WORKAROUND: EPISODE SEVEN PIPPA DICKSON
Wed., 1 August 2018
10:00 am – 4:00 pm AEST
It’s the post pokie-pub apocalypse. The landscape has been re-shaped and what’s next? In this episode our task is to move the conversation to imagining pubs and clubs in our suburbs and cities without poker machines. How did we get here and what does it look like now? Have venues closed? Have jobs been lost? What has replaced the pokie den? Post Pokies Apocalypse taps into Pippa Dickson's interest in design, community and cultural development and social justice through physical spaces and governance structures that enable vibrant economies, community cohesion and social activity.
Pippa Dickson imagines, creates and directs a range of creative and socially conscious projects. She has been directly working to increase the value of community, arts and culture in Australia for over 15 years. Pippa founded Design Island for Arts Tasmania in 2002 and was the founding CEO of the Glenorchy Art & Sculpture Park (GASP!). She has been responsible for developing and implementing strategic priorities and raising significant investment from all tiers of government and the private sector for public community infrastructure and major international art projects. Pippa has a PhD in Fine Arts, Furniture Design, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She has furniture designs held in collections including Design Tasmania, The Henry Jones Art Hotel and the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). Pippa Co-Chaired the National Craft Initiative (2013-2016) as a Director of the National Association for Visual Artists (NAVA) and is currently Chair of Design Tasmania. Pippa is also a proud co-owner of a Pokies Free pub in Hobart, The Salty Dog Hotel and is the Director of consultancy, Expecting Good Weather.

Across fourteen daily episodes, fourteen Australian practitioners each present a critique, conversation, interview, workshop or performance that articulates their strategies and workarounds and reflects on their activist practice.
UTS Architecture Public Lecture Series 2014: Aaron Roberts
LENS: AARON ROBERTS
On Perceptual Phenomena. experience, and relationship to place.
15th of October 2014
Aaron Roberts presents a discussion on the experiential qualities of architecture, its relationship to place and the underlying methodologies, intentions and outcomes of selected projects by Room11.
Aaron Roberts is a founding Director of Room11 Architects. Room11 deliver projects across a wide range of typologies and scale, with a focus on architecture as means to manipulate the experience and perception of its inhabitants and their relationship to place.
Room 11 recently received critical acclaim for its two GASP (Glenorchy Art and Sculpture Park) pavilions, on the Derwent estuary in Hobart. The practice seeks an architecture that responds to the scale of surrounding landforms, using – in this case – colour and form as a vehicle for the re-evaluation and re-appreciation of place.
Auckland To Bluff & Back Again | Travel Vlog - New Zealand♡
Hey guys! So the boyfriend and I went away on a road trip of the South Island of New Zealand and it was literally the trip of a lifetime. I've travelled to many different countries over the years, but there's nothing like seeing your own country and experiencing the beauty of home.
Along the way we stopped in Wanganui before arriving in Wellington where we took the InterIslander ferry over to Picton. From there we travelled on over to Nelson, than right up to the stunning Abel Tasman National Park before endeavouring down the stunning and iconic West Coast. We took in the views of Lake Wanaka and Queenstown, found a home in Te Anau and were in awe of the majestic heaven-like wonderland that is Milford Sounds. After that, we travelled back up the East Coast where we dragged our feet up the World's Tallest Residential Street, travelled back in time in Oamaru and payed homage to the 120 White Chairs of Christchurch. At last we immersed ourselves in the healing waters of Hamner Springs, before taking the Ferry back to Wellington and making the admittedly doleful trip back up to Auckland.
We hope you enjoy this wee video and if you've considered travelling to and around New Zealand, we highly recommend.
I hope you enjoyed this video, and maybe come back for future videos featuring yours truly. It would be awesome if you subscribed, its free and helps me out a lot! Thank you lovelies, I really appreciate all of your support xxx ♡
