s one of the oldest and most interesting art forms in the Thai culture: nang thalung, or in English, shadow puppetry. The best place to learn about it is in southern Thailand in Nakhon Si Thammarat at the Suchart Subsin Shadow Puppet House.
The museum was founded by Suchart Subsin. He is one of Thailand’s most skillful puppet-makers and performers, and has even performed puppet shows for the King. The Shadow Puppet House is now run by the next generation of his family. It’s an award-winning attraction that offers people the chance to learn about the history of shadow puppets, see how they’re made and even take in a show.
In the museum, there are shadow puppets on display from over the century. These characters from Thai dramas have a variety of forms form angels to ghosts, demons and damsels in distress. Guests can also compare Thai shadow puppets with those from other cultures, such as India, Turkey and Indonesia. There is also a display of the musical instruments used in shadow puppet plays.
Watching a show here at Suchart Subsin’s house is a fantastic way to learn about Thai culture and the local art of storytelling. Although it is in Thai, it’s a comedic performance that transcends language. The puppets are colorful, funny and the way the master moves them is incredibly skillful. The live music adds another element to the performance. Be prepared to be amazed at the suspense and flow of the story!
Last but not least, watching the process of making shadow puppets completes the experience. The puppets are made from cowhide, and one puppet can take over a month to carve and paint. The preparation behind the performance is truly masterful. You can also buy your own puppet or artwork here as a take-home treasure.
The Shadow Puppet Museum is located in the city centre at 10/18 Si Thammarat Rd, Soi 3. It is only about a ten-minute walk from the temple Wat Phra Mahathat.

Wat Phra Mahathat Nakhon Sri
Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan is a first-class royal temple with a total area of 39.7 acres and is located on the main sand bar of Nakorn Si Thammarat, the largest province in Southern, Thailand.
Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, as known as Wat Phra That, is the great noble temple for people and Buddhists in Nakorn Si Thammarat. Moreover, the main stupa of the temple, called Phra Borommathat Chedi, is the well-known symbol of Nakorn Si Thammarat province since it is where the Buddha’s Relics are kept, and thereby it becomes a sacred place for the Buddhists. Nowadays, the Department of Fine Arts has announced the registration of Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan as an archaeological site. It is regarded as one of the most important sacred places in the south of Thailand.
Phra Borommathat Chedi, regarded as the most important part of the temple, is the gigantic-bell-shaped stupa which the top of the stupa is entirely covered with pure gold. The present stupa is architecture in Lanna style. It is believed that the Phra That are made of the gold ornaments and many valuable things including the tip of the stupa. These valuable things were brought by the Buddhists to the Lord Buddha so they can go to nirvana. The fame and sacredness of Phra Borommathat Chedi has attracted people from all direction to pay homage and to wish for blessing. Another traditional ceremony which is done together with worshipping is to carry the religious cloth to wrap around the stupa. According to legend, people who carry the cloth to the stupa will have their wishes fulfilled. Therefore, Hae Pha Khuen That Festival is regarded as a great annual merit-making festival that is held twice a year during Makha Bucha Day and Visakha Bucha Day.
The other miracle of Phra Borommathat Chedi is that it has no shadow. No matter which directions the sunlight reflects, it never casts the shadow on the floor. There is still no answer for this incredible phenomenon, making the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) ranks the amazing stupa as one of the Unseen Thailand site.
Apart from Phra Borommathat Chedi, a number of small stupas surrounded also seem strange for visitors. These 149 stupas, called Chedi Boriwan are continuously built by the descendants in order to contain the relics of their dead family members. They wish their family members will reborn as Buddhists in the next lives.
Moreover, there is a museum located inside Wat Phra That Mahavorawihan which exhibit valuable and ancient things. As the sacred site, people who visited the sacred place have performed their merit-making by donating their valuable objects, called Khuen That, to the stupa and to the temple which symbolizes the Buddha, the Sangha and the Dhamma. Consequently, the museum of the temple was built in 1937 to serve and display the collections. The museum opens every day for the visitors.

Ancient city of Ayutthaya historical park in Thailand
Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya is an ancient capital and modern city in the Central Plains of Thailand, 85 km north of Bangkok. Ayutthaya was one of Southeast Asia's most prosperous cities in the 17th Century and beyond. Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Historical Park, a vast stretch of historical site in the heart of Ayutthaya city, is now an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There were three palaces in Ayutthaya: Grand Palace, Chantharakasem Palace (the Front Palace) and Wang Lang (the Rear Palace). The largest temple in Ayutthaya, known for its distinctive row of restored chedis is Wat Phra Si Sanphet.
An impressive building that houses a large bronze cast Buddha image is the temple of Viharn Phra Mongkol Bopit. Southwest off the island is Wat Chaiwatthanaram, the temple that graces the official tourist pamphlet for Ayutthaya. Many intact pagodas surround a central chedi. A nice view of the city can be had from the top. Other important buildings include Wat Mahathat, Wat Ratchaburana, Wat Yanasen, Wat Phra Ram, and Wat Thammikarat.

Nakhon Pathom must see place
This is a Nakhon Pathom must see place. 1 of the biggest stupas in the world, Phra Pathommachedi or Phra Pathom Chedi, พระปฐมเจดีย์, is a simply stunning stupa located right in the center of the city. A very royal place in town, indeed. If you're traveling in the city, visiting the stupa as well as those beautiful temples around is mandatory. It really is majestic. Even though Nakhon Pathom has lots of other amazing places to see, Phra Pathom Chedi should be on the top of your list, trust me on this one.
