Today we were at Gibraltar and we had a private tour of the famous Gibraltar rock and we held cute monkeys.

Here we have a quick tour of my room plus a rant about it at the same time, while I stayed at the Rock Hotel in Gibraltar.

Don't get me wrong, I really like this hotel as it is an iconic landmark and feels like a little piece of England. It has a lovely pool and is close to the Botanic Gardens (also known as La Alameda Gardens) and has envious views across the Straits. That said, there are a number of things I found that need addressing - some defy logic and some, I admit, are down to me being picky. Have a look at this video and let me know if you have experienced anything odd as I'd be interested to know.

However much I moan in this video, I would still return to this hotel as there is something that will always get me coming back. I can't describe it, but there is a definite feeling of being in a comfort zone in Gibraltar - for me anyway. I've put some website links at the top of this section that are well worth checking out, including the official Rock Hotel website. Please don't let this room tour and rant put you off as there are many positives at the Rock Hotel; I've just highlighted some negatives, that's all. To whet your appetite, here is some information about the famous Rock Hotel:

The Rock Hotel was built by John Chrichton-Stuart, the Marquis of Bute in 1932 and it was acquired by its present owners, The Bland Group in 1959. Like the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, The Rock has been a magnet for royalty and the rich and famous. As well as Sir Winston Churchill, Errol Flynn, Alec Guinness and Sean Connery, John Lennon and Yoko Ono stayed at the hotel and exchanged their wedding vows in one of its private rooms. The history of The Rock Hotel is part of the history of Gibraltar itself.

More recently the Rock Hotel has been the venue for BBC’s ‘New Tricks’ which was shot on the property while the cast stayed in the hotel which remains the preferred choice for visiting celebrities and dignitaries today. These famous visitors are immortalised at the hotel in its ‘Hall of Fame’ gallery.

Today the hotel’s 1930’s origins are evident in the subtle colours and timeless décor which combines elements of Gibraltar’s colonial heritage with more contemporary touches.

Come and stay at this hotel, sit on your balcony or terrace, and take in the view (and the odd monkey or two). Then, go and have some afternoon tea. You never know, you may see me there too! Enjoy...

The Bocaue Youth Concert Band ( BYCB '16 ) takes the challenges of 2017 as they started the year with youthful music at Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium last January 8, 2017.
The Bocaue Youth Concert Band ’16, founded two years ago, is composed of more than 50 young student musicians from Bocaue, Bulacan and nearby towns of Marilao, Balagtas and Sta.
Maria and bonded themselves under the tutelage of Sir Al Manuel the band music director and his son Allan Angelo Manuel, the band conductor, both alumni of UST Conservatory of Music.
The BYCB ’16 is composed mainly of Elementary, Junior and Senior High School and College students who are presently enrolled in various public and private schools in the vicinity. They
started their musical training at Sir Al’s Music and Arts Studio to learn various musical instruments as they underwent regular training under professional musicians and individual
instructors. With potentials being seen among members, they had their first public appearance in a New Year Concert held last December, 2015 followed by series of religious musical
engagements in the parish during various town festivities. The young band had its first active participation in serious music during the Bocaue town fiesta as they joined the parade of bands
and a great performance during the Serenata ng Banda held in honor of the town’s patron saint in July of 2016.
With able support from their parents, teachers and friends, the band grew in numbers and committed themselves to make a name of their own in the field of band music.
The band had their Launching Concert and Induction Ceremonies last December 3, 2016 witnessed by hundreds of people who filled the Church of St. Martin of Tours in Bocaue,
Bulacan. No other than Colonel Xavier Celestial, PSG Band Commanding Officer and
PHILBANDA President witnessed the said event and led the band induction ceremonies. Prior and after to the said event, the band appeared in series of musical performances in various
schools, churches and Christmas concerts and festivities where they gained valuable musical exposure and experience in preparation for the much awaited Concert at the Park this 2017.
Aside from the said line-up of activities, the band is actively participating in Liturgical and
Devotional Celebrations of the parish of St. Martin of Tours in Bocaue, Manila and nearby parishes.
The Bocaue Youth Concert Band ’16, maybe considered the newest organized band in the land today. Young as they are, they are determine to continue their service to their local
community as they represent the youthful sector. With guidance from their teachers and mentors,
the dream of making it in the big stage in the future is not too far. Their concert appearance in this famous Rizal Park Open-air Auditorium is just the beginning of a series of musical
memories which the kids which cherish as they embark in the bigger musical challenges ahead of them in the nearest future.

We visit the Marina with a back drop of luxury apartments and yachts. Check out the history and architecture in the main city. Spend the night at the famous Rock Hotel, frequented by Royalty, politicians and famous faces. Hop on a bus to Europa point to catch a glimpse of North Africa. Take the 6 minute ride up to the top of the Rock, to be welcomed by the barbary macaque monkeys, before climbing down inside St Michael's Cave for eerie views of the stunning stalagmites. Finally we end our day walking over the 71 m high suspension bridge with great views of Gibraltar Bay.

Gibraltar, the Rock with fantastic views, caves, monkeys, tax free alcohol, cigarettes and fuel. Don´t forget your passport when you cross the border from Spain to UK!!! You enter Gibraltar by crossing the runway of the airport.

The astonishing huge chunk of limestone (5km long up to 1.6km wide and 426m high) rising up from the Mediterranean was one of the mythic Pillars of Hercules. The eastern side is made up of sheer cliffs with sandy beaches forming the perimeter. The western slopes are gentler and much of the lower half is the city, with the upper parts there is a large nature reserve.

Gibraltar has been a British colony since 1704 with an engaging mix of British Mediterranean the buildings, culture, style and especially the commerce are British. Legend has it that Britain will retain sovereignty of the rock as long as the famous wild Barbary apes remain.

The Upper Rock reached by either cable car, minibus (tours) or private car there are breathtaking views down to the town, beaches, the Stait of Gibraltar, Bahia de Algeciras and if the weather is clear you can Morocco in detail.

Points of interest, along with the apes, there are dolphins and whales in the bay. Great Siege Tunnels, The Morrish Castle, Military Heritage Centre, St Michael's Cave. Walk through the Main Street, great for shopping if you are missing a little bit of England, with the normal high street stores mixed in with tax free shops. Have lunch or just grab a coffee at the marina (Ocean Village).

Gibraltar is located at the entrance of the Mediterranean, connected to Spain via La Linea. After passing through immigration and customs, the road crosses the runway of Gibraltar airport.
