Walk in the stream through a narrow canyon to find a beautiful waterfall
Hengifoss Waterfall | Fljotsdalsherad Eastfjords Iceland
Hengifoss is a waterfall in the East of Iceland that cascades off the Fljótdalsheidi moorland cliffs down 128 meters (420 ft). The waterfall is surrounded by truly extraordinary tertiary lava strata where you will find layers upon layers of natural red clay that together create one of the most awe-inspiring views you will find in Iceland. The hike up to the waterfall is easy and finding the waterfall as well as it is located only 40-60 minutes away from the biggest town in the East. Once again it’s time to be amazed by nature and the way it has sculpted basalt lava!

ICELAND: South Coast Waterfalls & Seljavallalaug Geothermal Pool
Third part of my solo trip to ICELAND!
Foss day! Foss = Waterfall. ???? 3 fosses in 1 day! Skogafoss, Seljalandsfoss, and Gljufrabui. I spent the night at this tiny hotel literally right across from Skogafoss waterfall, in the middle of nowhere! I woke up early to beat the crowd. It was already raining, but that did not stop me from venturing out. There was literally nobody at the falls. It was just me, the roaring water, and the rain. I got soaked, my camera got soaked, everything pretty much got COMPLETELY soaked. It was a disaster. I had to do it 3 times (3 waterfalls). LOL! I did not get the shots that I wanted because of all the spray coming from the falls and the rain. Nonetheless, I loved and enjoyed every single minute of this day! I ended the day at this hidden geothermal pool at the foothills of Eyjafjallajökull volcano (yeah, good luck on pronouncing that! lol.) This certain volcano stopped air traffic over Europe when it erupted in 2010. Crazy! The drive to the trailhead was not very fun. It was a dirt road with a bunch of pot holes. I honestly thought I was not gonna make it alive. Haha! And then to get to the geothermal pool, I had to hike and cross a shallow river by foot! That was quite an experience!

Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Gljufrafoss Top Iceland waterfalls drone
Seljalandsfoss waterfall is one of the best known places in Iceland. Seljalandsfoss is located in the South Region in Iceland right by Route 1 (Iceland) and the road that leads to Þórsmörk Road 249. The waterfall is one of the most popular waterfalls and natural wonders in Iceland. The waterfall drops 60 meters and is part of the river Seljalands-river that has its origin in the volcano glacier Eyjafjallajokull. One of the interesting things about this waterfall is the fact that visitors can walk behind it into a small cave.
Gljufrafoss waterfall ( Gljúfrafoss or Gljúfrabúi ) one who lives in the canyon is a small waterfall north of the larger falls of Seljalandsfoss waterfall in Iceland. The falls are partially obscured by the cliff rock, but hikers can follow a trail to enter the narrow canyon where the water plummets to a small pool. There is also a winding trail nearby and a wooden staircase to enable sightseers to climb roughly halfway up and view the falls from another perspective.

Seljalandsfoss waterfall or the one you can walk behind as it is often called is one of the must-visit places in Iceland. Falling right from Eyjafjallajökull glacier that famously erupted in 2010 making it even more special.
