Koh Rong Scuba Diving, Cambodia #5
Our 4th day in Koh Rong and we went scuba diving with Koh Rong Dive Center, based in Koh Touch village. We did two boat dives, both of which were fairly shallow, under 10 meters.
This was our last day on Koh Rong before we headed back to the Cambodia mainland to Sihanoukville, so finished the day off with a bit of time on the beach.
Pristine & Untouched Corals of Koh Rong, Cambodia - Divelog #1
Despite not knowing how to swim, not long ago I decided to take the plunge (no pun intended) and get my diving license and ever since then I have been trying to get a few dives wherever I go. Unlike its neighbour Thailand, Cambodia is not widely known for its dive sites and there are only a few reputable dive shops in the entire country. The sea off the coast of Cambodia is also relatively unexplored, but local diving pioneers have discovered two areas that offer incredible diving experiences.
Skip diving off Koh Rong and head for the islands of Koh Prins and Koh Tang, 6 hours away from Sihanoukville by boat, which offer the best diving one can have in Cambodia. These islands are spared the rapid development taking that is taking over Sihanoukville, thanks to their remote location and because very few divers ever make it out here, they have retained their pristine corals and healthy populations of marine life.
Because they are so far away from the nearest port, the only way to truly explore Koh Prins and Koh Tang is by doing a liveaboard, and given the relatively underdeveloped diving industry in Cambodia you won’t have many choices. Lucky for us we chose an excellent company in Scuba Nation Cambodia, who has a long history of operating liveaboards to these islands. Our boat was simple but it had everything we needed, sleeping on the top deck under the stars was a unique experience in itself and our Divemaster Max was very professional and ensured we had a safe and fun time. You can find out more information about Scuba Nation Cambodia and their liveaboards here:

The islands of Cambodia are not that well known to the uninitiated, but they're very picturesque and far less developed than the popular Islands of Thailand.
Whether you're looking to party, relax or just want an underwater adventure amongst pristine coral reefs, then Cambodia's got an island for you!
In this video, we delve into Island life in Cambodia!
We take you on a journey to the 7 most intriguing Islands of Cambodia.
Here are the 7 amazing Islands of Cambodia!
1. Koh Rong.
Not that long ago, Koh Rong's only tourist amenities were a handful of bungalows and stretches of dense jungle and beautiful white sandy beaches.
It's still possible to find some solitude on the more remote parts of the island, but in the last few years, lots of cheap accommodation has been built and the place has become a backpacker haven.
Though Koh Rong is relatively undeveloped, it has become the go too spot for travellers who just want to relax on the beach by day, and party at night.
2. Koh Rong Sanloem.
Koh Rong Sanloem is a more chilled-out type of island.
There's not much to do on this island, but that's the point.
Days can be spent paddle-boarding, snorkelling or relaxing with a good book.
3. Song Saa.
The name of these two small private islands means sweethearts in the Khmer language.
It’s a luxury Island, with villa prices at the Song Saa Resort running as high as $3,000 per night.
The 24 villa resort, just off the coast of Koh Rong, offers Cambodia's most exclusive island experience, starting with a bottle of Champagne as soon as you check in.
4. Koh Thmei.
Koh Thmei is a great Island for nature, as it’s home to monkeys, civets, lizards, more than 100 different species of birds, and several threatened species, including the fishing cat, which is a wetland feline that makes its home near streams and mangrove forests.
The island has only one place to stay, Koh Thmei Resort, but in reality, it only has seven simple wooden bungalows, but it's eco-friendly and solar powered.
You can hike, bird-watch, snorkel or kayak.
There are nearby deserted beaches to visit, with occasional views of dolphins swimming along the coast.
5. Koh Ta Kiev.
Koh Ta Kiev is home to just a few rustic eco-resorts, and not much else, but what it lacks in amenities, it more than makes up for in charm.
Days on the island are filled with beachcombing, jungle walks and snorkelling.
Although there are generators on the island, once the sun goes down, Koh Ta Kiev goes almost completely dark.
You may be able to see bioluminescent plankton lighting up the water.
Although free camping is not allowed on the island, several of the resorts have tents, or will rent hammocks to those who prefer to fall asleep under the stars.
6. Koh Tang.
Koh Tang has crystal clear waters with awesome marine life!
Located about five hours from the mainland, Koh Tang was the site of a 1975 clash between US forces and the Khmer Rouge. It was the last official battle of the Vietnam War.
It is now uninhabited, except for a small outpost of Cambodian military personnel.
The clear coastal waters, with excellent visibility and undisturbed marine life, make it, and nearby Koh Prins, the perfect islands for diving.
7. Koh Totang.
Koh Totang is the island of choice for those who just want to totally disconnect from the world and do some serious relaxing.
This stunning island has just one place to stay, Nomads Land, which has only five bungalows.
Take a break from the Internet world and just unwind with nature.
There is no internet so make sure you take a good book.
So, there you have it.

Jungle trekking, waterfalls, bioluminescent plankton tours, kayaks or just beach bumming...This is our favorite island in Southeast Asia. Tips: Bring lots of bug spray to this island. It's inevitable you will get bit. (The mosquitos are bird sized)
These are our recommendations for your visit:
Where we stayed: The Beach Island Resort (communal dorms & private bungalows available)
Things to do:
Rent a kayak - $5/hour
Hike to lighthouse - free
Waterfall - free
Bioluminescent Plankton Tours - $15-$25 (we suggest not going because you can see the plankton from some of the beaches)

3 Things to Do In Koh Rong Samloem, Cambodia
Surely one of my favourite islands to date! Very laid back and peaceful (not many people too!). Only 3 things make it to this list because you should spend most of your time on the beach just chilling out :D
Koh Rong Samloem is the smaller of the Koh Rong islands off the coast of Sihanoukville in Cambodia. A fairly affordable beach getaway whilst in the country, surely something you should try to squeeze between the temple hopping in Siem Reap and shopping/sightseeing in Phnom Penh.
Should you need any tips while travelling to Koh Rong Samloem or anywhere else in Cambodia, feel free to DM me as I have stayed, worked & travelled around Cambodia for about 6 months.
Trying something slightly different here, so do leave some feedback in the comment section regarding my videography, editing as well as anything & everything in between!
