About Me: I am a British wildlife artist based in Thixendale, North Yorkshire. I use nestcams to study animal behaviour so that I can capture the individual characters of my wild subjects in paint. I spent a weekend at the end of March in the Monadhliath mountains in the Scottish Highlands, an area known for its remoteness and wildlife. Join me behind the scenes for this nature photography vlog up in the hills, where I spend the day with some of the most relaxed mountain hares (Lepus timidus) I’ve ever encountered, using my Nikon Z7 and 200-500mm f/5.6 lens to film the wildlife and DJI Osmo Pocket to film myself and the surroundings! I hadn’t intended to make another hare-specific video so soon after the last one, but these guys were so awesome and unbothered by my presence that I got loads of footage I wanted to share! Interestingly, as well as being more relaxed around me, these hares were also far less active than those in the Eastern Cairngorms in February. I'm already planning another trip in the summer to see the hares, so I wonder how their behaviour will be then...????????????
This is the first of three videos from my Monadhliath mountains trip - watch the others here:
Part 2: Unexpected Frisky Frogs -
Part 3: Fabulous Feral Goats -
Note about the Osmo Pocket: It still has some issues starting up with the self-calibration, but physically pushing the head through its movements after it has failed seems to make it to calibrate the next time, after which it seems to work properly. Since I want to use it for several upcoming projects coming up, I think I’lI delay having it looked unless the problem gets worse...
Please like, share and leave a comment and let me know what you enjoyed, or suggest where I could improve for next time. If you don’t like it, feel free to hit the dislike button twice ???? Cheers!

Mountain Hare by Paul Edwards
This was my first sighting of a Mountain Hare (Lepus timidus), it happened in 2007 near a old abandoned quarry at Crowden. At first I though it was a Brown Hare but on closer inspection I realised it was slightly different, this hare is smaller and has smaller ears, the main giveaway was it's tail, they stay white through out the year unlike a normal hare which is black on top of its tail. The mountain hare is the only true british hare, the Brown Hare coming from Europe.
I have not seen another one, so I will be on the lookout as we approach 2011.

Cairngorm National Park, Scotland
The Cairngorm National Park is in the North East of Scotland and easily reached from Edinburgh or Glasgow. It is a massive 452 800ha National Park with 17000 people living and working there. There are huge mountains and the interior is relatively untouched as it is cut off from the roads and routes the tourists take.
There is plenty to see and do here and below I will put some of the links to help you on your way around the National Park.
