Hawaii Life : Glass Beach, Kauai
Hawaii Life Channel now offering you the newest installation of a series of 20 Videos from Kauai. VOLUME #! - Glass Beach.
Filmed on location at Ele Ele Town in Kaua'i, Hawaii. Glass Beach is just one of those places that hides away from the typical tourist routes, a special fantasy coming true for me.
The music bumping in the background really puts my feelings in perspective on stepping foot to this beach!!!! I looooove it! Dream fulfilled after Glass Beach and will be yours too if you get here, feel the sand with your bare feet, touch it with your hands and wiggle your toes as the waves crash on it slowly sinking your feet to the brilliant gemlike sand grains. Amazing!

Glass Beach Kauai Hawaii
Port Allen, Kauai HI
It takes the ocean about 10 to 30 years to create sea glass, and the resulting tumbled glass by the ocean is a frosted, jelly bean-like pebble.
Glass Beach is located in the middle of an industrial part in Hanapepe, Kauai. The shoreline of Glass Beach is covered with millions of sea glasses - brown, aqua-colored, clear and blue.
The glass found at Glass Beach was broken bottles and auto glass dumped by Swiss Cheese Shoreline on the western end of Kauai. Located between Lawai Beach and Salt Pond Beach Park, Glass Beach is a stretch of glittering pieces of broken glass. It's amazing to see what the ocean did to all that junk. The one thing that could mar the ethereal effect of Glass Beach is the gas tanks overlooking one side of the beach.

Glass Sand Beach on Kauai Island: The Hawiian Islands
Glass Sand Beach is a phenomenon in Ele'ele: southwest shoreline of Kauai.
My favorite place to hunt treasures as the old dump sits next door and has been eroding into this part of the ocean for decades.
The glass beach formed from the glass eroding into the water, mostly brown glass as in beer bottles. haha!

The Kauai Laysan Albatross cam is a collaboration between the
Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the Kauai Albatross Network.

The first egg at the Laysan Albatross cam site on the North Shore of Kauai begun hatching on January 23,
just in time for the cam to go live! If everything proceeds normally, we expected
the young albatross to emerge in the next 24-48 hours.
This year's nest features Mahealani and Pilialoha, a female-female pair that spent time
incubating an infertile egg on camera last year. Female-female pairs are relatively
common in albatross colonies, and their commonness can change with the availability of
suitable male mates and the success of prior nesting attempts. This year one of the
females in this pair has again laid an infertile egg.
This year, however, several organizations involved in the conservation and management
of albatrosses replaced the infertile egg with a fertile one from the Pacific Rim Missile Facility.
Nesting must be discouraged along an active runway there to decrease the likelihood of
collisions between the albatrosses and aircraft. Because the egg was saved from a nest at the
facility, a young albatross will now have a chance at life with its foster moms.
This effort is part of a larger operation each year when biologists from the U.S.
Navy gather eggs from nests at the facility to discourage nesting there.
Researchers from Pacific Rim Conservation candle these eggs to assess their fertility.
Viable eggs are then substituted for infertile eggs at other nests around the island,
as well as helping to establish new colonies. Working together, the Kauai Albatross
Network ( (KAN) and the Hawaii Department of Land and
Natural Resources placed 14 eggs at fenced properties with good albatross nesting habitat
and landowners who manage for invasive predators such as cats, rats, and pigs.
Hob Osterlund, founder of KAN, played a central role in bringing together these widespread
partners, and calls the egg translocation project a model of cooperation between
federal and state agencies along with private landowners and KAN, all working together for the good of the birds.
Thanks to the hard work of these organizations, the generosity of the cam site landowner,
and the support of the cam community, we all get to witness another season in the lives
of albatrosses from the garden island. As always, even if you can't watch, you can follow
along with the happenings at the cam site

Glass Beach August 2015
Time lapse at Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, California. Most of the glass is gone now and they turned it into a giant tourist trap walking path type beach overlook with awful parking. It used to be pretty natural and a fun place to visit. Sadly I think our trips to Glass Beach are coming to an end.
Hanapepe on the West Side, Kauai's Biggest Little City
Hanapepe is located on Kauai's West Side just beyond Port Allen and Eleele. At one time, it was Kauai's major center of commerce but that was long ago and now it's a sleeply little village and home to many of the island's artists. Friday night is Artist Night when stores are open late and some of the artists are in their stores.
Drive up Moi Road to Hanapepe Heights, a large residential area. Homes are priced more modest than elsewhere on the island. Rim homes overlooking the Hanapepe River far below tend to be priced higher than the rest..
Salt Pond Beach Park & Port Allen Airport on Kauai's West Side
The little village of Hanapepe is host to Port Allen Airport and Salt Pond Beach park. The airport consists of a small landing strip and nothing more. It's primary use is by a few helicopters and powered hang gliders but even this activity is low.
Much more popular is Salt Pond Beach Park. This county park featues a wonderful, semi-protected pool with a sandy beach. It's one of the few Kauai beaches with lifeguards. It has restrooms, BBQ facilities, and camping is allowed with a permit.
Hanapepe Falls, Kauai
hanapepe falls, kauai. its an 8 mile hike on the kalalau trail from the nrothshore of Ke Kee beach. rated a 10, one of the best hikes i've ever done.
