We continue our journey towards Canada's National Parks with a stop at Three Valley Lake Chateau, the town of Revelstoke and an overnight stay at the Blanket Creek Provincial Park campground where we explore the campground area and visit Sutherland Falls. We celebrate Gordon's birthday by hiking the scenic Great Glacier trail at Canada's Glacier National Park.

Trans Canada 1 - Westbound - Glacier to Revelstoke National Park time lapse drive
This video picks up where the previous one leaves off. From the Hemlock Grove area of Glacier National Park, the drive heads westbound on Trans Canada Highway 1 across British Columbia into Revelstoke National Park, to the entrance of the scenic drive up the mountain (where the next video begins).

Glacier & Revelstoke - Canada's National Parks
A short tour of some beautiful scenery in Canada's Glacier Park and Mount Revelstoke Park. Each park is quite mountainous with opportunities for hiking and sight seeing. Revelstoke is known for its meandering 16+ mile drive that rises nearly a mile in elevation and reaches a mountain top meadow (Meadows in the Sky) that is filled with wildflowers during the right time of the year. Glacier Park scenes include the Rock Garden, the Hemlock Grove, and various scenic places. The Revelstoke scenes were all viewed at Meadows in the Sky.
Trans Canada Highway 1 BC - Roger's Pass, Mount Revelstoke Glacier National Park

2016 - Glacier National Park, BC, Canada
The first part of our 5-day road trip into the Canadian Rockies was in Glacier National Park. While my sister and family settled into the campground, I took off hiking the mountain above.
The hike was about 12 km long and I managed to climb 900 m above the campground into the alpine region where there was still plenty of snow to be found.

Promenade des Prés-dans-le-ciel - Parc National du Mont Revelstoke - Colombie-Britannique - Canada
Coordonnées GPS: 51°02'26.8N 118°08'54.4W (sommet)
La promenade des Prés-dans-le-Ciel est une route pavée d'une longueur de 26 km qui mène vers le sommet du Mont Revelstoke.
Comme il s'agit d'un parc national, un laissez-passer est exigé pour y accéder. Celui-ci peut être acheté directement au kiosque d'accueil, au début de la promenade, et il doit être placé sur le tableau de bord ou suspendu au rétroviseur.
En ce qui nous concerne, l'année 2017 étant le 500e anniversaire du Canada, nous avions commandé notre carte d'entrée Découverte pour profiter de l'entrée gratuite dans les lieux de Parcs Canada.
Il est important de noter qu'il y a certaines restrictions pour circuler sur cette route qui contient au total 16 lacets. Infos sur le site de Parcs Canada:
Quelques belvédères ont été érigés sur le trajet et offrent des vues sur la ville de Revelstoke et les montagnes.
Nous nous y sommes arrêtés. Ils offrent de superbes vues panoramiques. Cependant, la fumée des feux de forêt diminuait la visibilité.

Nous ne pouvons pas nous rendre jusqu'au sommet de la montagne. Il faut plutôt se stationner à proximité du lac Balsam. Deux possibilités s'offrent ensuite à nous, soit prendre la navette gratuite ou emprunter le Sentier du Sommet de 1 km dans la forêt subalpine.
Le service de navette débutant à 10h00, nous étions arrivés très tôt, nous nous sommes rendus au sommet en empruntant le sentier.
Lorsque nous sommes arrivés à l'entrée du sentier, un panneau affichait des directives puisqu'un grizzly avait été vu dans les parages dernièrement. Comme nous étions plutôt nerveux à l'idée d'entreprendre cette randonnée, nous nous sommes rendus au stationnement dans l'espoir que d'autres personnes utiliseraient ce même sentier.
Nous avons trouvé rapidement un couple avec lequel nous avons formé un groupe et une autre personne, une femme seule, s'est rapidement jointe à nous.
Une fois rendus au sommet, plusieurs sentiers de randonnée sont offerts. La durée, la longueur et le niveau de difficulté des sentiers est extrêmement variée, permettant ainsi à toute type de randonneur de profiter pleinement des lieux (voir
En ce qui nous concerne, nous avons emprunté le Sentier de la Tour Garde Feu (Firetower Trail) d'une longueur de 500 m (aller seulement). Celui-mène à une tour d'observation historique située au sommet de la montagne à une altitude de 6360 pieds, soit 1938 m.
Puis, nous avons pris un petit sentier en boucle qui permet d'avoir des vues de la vallée de la rivière Columbia et des chaînes de montagnes Monashee et Selkirk. Disons que la fumée étant toujours présente, la visibilité était vraiment réduite.
La navette était présente au retour de notre randonnée. Nous avons hésité entre prendre la navette ou bien retourner au stationnement du lac Balsam par le même sentier.
Finalement, nous avons repris le même sentier. Nous étions trois puisque le couple qui nous accompagnait avait opté pour une plus longue randonnée. Tout s'est bien passé. Nous n'avons rencontré aucune bête sauvage. Ouf!
Le courage nous étant revenu, nous avons décidé de faire la randonnée du sentier Promontoire Eagle (Eagle Knoll) d'une longueur de 750 m (aller seulement).
Ce sentier, situé à droite du lac Balsam, nous amène au haut d'une colline boisée, nous permettant ainsi d'avoir une vue panoramique de la vallée de la rivière Columbia.
Il est possible également de faire une courte randonnée autour du lac Balsam, soit une boucle d'une longueur de 500 m.

ROAD TRIP! Exploring the Boardwalks of Revelstoke and Glacier National Park
We took a road trip to the HEMLOCK GROVE BOARDWALK in Glacier National Park and got spooked out! The boardwalk was creepy and felt haunted - the forest was over 350 years old! We continued on our road trip to REVELSTOKE NATIONAL PARK and visited the GIANT CEDARS BOARDWALK and the SKUNK AND CABBAGE BOARDWALK too! It's always so much fun to explore a new place! Let's G0!

Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada
Revelstoke is a city in southeastern British Columbia, Canada. It is located 641 kilometers east of Vancouver, and 415 kilometers west of Calgary, Alberta. The city is situated on the banks of the Columbia River just south of the Revelstoke Dam and near its confluence with the Illecillewaet River. East of Revelstoke are the Selkirk Mountains and Glacier National Park, penetrated by Rogers Pass used by the Trans-Canada Highway and the Canadian Pacific Railway. South of the community down the Columbia River are the Arrow Lakes and the road to the Kootenays. West of the city is Eagle Pass through the Monashee Mountains and the route to Shuswap Lake and points west.
Glacier National Park Canada
Glacier National Park is one of seven national parks in British Columbia, and is part of a system of 43 parks and park reserves across Canada. Established in 1886, the park encompasses 1,349 km2 (521 sq mi), and includes a portion of the Columbia Mountains. It also contains the Rogers Pass National Historic Site.
The park's history is closely tied to two primary Canadian transportation routes, the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), completed in 1885, and the Trans-Canada Highway, completed in 1963. The pass in the centre of the park eluded explorers until 1881. The railway brought with it tourism, the establishment of Glacier National Park and the construction of a popular alpine hotel. The heavy winter snows and steep, avalanche-prone valleys of the park have been a major obstacle to transportation, necessitating much railway engineering and avalanche control measures.
The park contains high peaks, large, active glaciers, and one of Canada's largest cave systems. Its dense forests support populations of large mammals, birds, and alpine species. The region is noted for its heavy snowfall. The park has an extensive network of trails, three campgrounds, and four backcountry huts and cabins. Due to the major transportation routes that bisect it, Glacier National Park sees large numbers of visitors.

Canada 2019 - Quebec, Banff, Yoho & Revelstoke National Parks 4K

Canada is part 2 of our 5-week bucket list trip. 2.5 days in Quebec and 5 days in the Canadian Rockies. A very quick afternoon around Montreal, followed by a day visiting the beautiful Laurentian Mountains region and their picturesque villages of Saint Sauveur & Mt Tremblant. We also spent a wonderful evening with friends and fellow You Tubers Serge et Helene who happen to live in the Montreal area. A mandatory trip to Quebec City the next day with its UNESCO listed Historic District of Vieux Quebec and the wonderful Montmorency Falls to conclude a whirlwind 2.5-day tour of the superb Quebec region.
The next 5 days were spent exploring Banff, Yoho, Glacier, and Mount Revelstoke National Parks. A bucket list hike of Lake O'Hara and its Alpine Circuit Trail is also featured here. This hike has been a 4 year in the making project due to the difficulty in obtaining a day pass and bus ride run by Parks Canada to get to the Lake. The Canadian Rockies truly are a magnificent part of this world and a true privilege to explore time and time again. Please like and subscribe if you enjoy this film.
