Cette montagne, d'une hauteur de 749 m, appartient au massif montagneux de Derryveagh. Elle est située au nord-ouest de l'île, plus précisément au coeur du parc national de Glenveagh.

On l'aperçoit de très loin sur la route. Elle a l'allure d'un volcan éteint. Nous pouvons contourner ce massif par deux routes, soit par la N56 ou la R251. Nous avons choisi de parcourir cette dernière puisqu'elle offre une excellente vue de la montagne ainsi que des lacs situés au pied du massif montagneux.

Rendus au village de Money Beg, nous avons bifurqué vers la droite sur un petit chemin qui borde le lac Dunlewey. Nous nous sommes donc contentés de l'observer sur le bord de cette route.

Cependant, il est possible de se rendre au sommet du mont Errigal par le flanc sud. Cependant, le sentier comporte un dénivelé assez prononcé et est surtout recommandé pour les randonneurs expérimentés.

This magnificent park has over 16,000 hectares (40,000 acres) of mountains, lakes, glens and woods, with a herd of red deer and the recently reintroduced Golden Eagle. A quaint castle is surrounded by one of the best gardens in Ireland, which contrasts sharply with the rugged surroundings. The Visitor Centre houses exhibitions and an audio-visual show.

Gleanveagh National Park isnt very far outside of Letterkenny in County Donegal and is right around the corner from Mount Errigal (check out my video). I had been here before but this time I wanted to hike up to the view point and see what it had to offer.

I used my iPhone XR and my DJI Mavic Air Drone to film in 4k.

Ce belvédère est situé sur la route R251 au pied du mont Errigal ( Il offre une splendide vue panoramique de la vallée Poisoned Glen dans laquelle se trouve l'église de Dunlewey ( du massif montagneux de Derryveagh et du lac Dunlewey.

Pourquoi une si belle vallée porte un tel nom? Il semblerait qu'une erreur de traduction aurait causé cet imbroglio, le mot irlandais neamh signifiant le ciel tandis que le mot irlandais neimhe signifierait le poison.

Dunlewey Church - Glenveagh National Park - County Donegal - Ireland

Église de Dunlewey- Parc national de Glenveagh - Comté de Donegal - Irlande

Cette église du XIXe siècle sied à la base du mont Errigal dans une magnifique vallée. Elle est entourée d'une multitude de rhododendrons qui agrémentent le paysage.

Aujourd'hui, il n'en reste que les ruines, mais la structure étant bien conservée, il est encore possible de tomber sous le charme de cette église.

Celle-ci, construite en marbre blanc et quartzite bleu, aurait été érigée par Jane Smith Russell en hommage à son défunt mari.

Son emplacement permet d'avoir une superbe vue d'ensemble du massif montagneux, de la vallée et des lacs qui l'entourent.

Glenveagh National Park is set in some 16,500 hectares of County Donegal.

Surrounded by mountains, lakes, glens and woods, with a large herd of red deer. Glenveagh Castle was built between 1867 and 1873.

Set in a remote and hauntingly beautiful wilderness with unlimited opportunities to explore and experience...literally heaven on earth.

The castle and gardens were inspired by the Victorian idyll of a romantic highland retreat. John Townsend Trench, a cousin of its builder and first owner, John George Adair, designed it.

A place you must visit along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Ireland: Glenveagh National Park Vlog

Ireland episode3: Glenveagh National Park Garden & Castle, Horn Head - hiking, Londonderry

15 day trip by rental car: on our 3rd day we reach Derry - in the afternoon. Short visit of the town (walk to Peace Bridge, .....) Hotel: Maldron Hotel Derry.
Next Morning ongoing visit: City walls, churches, Tower museum.
At noon we left Derry and drove to Glenveagh NP. Short Round-walk through the Castle&Gardens. In the evening we reached Dunfanagy. Next morning we drove by car to the Horn Head, where we intended to hike. But there was a lot of rain and wind.
