At the end of the Festival, a commendation ceremony for 22nd Tobinsu Haninsu Kachashi Contest took place. Chura Oasis, the Gold Prized team, and Habu No Gobai, who earned the Grand Prix, proudly danced Kachashi on the stage.
The Gold Prize went to Chura Oasis (Beautiful Oasis.) They performed on Kachachi Dondon, the music of Shuken Maekawa, an Okinawan folk musician.
Habu No Gobai, (Five Times of Habu's), earned The Grand Prix. Habu No Gobai danced on traditional Okinawan folk song, Toshin Doi. Toshin Doi means a Chinese ship is coming. This song is the most famous song for Kachashi dance.

It doesn't matter you are good at dancing or not, put your hands in the air and feel the joyful beat of happiness. Ginowan Museum
While walking down a back road to try and find a look-out I found a museum on the side of the road. It was a very distinct building being that it was a very large white building which is not typical for Okinawa let alone this area of Ginowan.
I couldn't help but to check it out so I crossed the street and took a look inside. The museum was free and was not very big but it was quite interesting. There were a number of artifacts that were found in the area of Ginowan and there were also a few documents that were found in Ginowan. The thing that I liked most of all, however, was the traditional style house that was on display. As you flipped through a board showing what the different part of the house were you could start to hear sounds what would be created in that part of the house.
This was very interesting!

Thousands of Japanese participate in annual tug-of-war event in Okinawa
Japanese locals and tourists joined the three-day Naha Tug-of-War Festival in Japan's southern prefecture of Okinawa last weekend. The annual event drew crowds of over 200,000 who were excited to watch the main event – the tug of war. The game comprises two teams pulling a 200-meter-long rope made of straw weighing at least 43 tons. The tradition traces back to the 17th century, when people would play the game to wish for harmony and prosperity.

Chuu uganabira! My name is Kathryn and I have been living on the beautiful island of Okinawa for almost a decade. I spend most of my time immersing myself in the culture, learning about the history of the island and way of life past and present. In 2011 I decided to start sharing my experiences here on YouTube to offer newcomers and those interested in the island the perspective of someone who has been living here long term.
