Camiguin Island CLAM SANCTUARY | Philippines Travel Vlog 2018
In this Philippines travel vlog, we visit Camiguin Island in Northern Mindanao. I've been wanting to visit ever since some filipino subscribers told me about the sunken cemetery on the island. My expat friend Kyle Jennermann (Becoming Filipino), and his buddy Kumar connected me with Aitz, a local who own a place on the island called Hayahay Cafe.
In this travel video, we visit the Kibila Giant Clams Sanctuary, and another smaller coral and clam sanctuary. One day was spent free diving, and the other SCUBA diving.
I learned a lot about giant clams that day. There are 9 species in the world, 6 of which can be found in the Philippines. The are much like coral; a symbiotic relationship between an animal and a plant, where each feeds the other. Giant clams are colourful because of the algae that live inside their mantle. This algae uses photosynthesis to create food from the sun. The clam sucks in water and filters out the plankton. Teamwork for the win.
This also means, like coral, giant clams can bleach. When the algae living inside the clams skin (or mantle) doesn't like the water conditions, it leaves. Since this algae gives coral and clams their colour, the animal turns white. This does not mean it's dead, but it does mean that it's in trouble.

Giant Clam Sanctuary Camiguin Island Philippines Fun
We visited the Giant Clam Sanctuary, located halfway between Guinsiliban and Benoni off the main highway on Camiguin Island Philippines. The road to the sanctuary is about 1 kilometer long, and it's a bit rough and steep in some locations. It's worth a visit, though. There are some tour vans that go there.

Camiguin Clam Sanctuary
Imagine a place where the sky and sea meet.
Imagine a world underneath that place teeming with life full of beauty and grace.
Come and visit Camiguin's Clam Sanctuary, located in the enchanting shores of Kaliba Beach in Cantaan town. You can only access the island by snorkelling your way from the boat that can be provided by Mantangale Dive Resort.
Brightly coloured underwater life will greet you upon entering the beach with a sea temperature just right for a perfect swim across the shore. Local volunteers who have dedicated their whole lives to preserving this island of a paradise will encourage you to do the same. Their genuine care shown through their intensive knowledge of the clams will entertain you as they give a tour of the underwater farm where 6 out of 9 clam species in the world are found.
At the end of the day, you will be able to understand how the dynamics of each species brings beauty to the sea as these clams help in keeping the waters clean. You can then appreciate the vital role of the Clam Sanctuary in providing a safe environment for the creatures that are essential in the preservation of nature.
This is what the ICC team experienced during a recent visit to this island.

Camiguin Island is the 2nd smallest province in the Philippines. They are famous on there Sweet LANZONES, but unfortunately we didn't have a chance to try it.
This video features some of the best tourist spots to visit in the island, that is the Katibawasan Falls, Mantigue Island and Giant Clam sunctuary. On this video I also have tips and information on how to get there from Bohol.
Our 3 days trip in Camiguin is divided to two part videos, coz there is a lot of beautiful places that the island has to offer, despite being the 2nd smallest island province in the Philippines.
Hope you enjoy this video and if you find it entertaining don't forget to LIKE, SHARE, AND SUBSCRIBE.

UPSET in the PHILIPPINES (Giant Clams and Old Volcano, Camiguin)
22/4/19 - Camiguin, Philippines - the Camiguin Giant Clam Sanctuary was a fantastic place to spend some time on the island and Hannah and I had a blast learning about these incredible creatures and snorkelling with them! Our original plan was to go to Mantigue Island following it but we unfortunately got to the port a little too late and so instead we visited the Old Volcano and Stations of the Cross. A beautiful view, but unfortunately something very bad happened…
Thank you so much for watching and please let me know what you thought of this vlog in the comments down below!
