Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve 2018 - A Family Day Out in Lincolnshire
Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve 07.06.2018 - A Day Out in Lincolnshire - south of Skegness. Spot the wildlife in the long grass, in the tree, on the river bank and in the water in this video. The new spectacular Visitor Centre, it is open from 10am 4pm. Volunteers Oscar & Keith welcomed us and updated us on the latest wildlife spotted. This Centre has been built on a raised platform with wheelchair access, due to the flood. We enjoyed good food in the busy restaurant and the views from the roof top. We enjoyed the peaceful walk along the beach and the very old sand dunes that have developed a thick scrub of sea buckthorn, elder, privet and hawthorn.
If you enjoyed this video it would be nice if you subscribe & share. No Fee. Thank you.

Brancaster is a village and civil parish on the north coast of the English county of Norfolk. The civil parish of Brancaster comprises Brancaster itself, together with Brancaster Staithe and Burnham Deepdale. The three villages form a more or less continuous settlement along the A149 at the edge of the Brancaster Manor marshland and the Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve. The villages are located about 3 miles (5 km) west of Burnham Market, 22 miles (35 km) north of the town of King's Lynn and 31 miles (50 km) north-west of the city of Norwich.
The civil parish has an area of 8.27 square miles (21.43 km2) and in the 2011 census had a population of 797 in 406 households. For the purposes of local government, the parish falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. Janet Lake, the clerk to Brancaster Parish Council, has recently reached 50 years of service in the post. St Mary's church at Burnham Deepdale is one of 124 existing round-tower churches in Norfolk; it also has a carved Norman font.
A petrified forest can be seen on the foreshore near Brancaster at low tide. It is about three-quarters of a mile west of the golf clubhouse and consists of material similar to compacted peat or brown coal (lignite). Remains also wash ashore after storms and can be found along the high tide line. The material resembles black rubber but can be broken easily to reveal plant remains inside.
There was a Roman fort and settlement here named Branodunum to the east of the modern village. The Saxon Shore fort (and the related civilian settlement, much of which was destroyed during the construction of a locally opposed housing development in the 1970s) is visible only as grass-covered mounds and remains mainly unexcavated.
The wreck that can be seen off the harbour is the 1021grt coaster SS Vina which was used for target practice by the RAF before accidentally sinking in 1944. The Vina was built at Leith by Ramage & Ferguson in 1894 and was registered at Grangemouth. She was a coast-hugging general cargo ship which would have worked the crossings between the east coast of England and through to the Baltic states.

Gibraltor Point National Nature Reserve
This is a short film about one of my favourite places, Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve. It's located on the Lincolnshire coast, just north of The Wash and consists of saltmarsh, dunes and beach. All of which are unspoilt. There are a number of lagoons and ponds just inland from the beach that attract numerous bird species and birdwatchers. The reserve interests me the most in Winter when it's at it's most wild. I filmed this at the beginning of December and was lucky enough to catch some nice light but could have flown a kite in the winds.
It's not a beautiful place, nor is it particularly dramatic but there's a charm to the simple landscape that I love.

Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve (03-08-14)
Yes, it's shit quality and and youtube have skilfully removed all traces of clarity, changed the colour and has even given the big bird an extra pair of wings! Well done YouTube :O(
This was a family trip to the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve, south of Skegness, on which my Degen DE1103 came along as I was hoping to hear some continental DX. We didn't walk to the Point itself as it was too far for the kids to walk. That will have to wait until next time.
It's a 'warts and all' video as I couldn't be bothered to do any serious editing, though there were a couple of bits I slowed down in the hope of identifying some of the wildlife.....
If anybody can tell me what the sea creature with the fin is at 6:20 and identify the big bird at 6:59 I would be very grateful.
Oh yes, there's a bit of radio in here too! :O) Conditions are less than flat, despite high pressure and temperatures around 25-26 degrees C. As on my previous visit, continental reception was much better down by the water's edge, as if I had tapped into some kind of low-level duct. Reception on the nearby dunes was actually worse.
