Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway Part 1, September 2019
Traveling up to Cheltenham Spa station, I change onto a bus for the short journey through Cheltenham to the Racecourse, where after a short walk through the grounds I arrive at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway's Cheltenham Racecourse station. Collecting my ticket I take a look around the station whilst awaiting for my train to arrive. Shortly afterwards GWR Modified Hall 7903 'Foremarke Hall' arrives with a service from Toddington. With our locomotive running round we jump on board for a journey along one of my favourite steam railways in the country, travelling from Cheltenham Racecourse non-stop through Gotherington and Greet Tunnel, a pause at Winchcombe and on to Broadway via Toddington. At Broadway, 7903 'Foremarke Hall' runs round again, and taking my position at the front of the train return to Toddington, where Part 1 concludes.
Part 2 will be uploaded next Monday at 1800, hit subscribe to make sure you don't miss any!

Caledonian Railway Class 439 0-4-4T (Scottish Railway Preservation Society) failed in the days leading up the event and after a repair was on light duties at Winchcombe operating a demonstration freight train. Late in the day she took her last booked duty to Broadway, but after this run the decision was made she would return to light duties for the rest of the weekend.
Also in operation were GWR Collet King Class 4-6-0 6023 King Edward II (Great Western Society, Didcot) and LNER Thompson B1 4-6-0 1264 (Thompson B1 Locomotive Trust/NYMR) and from the home fleet GWR 4-6-0 7903 Foremarke Hall, GWR 2-8-0 2807, GWR 2-8-0T 4270, GWR 4-6-0 7820 Dinmore Manor and SR 4-6-2 35006 Peninsular & Oriental S. N. Co.
An intensive four train service ran from Cheltenham Racecourse to Broadway and we also have a look at the locomotives returning to shed at Toddington at the end of the day.

Cotswold Festival Of Steam 2018 Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway
One of the biggest events for the steam enthusiast is the Cotswold Festival of Steam held annually on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR). This film features action from day 1 Saturday 26th May.
The theme this year was Give My Regards to Broadway celebrating the recent opening of their new Broadway Station and also commemorating the 50th anniversary of the ending of steam on British Railways.
The film begins with 2807 arriving at Cheltenham and then departing from Gotherington where we see a pump trolley in action. In very foggy conditions we see King Edward 6023 and 5197 double heading with 35006 near Gotherington. We then see a number of traction engines at Toddington with the fairground organ before a look at Toddington Narrow Gauge Railway with 1091 built in 1918 in action. As the sun came out the action moves to Broadway with 6430 and a routemaster bus before we see a number of arrivals and departures from Toddington including double header 7820/7903. With the arrival of the sun the crowds descended which led to a few delays to the timetable but credit to all the staff in ensuring the trains and everything else ran smoothly. Then it is back to Cheltenham on board King Edward to see late afternoon departures of 70013 and 7820/6023 and 5197 at Southam Lane Bridge.
It turned out to be a fantastic day full of action with no less than 4 guest locomotives visiting to supplement the 4 home locomotives running. The staff and volunteers at the GWSR must be congratulated for all their efforts in giving us such a memorable day of enjoyment which you can hopefully see from the footage. With so much to see and do I needed more than a day to see everything going on at all the stations.
Guest locomotives in action:-
King class no. 6023 King Edward II
British Railways Britannia class no. 70013 Oliver Cromwell.
United States Army Transportation Corps class 160, no. 5197.
Great Western Railway ‘pannier’ tank locomotive no. 6430
Home locomotives in action:-
Great Western Railway locomotive, no. 2807
Hall class no. 7903 Foremarke Hall
Manor class no. 7820 Dinmore Manor
Southern Railway express locomotive no. 35006 Peninsular & Oriental SN Co;
I hope you enjoy the action which gives a flavour of what was happening . Please feel free to like and comment and subscribe to my channel. Many thanks if you are already a subscriber. Thank you for watching. Check out the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway website for details of a great family day out well worth visiting at
Finally it was a really memorable occasion and for me the star was the American 5197 with her unique whistle which you couldn't help but notice even after she had long passed through. But King Edward and the other guests were all star performers in their own right.
Take a journey on a stream train on new Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway line | ITV News
Ever wanted to ride on a steam train? Here's a birds-eye view of the newly opened line that links Cheltenham Racecourse with Broadway in Worcestershire.
The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway raised millions in donations to complete the fifteen mile section of line, and also rebuilt the Victorian railway station from scratch - as an almost exact replica - so steam trains can make the trip there on a newly opened line.

Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway - 'Cotswold Festival of Steam' 25/05/2019
The 'Cotswold Festival of Steam' has earned its place as a highly regarded event on the Gala-Calendar over recent years. This years rendition, held over the 25th-27th of May, paid testimony to this as the Gala brought together various locomotive designs; including designs of the Southern Railway (SR), London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) as well as the Great Western Railway (GWR)
In keeping with 'Festival of Steam' tradition, the event was run under a theme - this year being Northern Soul; echoing the origins of two of the visiting locomotives to the event: B1 Class - 1264, and 439 Class - 419. The event would see no fewer than 8 steam locomotives gracing the metals of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, working the full current line length of 15 miles between Cheltenham Racecourse and Broadway.
Also making a return visit for this year, 6023 King Edward II will be staying at the railway for the duration of the Summer months, courtesy of the Didcot Railway Centre.
Locomotives:
Ex-SR Rebuilt 'Merchant Navy' Class - 35006 Peninsular & Oriental S.N. Co.
GWR 2800 Class - 2807
GWR 4200 Class - 4270
BR(W) 7800 'Manor' Class - 7820 Dinmore Manor
LNER B1 Class - 1264
BR(W) 6959 Modified 'Hall' Class - 7903 Foremarke Hall
Ex-GWR 6000 'King' Class - 6023 King Edward II
Rounding-off the visiting trio, Caledonian Railway's 439 Class - 419, made its debut visit to the Cotswolds as part of the 419's' on-going UK tour. Due to the locomotive failing with a hot bearing a couple of days before the gala, 419 was limited to light shunting manoeuvres around Winchcombe for most of the day - as such, the locomotive doesn't feature in this video.
All footage filmed on Saturday the 25th of May 2019.

Your support is much appreciated, thanks also for your kind comments.Best wishes from Chris and Rosie.
On this visit to the GWR it happened to be the food & drink event and was very busy,on our return trip from Cheltenham it was standing room only hence not many shots from that trip.
All the video is filmed hand held,so please excuse the odd camera shake.
It was nice to travel on the extension to Broadway something we have been looking forward too. This section of the line seems very popular.

One visitor was Collet 14xx no. 1450 accompanied by auto-trailer no. As of last years event, the 14 coach evening train went ahead on the Saturday evening with 7903 ‘Foremarke Hall’ on the southbound trip and 35006 ‘Peninsular & Oriental SN Co’ on the northbound trip. All three rakes of mk1’s were in constant use throughout the gala between Toddington and Cheltenham Racecourse with some services being top and tailed up to the extended northern limit of the running line at Little Buckland allowing an eight mile round trip from Toddington. During the gala 14xx No.1450 and auto trailer no. W238 ‘Chaffinch' operated shuttle services up to Little Buckland and also ventured up to Cheltenham Racecourse for one round trip each day. Platform two at Cheltenham Racecourse was used for the first time in public which allowed two trains to be present at the station making it much busier and allowing passengers to change trains.

September 2017.
