Ginowan Museum
While walking down a back road to try and find a look-out I found a museum on the side of the road. It was a very distinct building being that it was a very large white building which is not typical for Okinawa let alone this area of Ginowan.
I couldn't help but to check it out so I crossed the street and took a look inside. The museum was free and was not very big but it was quite interesting. There were a number of artifacts that were found in the area of Ginowan and there were also a few documents that were found in Ginowan. The thing that I liked most of all, however, was the traditional style house that was on display. As you flipped through a board showing what the different part of the house were you could start to hear sounds what would be created in that part of the house.
This was very interesting!

Okinawa Japan ???????? Pottery Village
#okinawa #japanpottery #mylifeinokinawa
Yomitan is an village in an attractive semi-rural area near Kadena Airbase north of Naha. The village that has preserved Okinawa traditional pottery styles through support for its potter's workshops and kilns. The Japan Tourist web site, says there are 45 potters active in the area. So there are working potteries and their shops at every turn. There is a huge range of traditional and artistic pieces to suit every budget and taste, and the costs are generally less expensive than found in the stores in Tsubo Street in downtown Naha. The impressive thing in the village is the number of hill climbing kilns (noborigama) that are still regularly fired several times a year. (Oops I said once, my bad) Anyone with an interest in traditional pottery will find the area fascinating.
Most stores are Yen Only!!

CASE FILE #3: JAPAN - LOST SOULS OF OKINAWA 2/3
The elements in this story are a bizarre transnational mix: a US air base, on Japanese land, an American soldier reportedly involved in a homicide, sightings of a Japanese samurai ghost. Adding to the mystery was the fact that the haunted house in question, a military residence, wasn't even where it was supposed to be. It seems a thread must run through all these, a thread hidden from all but the most persistent of investigators.

Kunii Takezaki - 8 Ranked (Hatchi Dan) Master Teacher - Japanese Calligraphy presentation
Presentation at UH Manoa, Japanese Cultural Club
Kunii Takezaki - 8 Ranked (Hatchi Dan) Master Teacher
The word calligraphy literally means beautiful writing. It is an art form that can be found in most civilizations with a written script. Originally developed to stress the importance of culture, religion, and philosophy, over time calligraphy in most languages has developed into a purely artistic expression. In Japan, kanji characters are used in calligraphy.
Kunii Takezaki is a renown Okinawan calligraphy master whose credits include many calligraphy designs for commercial product labels and corporate logo as well as various works produced for the sake of art alone. Kunii Taezaki will also be coming to Hawaii as an East-West Center Visiting Scholar.
Her book An Introduction to Japanese Kanji Calligraphy is an exploration of this Asian art form and examines how calligraphic poetry developed in Japan and is a wonderful introduction to this beautiful art.
Born and raised in Okinawa, Japan, she is the owner of Nihon Shuji Ltd., a Japanese Penmanship Education Foundation affiliated school located in Ginowan City, Okinawa. Under the pen name Gyokushu she has held exhibitions in New York, Colorado, California, and Australia.
As a member of the World Uchinanchu Business Association (WUB), the author hopes to inspire the descendants of Okinawan emigrants around the world.

A haunted area of Okinawa
Do you like haunted/ghost stories?
Okinawa is known for a huge number of ghost stories and since I happened to walk past one I thought it would be a perfect time to show you one of the sites.
This site in the area before Futenma Air Station is a place where people believe you could come across some ghosts. I honestly can not remember the entire story off the top of my head but it is basically said that if you drive down this area late at night in your car you can see a man in your headlights. If you try to drive past him you will then see him chasing your car.
