GLASS WINDOW BRIDGE ELEUTHERA BAHAMAS , MAN SWEPT OFF ROCKS
Glass Window Bridge Eleuthera Bahamas. watch closely as man is swept off the rocks over the road and down the other side into the coral at the Glass Window Bridge Eleuthera Bahamas. Huge waves crashing over bridge. We went to the Bridge to watch the huge waves crash over the road, instead we ended up video taping this gentlemen from Spanish Wells, who had gone down towards the bridge to help cars cross the bridge between the huge waves. He got swept over the road into the coral. He suffered a dislocated wrist and multiple lacerations. He's lucky to be alive. (video by my partner Wayne Woods)

BAHAMAS
Glass Window Bridge
This isthmus in the Bahamas narrowly separates the roiling Atlantic from the cool Bight of Eleuthera.
When Winslow Homer painted “Glass Window” he was on assignment for Century Magazine, chronicling his trip to the Bahamas in watercolors. It was 1885, and the artist saw this bridge in its original state—a natural stone arch barely separating the Atlantic Ocean from the Bight of Eleuthera.
The stone arch connecting Eleuthera island’s two narrow strips of land that Homer saw is long gone, washed away by hurricanes. But the name he gave the unique site has stuck. Still called the Glass Window Bridge, it’s a vulnerable spot that has been destroyed and rebuilt many times in the intervening 130 years.
Often called the “Narrowest Place on Earth”, the bridge today still provides a view of the stunning contrast between the Atlantic and Bight of Eleuthera’s distinct natures. Occasionally, when a strong wave washes over the rocks, for a brief moment that separation disappears, and the two bodies of water shake hands.
Know Before You Go
Queen's Highway runs the length of Eleuthera, a skinny island only a mile wide in some spots, and 110 miles long. The Glass Window Bridge connects the north island to the south, and you can get there by car or bike.Be aware of the force of the waves from the Atlantic side, which can hit unexpectedly and with some force. Caution is advised.

Glass Window Bridge Eleuthera Bahamas 3/5/18
Where the Atlantic and the Bight of Eleuthera meet, there is a narrow bridge. It’s a Beautiful sight, even when it’s raging!!! Several people have been injured and one swept out to sea. Captured this video off our boat.
Discover the Blue Window, Eleuthera Bahamas
You have probably heard about the Glass Window Bridge, but the tourist maps do not tell you about the Blue Window, in Eleuthera, Bahamas. Both sites show you just how powerful the sea really is: strong enough to tear open a window in the rock. Check out my journey to this beautiful coastal area in Eleuthera, Bahamas with a group of friends, who couldn't help but play the fool.

While we were in Dunmore Town, Harbour Island for Nikki's birthday, we did a bit of research on the rest of the island. It seems the popular thing to do here is rent a car in the north and drive south to explore. Since a rental car cost $80 plus $60+ for a tank of fuel we decided to forego the land experience and just sail as close as possible.
Turns out the island is pretty skinny and we can anchor near many of the popular spots. We're starting just south of Harbour Island at the two most famous spots: Glass Window Bridge and Queens Bath.
We hope you enjoy this little slice of paradise and the beautiful rocky cliffs of northern Eleuthera.
See ya on the water,
- Jason, Nikki, Cleo and Singa

Looking Through the Glass Window at the Queen's Bath 54 Sailing Saoirse
Looking Through the Glass Window at the Queen's Bath 54 Sailing Saoirse
Due to light wind we're unable to sail to the glass window bridge. So we do what people do in Eleuthera to get around, hitchhike! The glass window bridge is a beautiful sight to see. The Caribbean side of Eleuthera is calm and peaceful while the Atlantic side is rough and violent. We picked the perfect time to go, low tide. It allowed us to go under the bridge and get a more up close and personal feel for the two different bodies of water. The glass window bridge was once completely made naturally from coral rock, until a hurricane knocked it into the ocean. It was rebuilt but has subject to damage over the years from other hurricanes. The bridge can be very dangerous during severe weather or rages. Many live have been lost from people being swept away to sea by large waves. There is no coral reef on the Atlantic Ocean side to protect the bridge from large waves that build miles out at sea. Although it can be dangerous at times, it's very beautiful to see the vast contrast between the two waters.
Before it got too late in the day, we headed over to the Queen's baths just south of the bridge. The baths are limestone pools that have been carved out from the Atlantic ocean over many many years. Sea life can be found in the baths. The baths closest to the crashing waves get filled up often and tend to be cooler than the baths further up that bake in the sun. It's a busy place, lots of people come and go but few stay more than 20 minutes, unlike us. We were there for a few hours. It was so pretty there we didn't want to leave.
We got a ride in the back of a pickup truck to get back to Saoirse. Then we took Oona on a long walk across town to a large secluded beach. We had a picture perfect sunset to end the day.
