Trip to Gibraltar to Visit the Rock Apes
While on PPL Training at Fly-In-Spain based at Jerez International Airport a few of us thought we would pop down to Gibraltar for a day out.
Gibraltar is an English colony which uses Gibraltan Pounds and the Euro. It has all the English style foods and pubs in the main square such as Fish & Chips. It is a nice break from the very Spanish town of Jerez which is an unspoilt gem of Spanish Culture.
You have to cross the runway to enter Gibraltar. The runway is a Class C runway as it has a prevalence to high winds.
I will be landing a PA28 at this airfield later in the year.
The Rock as it is known is how to over 300mischievous Barbary macaque. They are scattered over the rock.
The port is home to the Royal Navy and when we were there; there was two submarines in the port.
The Royal Anglians have the Freedom on the City.

It is three hundred years since Spain ceded the rule of Gibraltar to Britain following the War of the Spanish Succession. According to legend, British rule will last as long as there are monkeys on Gibraltar and for now, it is the only place in Europe where wild monkeys roam.

Wild monkeys in Gibraltar
Gibraltar is a British territory at the southern tip of Spain, and the only place in Europe where you can find wild monkeys. Conservationists are trying to keep the peace between Gibraltar's endangered monkeys and their neighbors. Jonathan Vigliotti has more.

The Rock of Gibraltar and the monkeys
Tour to Gribraltar crossing the 1777m runway of Gibraltar Airport, which is listed as one of the most dangerous Airports in the World. Heading on 4-lane Winston Churchill Road to the Mosque on the southern tip of the peninsula to also see the lighthouse. Only 5 more minutes to drive until you park your car and keep on walking on the Rock of Gibraltar (Peñón de Gibraltar, sometimes called by its original Latin name, Calpe) It is 426 m (1,398 ft) high. The Rock is Crown property of the United Kingdom, and borders Spain. Most of the Rock's upper area is covered by a nature reserve, which is home to around 300 Barbary macaques. These macaques, as well as a labyrinthine network of tunnels, attract a large number of tourists each year.
