Hardcastle Crags.(Near Hebden Bridge,West Yorkshire) UK
Woodland wildlife spectacular, 25 miles of footpath, at its heart Gibson Mill, lots of short and long circular walks.
(Getting there by car), at the end of Midgehole road, one and a half miles north -east of Hebden Bridge, off the A6033 Keighley Road.
Yorkshire Hardcastle Crags
This was a walk full of history and scenic water weirs on route. We even saw inside the Gibson Mill exploring the exhibition displays on Cotton Mills. We started from a small car park on Midgehole Road (Sat Nav HX7 7AA) about 2 miles outside of Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire on the A6033. However, It all got a bit too much for one pet dog at the end.

West Yorkshire Country Walk - Hebden Bridge-Hardcastle Crags-Crimsworth Dean round.
Our video is a guided walk in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. We start with a quick look round Hebden Bridge then on to Hardcastle Crags. Starting our walk from Midgehole car park we walk up Hebden Dale along side Hebden Water stopping to admire the weirs and the newly renovated Gibson Mill. We then head for Hardcastle Crag and Walshaw then over the lower slope of Scackleton Knoll and return down Crimsworth Dean. This an easy to moderate 5 mile walk on good paths through some beautiful woodlands and wonderful views mainly following the Haworth to Hebden Bridge Walk.
Gibson Mill at Hardcastle Crags - Landscape Photography
**SUBSCRIBE to watch future videos **
In this landscape photography video I ventured out to West Yorkshire and visited Gibson Mill at Hardcastle Crags which is a National Trust site. Being the Easter Holidays I left it until late in the afternoon to visit, just in case it was too busy. I was lucky that when I arrived it was nice and quiet.
Being my first time at this location I tried to find compositions that haven't been done before, but sadly I didn't find too many new images due to messy foregrounds. So I settled for the cliche shots with a couple of extra photos.

Saunter. Hardcastle Crags, Hebden Bridge. 1971
SAUNTER. A short cine film I made in 1971 of a walk from Midgehole, Hardcastle Crags, Hebden Bridge, to Widdop Reservoir. The person walking with me was a friend, Brain Waight. The filming was not all done on one day. Included are scenes in the woodland, Gibson Mill, the waterfall and weir near the mill, Blake Dean, The Pack Horse Inn, moors and sheep. Don’t expect a masterpiece but you might get some enjoyment from the film. Music by Chris Zabriskie from You Tube Audio Library.
Nutclough Mill and Hebden Bridge - Part 4
In our exploration of the history of Calrec's Nutclough Mill HQ and the town of Hebden Bridge, we've reached the 1960s.
It was a sad time.
The UK clothing industry had begun to import cheaper textiles from the East. One by one, the mills were shut down. Then they were vandalised and gutted by fire. The rivers were in a bad way, poisoned by years of industrial pollution. People were fleeing South in search of work. The town was in terminal decline.
In the mid-Sixties, a group of residents set to work to help make Hebden Bridge a decent place to live again and to restore some civic pride. They began to restore some of the town's most important historic buildings, clear up the rubbish, and clean the rivers. It was the dawn of a new era in the town's fortunes.

Hebden Bridge Circular Walk March 2016
A Saturday morning walk around Hebden Bridge taking in Heptonstall and Gibson Mill. Apologies about the sound in places, it was extremely windy, I've now bought a mic muff which should help the sound quality next time.
South Pennines, Lancashire
I'v never heard of Hurstwood before visiting the area. It's just on the outskirts of East Burnley in Lancashire. Our route took us through wild moorlands of Worsthorne, passing various features and reservoirs (part of the Pennine Bridleway.). Despite the howling wind I enjoyed the ruggedness of the countryside

Walkey Clogs is proud to keep the old traditional styles and over the years has manufactured many more styles that fit in with today’s markets. Most years Walkley Clogs are seen on the cat walks, and every year work with budding fashion designers who always have their own ideas on clog design. Today Walkley clogs manufactures a wide range of styles of clogs which include wooden sandals and slip-ons and various types of boots and shoes in a good selection of colours. The uppers used are mainly leather but also a non leather clog can be manufactured if required. The company also produces a lovely range of children’s clogs styles and supplies clog dance teams in the UK with dancing clogs. Walkley clogs produces 40 styles plus and offers to make up custom made clogs in any style and any colour..
History of Walkley Clogs
Walkley Clogs is a clog factory where the great British clog is manufactured in its entirety. The company was started by Frank Walkley in 1946. The main styles manufactured at that time were the Safety boot clog, Derby, Gibson and the Bar clog. With slipon styles being produced much later. In 1978 Frank Walkley bought out the famous Maude clog sole works in Hebden Bridge, a company that at its hey day had over 100 employees that turned nothing but clog soles! Walkey Clogs still uses the old machines for turning the wooden clog soles, and manufacturing the irons. The clog making skills used are those skills that have been passed down from generations of Walkley Clogs clog makers. Many of our older clog customers will remember Gordon and Nelson real lovely characters, and John who only recently retired a few years ago.. and not forgetting Arthur who up to 86 years of age still worked making the Walkley clogs
Urban Exploring Abandoned Clog Factory Hebden Bridge Halifax Part 1
Walkley clogs was founded in 1946 by Frank Walkley. The Factory initially produced four different styles of clog design, these where the Derby, Gibson, Bar and Safety Boot clogs, slip on clogs where introduced at a much later date. In 1978 Mr Walkley bought out the Maude clog sole works in Hebden Bridge, a company that at its hey day had over 100 employees.
Today the company continues arrow-10x10.png to produce clogs in Mytholmroyd, with quite a bit of success too by the looks of things, I don't know who buys clogs these days but somebody clearly does, and good on them too, keeping a British business above water! However production takes place now on the old Maude site rather than the original Walkley Mill premises...
The Walkley Mill site proved to be a big tourist attraction in the Calder Valley during the 1980's however during the 90's interest dipped, then a large fire broke out on site... Walkley's decided to close down the once popular attraction and concentrate solely on their other main factory... The premises where sold and in 2006 a planning application to turn the mill into apartments was passed, however something evidently went wrong as the site is still abandoned in 2018 12 years on!

Walkley clog mill
The building itself has been manufacturing cloggs since 1870, started by James Maude, his sons continued the business on after his death in 1914.
The Walkleys business was started by Frank Walkley in 1946. The main styles manufactured at that time were the Safety boot clog, Derby, Gibson and the Bar clog. With slipon styles being produced much later. In 1978 Frank Walkley bought out the famous Maude clog sole works in Hebden Bridge, a company that at its heyday had over 100 employees that turned nothing but clog soles! Walkey Clogs used the old machines for turning the wooden clog soles, and manufacturing the irons. The clog making skills used are those skills that have been passed down from generations of Walkley Clogs clog makers.
The clog factory was one of the Calder Valley's most popular tourist attractions during the 1980s but began to wind down during the 1990s after a devastating fire, December 1990.
The building has been closed for some time now, with apartment approval pending.

Walk 9, Hardcastle Crags, Hebdon Bridge
The Yorkshire Trekker manages to find a break midweek to stroll along the riverside at Hebdon Bridge, beside Hardcastle Crags. A spur of the moment decision to do the walk which left the trekker quite unprepared. Lots of beautiful scenery and cascading waterfalls feature on this walk. No time for silliness, just a calming and delightful trek to feast your eyes on. This walk was filmed on the 5th February.
