Climb the Glass House Mountains on the Sunshine Coast
The Glass House Mountains National Park is noted for its distinctive craggy peaks that tower above the surrounding landscape.
Formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago, these ancient rocky outcrops are of special significance to the Gubbi Gubbi Aboriginal people.
The Mount Ngungun summit walking track is a 2.8 kilometre trail that begins in open forest and offers great views of Mount Tibrogargan, Mount Coonowrin and Mount Beerwah from the summit. Don't forget to pack your camera as you'll find a 360 degree panoramic view of the coast and hinterland when you reach the top!

THE GEOLOGY OF THE GLASS HOUSE MOUNTAINS
The question is often put, “are the Glasshouse Mountains the remnants of old volcanoes?” the short answer is no, as they are magma intrusions that were formed and matured underground some 25 million years ago in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Queensland, Australia.

Here are some cuts from a recent Aerial Shoot. Shot with the Sony F3 Above the Glasshouse Mountains North of Brisbane, This was shot as part of an upcoming Promo video for a client.
Craggy volcanic peaks tower over a scenic patchwork of pine plantations, bushland and cultivated fields. Many of the peaks are protected in Glass House Mountains National Park, while the pine plantations and a range of native vegetation types are managed in several State forests and forest reserves near the park.
Named by James Cook during his epic voyage along Australia's east coast, the Glass Houses are rhyolite plugs formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago. Remnants of the open eucalypt woodland and heath vegetation, which once covered the coastal plains, provide a home for an interesting variety of animals and plants, including 26 near threatened plant species.
The Glass House Mountains area was a special meeting place where many Aboriginal people gathered for ceremonies and trading. This place is considered spiritually significant with many ceremonial sites still present

Glass House Mountains in 360
#visitsunshinecoast They're one of the most quintessential landmarks on the Sunshine Coast - eleven peaks that rise dramatically from the coastal plains. Their beauty caught the attention of Captain James Cook in 1770 who named them the Glass House Mountains because they reminded him of glass furnaces back in Yorkshire. Formed over 26 million years ago, these volcanic plugs are spiritually significant to the local Aboriginal people and are listed on the Queensland and National Heritage Registers as a landscape of national significance. The peaks are known as Mount Beerburrum, Mount Beerwah, Mount Coochin, Mount Coonowrin (Crookneck), Mount Elimbah (The Saddleback), Mount Ngungun, Mount Tibberoowuccum, Mount Tibrogargan, Mount Tunbubudla (The Twins), Wild Horse Mountain (Round Mountain) and Mount Miketeebumulgrai. Remnants of open eucalypt woodland and heath vegetation can be found in the park which is home to a variety of animals and plants. For great views, head to the lookout in Beerburrum State Forest or take on one of the peaks. There are a range of walking trails, ranging in difficulty, that can be found in various locations throughout the National Park. The summit routes on Mounts Ngungun and Tibrogargan are also suitable for roped sports for experienced and well-equipped climbers.

Glass House Mountains Lookout
Glass House Mountains. This region is one of the 7 National Park on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. It’s an area of 12 distinctive hills and mountain peaks located inland from the Sunshine Coast. Their cragged and unusual form led to them being named by Lieutenant James Cook as he sailed up the coast of Queensland in 1770 because they reminded him of the glass furnace chimneys in his Yorkshire homeland.
The area is made up of around 880 hectares across eight sections of parkland and has received heritage protection for its historic and cultural importance. Australia has some of the oldest geology in the world and these remnants of ancient super volcanos give insight into the formation of our unique geography.
It’s a dramatically beautiful area and an inviting contrast to the Sunshine Coast beaches only a 20 minute drive away. To anyone visiting the coast we’d highly recommend that you head inland for a day visit, or a night or two if you can, to enjoy it fully. From the nearest major city of Brisbane it’s less than an hours drive making it the perfect weekend drive.
The mountains have heritage protection within the Glass House Mountains National Park which sets aside substantial areas for recreation, wildlife protection, walking tracks, climbing and trails for horse riding and mountain bikes.
Posiada znaczną część rekreacyjną, ochronę przyrody, ścieżki spacerowe, wspinaczkę i trasy do jazdy konnej i rowerów górskich.

Another excellent drone footage of the MT Beerwah :
We certainly could so we set of and did, luckily they rain stayed away since it could be very difficult to descend when wet.
The first part of the walk is the hardest. When coming down this was rather difficult so i looked for another way day and there is a much easier and safer way down.
At the top of the steep section at the start vear to the right (looking down) and follow the ridge of small trees growing in the rock and follow that down almost to the ground where its just a small slide to the ground. not a big one like going straight down seeemed far easier and safer.

Glasshouse Mountains 4x4 - Track Day #1
G'day G'day,
First day out on the tracks with most of the crew. Good training ground leading up to our Cape York adventure in August. Was a great opportunity to put our vehicles and ourselves thru some pretty knarly tracks. Glasshouse Mountains really does have a lot to offer 4x4 enthusiasts from mild to wild.
We learnt a hell of a lot. Especially about how our vehicles behave on such terrain and what they are capable of. Pretty lucky to have such a spot not so far from home and easily accessible.
We plan on doing another two days out there as part of the lead up to our Cape Trip. This was day one.
Next time we'll hopefully get some winch experience in, as I personally don't have any and have just fitted a winch to the Hilux. But anyway. The footage does zero justice to how steep those hills are and the angles the cars got into. always slipping and sliding and at one point nearly rolled the Hilux onto it's side.
Enjoy guys.
