Day 6 of our South Island Adventure - September 2014 Haast to Queenstown
Today we left the West Coast and travelled over the Haast Pass into Central Otago to Queenstown but not before we drove down the no exit road to Jacksons Bay,strolled a boardwalk and watched native birds in their environment.Then it was on over the Haast Pass onto the Cardrona Valley and the fabulous views from the top of the road towards Queenstown

Today we are going to one of the main attractions of the New Zealand West Coast, the Franz Josef Glacier. Although we do have a heli-hike planned, the weather is too bad for any flights onto the glacier today – a common occurrence that you should prepare for if going to Franz Josef. However, we found one of the great rainy day activities for Franz Josef Glacier: the Glacier Hot Pools.
The Glacier Hot Pools in Franz Josef are surrounded by native rainforest and consist of three main hot pools, all with names written in Maori. Even the spring water used in the pools have a Maori legend behind them. The main pools vary in temperatures between 36 – 40 degrees Celsius. We have 90 minutes to enjoy these popular New Zealand hot pools.
After relaxing in these Franz Josef hot pools we move onto our own private pool, which is down a rainforest walkway. Here we have a small hot pool and shower/changing area to ourselves surrounded by magnificent forest. It’s the perfect place to relax and talk about our upcoming adventures here in Franz Josef on the South Island West Coast.

皇后鎮是奧塔哥中部地區的最大城市，但出於一些管理上的理由，皇后鎮通常被看作為紐西蘭南島的南部地區的一部分。因為是旅遊度假勝地的關係，皇后鎮上有很多間餐廳旅館，特色美食是燒羊肉與酥皮卷，這兩項美食一直都為紐西蘭的傳統食物。美國前總統比爾·柯林頓也曾在汽船碼頭的Boardwalk餐廳嘗過海鮮。
皇后鎮命名由來：當地的淘金者為了紀念英國女王維多利亞，取這個名字是為了女王的健康。現在，皇后鎮成為了全紐西蘭乃至世界聞名的旅遊度假勝地。

Heading into the cooler seasons now in Adelaide, so this inspired some reminiscing of Summer just gone. In particular a Summer holiday in New Zealand where I did a road trip to Glenorchy and came across this gorgeous boardwalk with a lamp post that captured my attention.
I've used bright bold primary colours in my abstract work to help add some warmth and vitality and in particular made the lamp post red to remain to focal point of the painting so it too will capture your attention like it did mine.
