Australian Trains 69 - Hotham Valley Railway Steam Ranger 12/07/2017
A ride on the Hotham Valley Railway steam ranger service.
Steam has returned as summer has gone, and its very wet LOL
this is our first visit tot he steam railway, in Western Australia. Located in Dwellingup, this is one of the services run on the line. They also run a dining service, and a woodland service, and details can be found on their website
There are several loco's parked around the station site, but it is unfortunate that they are not on general display for the public to view whilst waiting for the train, that said, the staff were very nice and did let me get some photo's of the shunting locomotives outside the shed.
The locos on the train were an ex midland railway, English Electric F class loco number F40, and the steam loco was W class W920
The line runs down hill from Dwellingup, but on return, the steam loco has a challenge climbing the 1:30 grade, but does have a little assistance from the F class. Unfortunately 2 coaches were removed from this trip, as the first trip had 5 coaches plus the locos, which would have made them work harder.
all video was done with my iPhone, and trying to keep the water out of it was a challenge.
W903 and S549 to Jarrahdale
Hotham Valley Tourist Railways 4-8-2 W class Marrinup 903 leads Rail Heritage W.A's 4-8-2 S class 549 Greenmount on the climb to Jarrahdale for the annual Log Chop 1998. This run would be the only real work the S class would ever get a chance to have a go at since its restoration and to date.
An HVTR C class is seen burbling by at Mundijong on a somewhat less patronised regular Forest Ranger service to Dwellingup before the double header gets the road for the branch.
Hotham Valley Ex WAGR Pm706 and W908 Gingin Special Tour May 20 1990 at Midland
Filmed at Midland in Western Australia on Sunday 20 May 1990. Hotham Valley 'Outflyer' special to Gingin for the annual 'British Car' day.
Ex WAGR Pm706 'Narrogin' is on its first mainline run since restoration is assisted by Ex WAGR W908 'Dwellingup'.
As it attempts to depart Midland Station there is noticeable 'wheelslip' by Pm706 which is not surprising as they are hauling an amazing 17 coaches.
After a short distance the train come to a stand at signals and then restarts.
UFO Crashes North-West of Gin Gin Queensland, Australia NEWS - JUN 19, 2006
The pub at Gin Gin is usually pretty quiet on a Friday morning.
But today they've been flooded with inquiries from metropolitan news outlets trying to get to the bottom of a meteor mystery reported near the small town west of Bundaberg.
The operators of the Gin Gin Hotel, who report more than 10 media phone calls this morning, say they have no idea what started a fire in bushland about 40km north-west of the town.
At this stage, neither do authorities.
The mystery began unfolding when it was reported emergency crews were rushing to Gin Gin following reports of a suspected plane crash into the side of a mountain.
Police soon confirmed, however, that no planes were missing and it was not a plane crash - but police officers were on their way to investigate a fire.
An unidentified flying object was then reported to be responsible.
A Department of Emergency Services spokeswoman said despite reports to the contrary, emergency crews had never headed to the scene.
Police said officers could not confirm the cause of the fire, but there had been reports something fell from the sky.
AGL Action Rescue Helicopter spokesman Colin Brown confirmed the chopper had been sent out this morning but said investigators had no bloody idea what caused the fire.
Our boys are saying there's a spot fire or two there ... but what started them we can't be sure, he said.
It could be anything - someone may have seen a shooting star and thought it started the fire, but we don't know.
Gin Gin resident Nicky Williams said locals had been talking about the mystery.
But I've only heard because I'm sitting here at the pub, she said.

Meckering is a town 130 km east of Perth, Western Australia along the Great Eastern Highway. Meckering is located within the Shire of Cunderdin.
A railway line was completed in the area in 1895 and Meckering was selected as a station site. The first name chosen for the townsite was Beebering, the Aboriginal name for the hills just north of the town.
The townsite of Beebering was gazetted in 1895.[2] The name of the town was changed to Meckering in 1897 to agree with the station name and the name for the town that was used locally. Meckering is an Aboriginal word thought to mean moon on the water or good hunting.
At 10:59 am on 14 October 1968, a 40-second earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale destroyed the town, and had effect on a considerable area in the south western region of Western Australia.[3] As it was a public holiday, the risk of casualties was reduced. Buildings in the metropolitan area of Perth were damaged as a result of the earthquake, and tremors were felt as far away as Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Esperance, and Albany.[3] The building codes and various structural issues for Western Australia were modified as a result of the earthquake and further development of earthquake engineering.[4] [5] The memory and significance of the event is commemorated by the local and wider community in a number of ways.[6] [7] [8] [9]
A later earthquake at Cadoux in 1979 was on a par with the Meckering event in some people's memories, although less damage occurred in Perth.
Meckering is a main stopping point for freight trucks on the way to the eastern states
Australian trains 63 - Whiteman park tram ride, Perth 06/07/2017
A ride on the tram in Whiteman park, north Perth
Perth Electric Tramway society (PETS) tram number 329, formerly from Melbourne
the tram runs through Whiteman Park, which is also home to a transport museum, car museum, tractor museum, wildlife sanctuary and also a miniature railway
unfortunately the 'historic' miniature railway was running a knockoff Thomas the tank petrol steam engine and we decided we wouldn't bother with that as none of our party was a 6 year old, which was a shame as according to their website they have some nice heritage locos that they use. :-( we were disappointed but there we go, we had this nice tram ride instead
what also is a shame, that the tram society does not display any of its other trams or workshops for people to view what is happening, so even though there are lots of other trams, we could only look at this one
find the tramway museum here pets.org.au
