Malvern Hills AONB in the UK ????????
Malvern Hills
____________
The Malvern Hills are a range of hills in the English counties of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and a small area of northern Gloucestershire, dominating the surrounding countryside and the towns and villages of the district of Malvern. The highest summit of the hills affords a panorama of the Severn Valley with the hills of Herefordshire and the Welsh mountains, parts of thirteen counties, the Bristol Channel, and the cathedrals of Worcester, Gloucester and Hereford.
They are known for their spring water – initially made famous by the region's many holy wells, and later through the development of the 19th-century spa town of Great Malvern, a process which culminated in the production of the modern bottled drinking water.
The Malvern Hills have been designated as a biological and geological Site of Special Scientific Interest and as National Character Area 103 by Natural England and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty by the Countryside Agency (now Natural England). The SSSI notification has 26 units of assessment which cover grassland, woodland and geological sites. The site (The Malvern Hills SSSI (Chase End Hill)) is listed in the 'Forest of Dean Local Plan Review' as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS).
Management of the hills is the responsibility of the Malvern Hills Trust.
Simon Jenkins rates the view of the Wye Valley and across the Severn Vale to the Cotswolds as one of the top ten in England.

Cotswold Walks Chipping and Broad Campden
A Cotswold Walk in Chipping Campden is ideal for anyone who loves a day out in the Cotswolds but doesn't like crowds. It has everything to provide interest and sustenance for the day. This is a working village with some 'proper' shops selling groceries as well as local hostelries and pubs to feed and shelter you, along with a rich history. Sir Baptist Hicks built a fine mansion here adjacent to the church of St James, unfortunately it was burnt to the ground by Royalist Soldiers to prevent its use by the Roundheads that were hot on their heels. In his time Sir Baptist did a lot for Chipping Campden including the erection of the market hall for the use of local traders. Another fellow who was instrumental in the prosperity of the village was William Grevel who built a magnificent town house in the high street in 1360, and was influential in relocating the Arts and Craft Guild from London to here at a time when the wool trade was in decline and thereby providing an alternative revenue stream.
The beauty of the honey coloured Cotswold stone buildings speaks for itself and on the outskirts of town the period and thatched cottages adds icing to the cake. As if that wasn't enough this visit included a walk to Broad Campden a mile or so to the south. Whilst not having the same scale or amenities as its neighbour, it is never the less a delightful Cotswold village and well worth the little extra distance to walk.

Old Nailsworth Branch Railway Mainline Station Site
Looking for the old Nailsworth branch line railway station at Stonehouse was always going to be difficult since it closed in 1947, however Google Earth showed a promising corridor of trees and there was a pedestrian crossing of the railway in the area so there was some hope. This was increased when arriving at Stonehouse the first thing we came across an information board, detailing the transport links in the area of which or railroad was one. Being sure of the location was one thing, but finding a non-existent station was still going to be difficult. The saving grace was the over bridge which enabled us to get a high level view of the site, and enabled us with the help of an old photo, to piece together the general layout.
Having achieved a reasonable result, and then just setting out to have one more look about, it was amazing to find the old station masters house still standing after all these years, at the end of the goods yard. This enables us to surmise on the probable whereabouts of the station itself, as the house being located next to the main line, would almost certainly have formed part of the complex. This being the mainline station, and knowing that this was connected to the branch line station by a walkway, we could determine the area it stood in. Now alas covered in a new housing development. Probably we should be glad that we found what we did, which included old rails still in situ, taking us back to the days of steam trains and rail history.

34046 'Braunton' - The Welsh Borders - 17/05/14
New ground for West Country Class no.34046 'Braunton', as she hauls the 'Welsh Borders' railtour from Bristol to Worcester and back. Repeating last year's run with sister locomotive, 34067 'Tangmere', Braunton would take the train up to Gloucester via the Midland Mainline, turn, and take the train on to Worcester via Kemble and Oxford. Braunton would later return the train to Bristol via Hereford and, unlike last year's run, via the Severn Tunnel.
With the rather elongated route and plenty of stop along the way, it was possible to get at least seven shots of the trip. As with most trips, the weather predictions were wrong, as the cloud was replaced with wall to wall sunshine, which made for one of the hottest days of the year so far!
The first shot sees Braunton tackling the first of several climbs throughout the day, Horfield Bank, out of Bristol. One of the only occasions during the day where it was cool enough to get a decent bit of exhaust. Next we see the Bulleid speeding through Haresfield, passing the foot crossing near the Beacon Hotel. Having turned at Gloucester, it was time for the second major climb of the day, Sapperton Bank, which Braunton ascends with ease as she passes Frampton Mansell. Back up to speed now, as she is seen racing along the Great Western Mainline, at Compton Beauchamp.
After a quick pitstop at home, and a change into more appropriate clothes for the heat, we made our way to Broad Campden, where Braunton is seen speeding along the Cotswold Line towards Chipping Campden Tunnel, after taking a brief look at the Great Western Arms in Blockley, just up the road. As Malvern Wells was so good for last year's run with Tangmere, I decided to return for the this year's, although I thought I'd try one of the spots slightly further down the line. So the first return working shot sees Braunton climbing up the 1 in 80 towards Colwall Tunnel, and in fine style too!
How about a shot at sunset to end the video? Well that's what we got at Pilning, as Braunton accelerates hard up the climb from Severn Tunnel Junction, bringing an end to a fantastic day's chasing, even better than last year's!
Filmed on a Panasonic HS900 with a Pro Sound L92AA microphone.
Enjoy.
