Got caught out with the quirky local liquor laws. Tried to buy a bottle of port on special not realising it was before 4 PM in the afternoon. Fortified wine is off the agenda before then so I dagged around the bottle shop killing ten minutes of time. One of the minor adjustments of living in FNQ. While walking back I assess the customer service of Qantas as opposed to Jetstar. Both had their own strengths and plenty of weaknesses. I also compared travel cards comparing the likes of Travelex cards compared to say 28 degrees cards. They both have their fans and distracters making the choice all the more difficult. At least I seem to have committed to a Spanish sim card that will suit my needs.

Auckland International Airport Limited (Auckland Airport) today announced it has agreed to purchase from Westpac Bank a 24.55% stake in North Queensland Airports (NQA), the operator of Cairns and Mackay airports in Queensland, Australia for A$132.8m (approximately NZ $166m). Auckland Airports chairman, Tony Frankham, said, This is a significant milestone for Auckland Airport and for our strategy to grow beyond our core business in Auckland. This proposed acquisition opens up exciting new opportunities to strengthen and grow air services connections with Cairns as a stepping stone between New Zealand and the high-growth tourism markets of Asia, and enables us to leverage our world class expertise in the large scale movement of people and goods to grow shareholder value. Cairns Airport is Australias seventh busiest airport, with approximately 3.7 million passengers in the year to 30 June 2009 (compared with Auckland Airports 13.0 million passengers in the same period). It is the closest international airport to Asia on Australias eastern seaboard and is the gateway to Tropical North Queensland, an internationally renowned tourism region boasting two World Heritage listed attractions; the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforests. Mackay Airport is an important regional domestic airport with nearly 1 million passengers in the year to 30 June 2009. The airport is the main airport servicing the Bowen Basin, an important region for natural resources, which contains one of the largest deposits of coal in the world. Mackay Airport also benefits from its close proximity to the Whitsunday resort islands.
Auckland Airports chief executive, Simon Moutter, said, Since indicating in March 2009 that we would pursue opportunistic but carefully selected step-outs, weve looked at a range of opportunities to drive synergies and volume for our core business at Auckland. We also recognise that our most important value driver is growth in international passenger volumes. We believe that Asian tourism markets offer the greatest opportunity for volume growth and that one of the keys to growing Asian traffic is improved air services connections. Driving more travel demand out of Asia will be crucial to the future growth of both Auckland Airport and the New Zealand tourism sector. New Zealand has underperformed against Australia in gaining a share of Asian tourism, so we have decided to take a position in the Australian market in an effort to get better connected and lift our market share. While our primary focus remains direct Asian connections with Auckland, an important stepping-stone is to strengthen connections with other strategically located airports.

Airline Company Travel Air, or ‘Mangi Lo Peles’ has sold some of its shares to another airline company in Indonesia.
Trans Global Investment has acquired 49 percent shares of Travel Air.
The new company is expected to operate airline services around PNG by September once all documents are certified by CASA PNG.

Australian e-immigration clearance starts (20.6.2016)
Holders of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region electronic passports can use the automated immigration clearance service (SmartGate) in Australia without prior enrolment and free of charge as from today.
Hong Kong has implemented a mutual use of automated clearance services with the country. Under this reciprocal arrangement, holders of an Australian passport can enrol for the e-Channel service in Hong Kong free of charge
The Immigration Department said the arrangement allows for greater travel convenience for Hong Kong residents and Australian visitors, and boosts trade, business and tourism links between the two places.
HKSAR electronic passport holders aged 16 or above, who have no adverse record in Australia and hold a valid visa for visiting the country, can use the SmartGate service at the international airports in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, the Gold Coast and Perth.
Travellers can place their electronic passport onto the passport reader at the SmartGate self-service kiosk at the airport to get a ticket. They can then bring along the SmartGate ticket and the electronic passport to the arrival gate for identity verification. Upon verification, they should proceed through the arrival gate and return the completed incoming passenger card and the ticket to local staff to complete the arrival procedures.
In addition, holders of the HKSAR passport, including the non-e-passport, who are over 1.2 metres tall, can also use the departure SmartGate service at the international airports in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Darwin, the Gold Coast and Perth.
The Australian government is planning to extend the departure SmartGate service to all its major international airports.
