UM! Whisky Tour #20: Glen Moray
The penultimate episode of GogsieBroons' Amazing World of Whisky (Speyside Tour 2009) sees the erstwhile Mr Broon in the town of Elgin at the criminally underrated Glen Moray distillery where he refrains from publicly making a spacker of himself and instead, quietly appreciates his whiskoid. Also Linkwood, Inchgower and Glenglassaugh. Uisge Mhath!.
Glen Moray 18 year old Single Malt Whisky
Within our aged whisky range, Elgin Heritage and Elgin Reserve offer stunning Single Malts which encapsulate quality and accessibility.
Choose your own Glen Moray indulgence and let it whisk you off on a nostalgic journey. Unmistakably Glen Moray, impeccably Speyside.
The Glen Moray 18-year-old is made without compromise. Matured in the finest first-fill ex-Bourbon casks. Non-chill filtered and bottled at higher strength, this elegant whisky has a beautiful antique gold colour.
On the nose, there's a wonderful combination of toasted oak and caramelised autumn fruits.
On the taste, it's incredibly smooth and soft. Bottled at higher strength, sweet vanilla oak and a lovely fruitiness.
The finish is incredibly smooth and long. The sweet oak flavours subside and there's a little hint of spice that develops as the flavours subside in your mouth.
It really is a wonderful whisky.
Glen Moray Distillery was established in 1897 at the site of the old Elgin West Brewery. Nestled on the outskirts of the historic town of Elgin the distillery has been producing the finest single malt for more than a century.
Nestling on the banks of the river Lossie, the distillery sits in the Laich O’Moray, known as the granary of Scotland. Local legend claims that Moray is blessed with an extra 40 days of sunshine.
The marriage of our spirit and oak is something which is closely watched over the years of maturation.
We use ex bourbon barrels sourced from North America to mature Glen Moray and these produce a whisky with rich and spicy characteristics. These casks, specially selected by our master distiller of varying ages to ensure the highest quality of Whisky, deliver a superior product that has a smooth and well-rounded taste.
In 2017 Glen Moray celebrates its 120th anniversary !

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 287: Glen Elgin 13 Year Old 2000 Spirit of Scotland
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries a summery dram! Glen Elgin can be found – as the name suggest – near the city of Elgin in Speyside. Together with Mannochmore and Glenlossie, it’s an integral part of the blend White Horse. There are hardly any official releases and the core range consists of only the rather boring Glen Elgin 12 Year Old which can be purchased for less than 40 EUR. Mark, however, tries a 13 years old from 2000, selected by Van Wees in Holland, but bottled by Spirit of Scotland. FYI: this is the ‘b-label’ of Gordon & Macphail, although they have released quite a few gems under this label.

Whisky Wednesday - Glen Elgin 12 Year Old
Hidden in the dense melting pot of Speyside, there lies several hidden and unknown gems, this little bottle is one of them. Glen Elgin, a distillery that is not only underrated but also misunderstood. Diageo own a whole host of distilleries and this guy, a long with Clynelish, Dailuaine and North British go under he radar to nearly all whisky drinkers. This is an easy contender for the big sherry crown that is normally held by Glenfarclas, Macallan and Dalmore, but much more affordable although not easily available. As you may be able to tell, i'm quite a fan of this distillery and hopefully, if you get your hands on it, you will be as well! Cheers!

Jack Daniels unfinished Master Distiller Series No.1 - United Kingdom
Before the actual Master Distiller series started, the Jack Daniel`s distillery released a Master Distiller series for the United Kingdom market only.
Well it did not become a real series as the distillery stopped it after just one bottle released.
Rumours say this was because the bottles design changed to the evo form, other rumours say those UK series was stopped to do the actual Master Distiller series which was sold all over the world.
The 70cl bottle came in a nice leather box with a special hang tag celebrating Master Distiller No.1 Jack Daniel.
