WILD CAMPING SNOWDONIA | Cwm Idwal, Afon Lloer Room Overlooking Tryfan (Glyderau)
Took my friend, Nathalee, on her first proper hike and wild camp. Here’s our first of 4 days in Snowdonia National Park.
Made a quick stop in Conwy as it’s Nathalee’s first time in North Wales.
My friend, Rob, kindly drove us to Ogwen Cottage where we started our hike. Explored Cwm Idwal in the Ogwen Valley for a bit then made our way towards Pen Yr Ole Wen, walking along Llyn Ogwen and stopping off somewhere by Afon Lloer to wild camp for the night.

UK National Park Snowdonia
Snowdonia is a mountainous region in northwestern Wales and a national park of 823 square miles in area.
It was the first to be designated of the three national parks in Wales, in 1951.
It contains the highest peaks in the United Kingdom outside of Scotland.
The English name for the area derives from Snowdon, which is the highest mountain in Wales at 3560 ft .
In Welsh, the area is named Eryri.
A commonly held belief is that the name is derived from eryr , and thus means 'the abode/land of eagles', but recent evidence is that it means Highlands, and is related to the Latin oriri as leading Welsh scholar Sir Ifor Williams proved
The term Eryri first appeared in a manuscript in the 9th-century Historia Brittonum, in an account of the downfall of the semi-legendary 5th-century king Gwrtheyrn
In the Middle Ages the title Prince of Wales and Lord of Snowdonia was used by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd; his grandfather Llywelyn Fawr used the title Prince of north Wales and Lord of Snowdonia.
Before the boundaries of the national park were designated, Snowdonia was generally used to refer to a smaller area, namely the upland area of northern Gwynedd centred on the Snowdon massif, whereas the national park covers an area more than twice that size extending far to the south into Meirionnydd.
This is apparent in books published prior to 1951, such as the classic travelogue Wild Wales by George Borrow and The Mountains of Snowdonia by H. Carr & G. Lister .
F. J. North, as editor of the book Snowdonia , states When the Committee delineated provisional boundaries, they included areas some distance beyond Snowdonia proper.
The traditional Snowdonia thus includes the ranges of Snowdon and its satellites, the Glyderau, the Carneddau, the Moelwynion and the Moel Hebog group.
It does not include the hills to the south of Maentwrog.
As Eryri , this area has a unique place in Welsh history, tradition and culture.
Snowdonia National Park was established in 1951 as the third national park in Britain, following the Peak District and the Lake District.
It covers 827 square miles , and has 37 miles of coastline.
The Snowdonia National Park covers parts of the counties of Gwynedd and Conwy.
The park is governed by the Snowdonia National Park Authority, which is made up of local government and Welsh representatives, and its main offices are at Penrhyndeudraeth.
Unlike national parks in other countries, Snowdonia is made up of both public and private lands under central planning authority.
The makeup of land ownership at Snowdonia is as follows: More than 26,000 people live within the park.
58.6% of the population could speak Welsh in 2011
While most of the land is either open or mountainous land, there is a significant amount of agricultural activity within the park.
Since the local government re-organisation of 1998, the park lies partly in the county of Gwynedd, and partly in the county borough of Conwy.
It is governed by the 18-member Snowdonia National Park Authority; nine members are appointed by Gwynedd, 3 by Conwy, and the remaining six by the National Assembly for Wales to represent the national interest
Unusually, Snowdonia National Park has a hole in the middle, around the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, a slate quarrying centre.
This was deliberately excluded from the park when it was set up to allow the development of new light industry to replace the reduced slate industry.
The Snowdonia Society is a registered charity formed in 1967.
It is a voluntary group of people with an interest in the area and its protection.
Amory Lovins led the successful 1970s opposition to stop Rio Tinto digging up the area for a massive mine.
Research indicates that there were 3.67 million visitors to Snowdonia National Park in 2013, with approximately 9.74 million tourist days spent in the park during that year.
Total tourist expenditure was £433.6 million in 2013.
Snowdonia may be divided into four areas: The northernmost area is the most popular with tourists, and includes Moel Hebog, Mynydd Mawr and the Nantlle Ridge; the Snowdon Massif; the Glyderau; and the Carneddau.
These last three groups are the highest mountains in Wales, and include all Wales' mountains higher than 3000 feet.
The second area includes peaks such as Moel Siabod, Cnicht, the Moelwynion, and the mountains around Blaenau Ffestiniog.
The third area includes the Rhinogydd in the west as well as the Arenig and the Migneint , and Rhobell Fawr.

Walking & Driving through Snowdonia National Park captured with a GoPro Hero 4 Black, Canon Powershot & Nextbase Dashcam.
Snowdonia National Park is well placed to serve so many activities: A gentle walk with the dog, a challenging mountainous trek, a pleasant little drive through the countryside, cycling, horse riding, fishing the list goes on. If you are an outdoors kind of a person, there will almost certainly be an activity here for you. Don't fancy lugging all of your gear up Snowdon? Get the train up instead but beware it is not cheap! For me, a drive, a walk around and getting into some good and unusual spots to do some camera pointing is enough :)
Interesting thing about this place is the way the light falls around the mountains especially at near dawn and dusk. Photographers will simply love this place as the shame shot from the same angle will look different each day because the light will be different each day.
The park features around 45 mountains including Snowdon (The highest peak) and some of the others worthy of mention are Tryfan, Cadair Idris, Garnedd Ugain, Y Lliwedd, Carnedd Dafydd, Elidir Fawr, Mynydd Mawr, Carnedd Llewelyn, Glyderau, Snowdon Massif, Carneddau and the Nantlle Ridge.
There are activity centres & places to eat and stay dotted around the place. Best advice I can give is to plan your journey and activities and make sure you tell someone where you are going. Take emergency provisions with you and make sure your mobile phone is fully charged and with you!

Walk Scramble and Climb Snowdonia - Trailer
One of my favourite Snowdon wild camping spots in SPECTACULAR but cold Snowdonia Weather
Snowdonia National Park camping trip over Crib Goch and Snowdon in Snowdonia Wales UK. I I was treated to some really special Snowdonia weather. Hiking up the Pyg Track from the Pen-Y-Pass car park before turning off and climbing Crib Goch on what turned out to be an incredible day of sunshine and low cloud. I wandered around the ridge for a few hours, eating, taking timelapse videos and talking about stuff.... before finding a place for wild camping and settling down for the night. This is probably one of my favourite snowdonia wild camping spots
After an icy cold night I did a bit more talking and eating and headed back to the car....! Hope you enjoy it.
I've been making a few VLOGs to talk about what I eat, what I do and how I've got (and keep) fit eating a whole foods plant based vegan diet. Let me know what you think by liking, subscribing or commenting. Thanks!

Riding in U.K. #7 (Snowdonia National Park, Wales)

Filmed for O2 UK during a fundraiser for the #NSPCC. This video showcases Tryfan, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach. This video was captured in April 2019 using the DJI Spark Drone and edited using Adobe Premiere Pro.
Tryfan is a mountain in the Ogwen Valley, Snowdonia, Wales. It forms part of the #Glyderau group, and is one of the most famous and recognisable peaks in Britain.
Glyder Fawr is the highest peak in the Glyderau range at just over 1,000 metres, having had its height recalculated in 2010 using GPS. It is the fifth-highest mountain in Wales and has several walking and scrambling routes leading to its summit.
Glyder Fach is the second highest of the Glyderau and the sixth highest in Wales. Routes to the summit lead from Tryfan and Bristly Ridge to the north, via Glyder Fawr from Pen-y-Pass to the south, and along the Glyder ridge to the east, towards Capel Curig.
