U.S. Marine Corps helicopters collide near Haleiwa Town, Hawaii – 12 people are missing - TomoNews
HALEIWA TOWN, HAWAII — The U.S. Marine Corps has confirmed reports that two CH-53 helicopters, each carrying six people, went missing off the coast of Hawaii's Oahu island Thursday night.
They said the aircraft are from Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463, Marine Aircraft Group 24, 1st MAW (Marine Air Wing) in Hawaii.
The U.S. Coast Guard was asked to provide assistance around 11:40 p.m. after witnesses heard a loud bang and saw a fireball in the sky. The Coast Guard determined it to be an in-air collision that occurred during a nighttime training mission.
Debris was found two-and-a-half miles north of Haleiwa beach. As of Friday morning, the search area has expanded to about 6 miles off the shore. Search efforts may be hampered by 30-40 foot waves off the north shore of Oahu. The story is still developing.

64 Foot Wave - Mike Parsons At Jaws Beach, Hawaii
Mike Parsons (born March 13, 1965, in California) is an american professional surfer and surfing coach.
Parsons was raised in Laguna Beach, California and began surfing when he was six-years-old. In 1983, he earned second place in the Junior Division of the United States Surfing Championships.
In 2001, Parsons was towed into a 66-foot wave at Cortes Bank, CA, for which he was awarded $66,000 the highest prize ever awarded in the history of professional surfing. This money was awarded by the Billabong XXL competition which paid tribute to the biggest waves ridden each year. Parsons also surfed a 64-foot wave during competition at the Jaws break on the north shore of Maui. It was filmed by helicopter and used as the opening scene of the 2003 film Billabong Odyssey. A usually uncredited clip of this sequence has gone on to become a viral video, attributed to a number of different surfers, locations, and in many cases, a Tsunami.
Parsons later broke his record on January 5, 2008, at Cortes Bank, when he was photographed surfing a wave that the Billabong XXL judged to be 77 feet, which put him in the Guinness Book of World Records, officially, for biggest wave ever surfed. Nearly 4 years later Garrett McNamara improved on this record with a 78-foot wave off Nazaré, Portugal on November 1, 2011.
In 2011, Parsons became the full-time coach for surfer Kolohe Andino.
On January 20, 2013, Parsons suffered a broken C7 vertebra in his neck and nearly drowned while surfing triple-overhead surf at Ocean Beach, a beach break in San Francisco, California. Parsons was able to return to surfing four months later.
Parsons was inducted into the Surfer's Hall of Fame in Huntington Beach, California in 2008.

A day in Hale'iwa north shore Hawaii
I took some video of out trip to the North Shore of Oahu to a little town called Hale' iwa. We visited XCEL surf shop which is a small company that makes high quality wet suits right in the basement of the store. (made in America) They actually make wet suits for a few high speed low drag military units on the island.
Then we get some shave ice at Aokis. We go to Aokis because my wife and her sister went to high school with the owner.
Then we take the kids to Ali'i beach park. The wave are small which is great for the kids and there were turtles feeding just a few feet away from the beach.
Not a bad way to spend a day in Hawaii.

Haleiwa Menehune Contest 2015
The Annual Haleiwa Menehune Contest brings together North Shore and Oahu families for a fun day at Ali'i Beach Park in Haleiwa. As a long running event, the roots run deep with many professional surfer parents like Pancho Sullivan, Shawn Briley, Fred Patacchia, and Joel Centeio all having surfed the event as a menehune themselves no watching their kids compete and have fun.

Kualoa: The Jungle Expedition Tour @ Kualoa Ranch
We jumped on board one of Kualoa Ranch’s custom built, 16 passenger jungle vehicles for a 90 minute tour that rumbled us through the Hawaiian rainforest along jungle trails, across isolated stream beds and powered up steep, bumpy hills. It was an adventurous and rugged Jungle Jeep tour deep into the beautiful Hakipu`u Jurassic rainforest. This lush and tropical valley was where many of the Jurassic World, Kong Skull Island and Jumanji scenes were filmed. We also saw the 800 year old ancient Hawaiian fishpond called the Moli’i Pond. It is listed on the US National Register of Historic Places. A glimpse of some of the areas used to shoot the new Ben Affleck movie was a bonus! At the end of the Jungle Expedition, we enjoyed Kualoa Ranch’s delicious smoked barbecue lunch. ???????????????????????????????? ???? ???? ????????????????????????????????

Insane RV Nomad Hawaii RTR Meet Up in Waimea Bay, Oahu
Today we did the RV impossible: several RV full time nomads met up at the North Shore of Oahu at Waimea Bay Beach Park here in Hawaii!
Since few full time RV nomads actually fly anywhere far, we thought that this RTR in Hawaii in 2018 would be epic, as only the die hard committed nomads with tenacity would be here to enjoy the best weather in the USA now in January!! The continental USA is freezing in the cold as we drink long board Hawaiian ale in the tropical breeze here in paradise! But we dared to buck the Quartzsite, Arizona trend to be here, so we must share in the rewards of the Aloha State!
We are enjoying the best weather here in Oahu, Hawaii. Tasty waves on the north shore at the Pipeline for all surfers (and those of us who like to watch) are here to bask in delight with. Winter is the time to see the best surf action on the north shore of the islands!
Shot 100% by Linescrew1 in and around the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
Catch more fun in the sun here in the Aloha State with RV Crazy as we enjoy the depth of winter in Hawaii.
Stay tuned!
And keep your wheels on the ground! Or your surf board on the surf! lol.

Waimea Valley Oahu, Hawaiian Culture, A Makahiki Celebration
- Waimea Valley, Hawaiian Culture, A Makahiki Celebration.
The Makahiki festival was celebrated in three phases. The first phase was a time of spiritual cleansing and making hoʻokupu, offerings to the gods. The Konohiki, a class of royalty that at this time of year provided the service of tax collector, collected agricultural and aquacultural products such as pigs, taro, sweet potatoes, dry fish, kapa and mats. Some offerings were in the form of forest products such as feathers. The Hawaiian people had no money or other similar medium of exchange. These were offered on the altars of Lono at heiau - temples - in each district around the island. Offerings also were made at the ahupuaʻa, stone altars set up at the boundary lines of each community.
All war was outlawed to allow unimpeded passage of the image of Lono. The festival proceeded in a clockwise circle around the island as the image of Lono (Akua Loa, a long pole with a strip of tapa and other embellishments attached) was carried by the priests. At each ahupuaʻa (each community also is called an ahupuaʻa) the caretakers of that community presented hoʻokupu to the Lono image, a fertility god who caused things to grow and who gave plenty and prosperity to the islands.
The second phase was a time of celebration: of hula dancing, of sports (boxing, wrestling, sliding on sleds, javelin marksmanship, bowling, surfing, canoe races, relays, and swimming), of singing and of feasting. One of the best preserved lava sled courses is the Keauhou Holua National Historic Landmark.[2]
In the third phase, the waʻa ʻauhau — tax canoe — was loaded with hoʻokupu and taken out to sea where it was set adrift as a gift to Lono.[3] At the end of the Makahiki festival, the chief would go off shore in a canoe. When he came back in he stepped on shore and a group of warriors threw spears at him. He had to deflect or parry the spears to prove his worthiness to continue to rule.

Hawaiian Storm 2 0 19
On Feb. 10, 2019, a major winter storm hit the Hawaiian islands with waves up to 60 feet high and gale force winds of up to 55 miles per hour, giving a spectacle to locals and tourists! Here are some images taken on the North Shore of Oahu.
Hawaii | Massive 50-foot Waves Rock Oahu's North Shore
Produced by Jim Albritton | A northwest swell pushing massive 50-foot waves onto Oahu's North Shore sent surfers ashore and onlookers to the ocean's edge to see the force of nature play out in a spectacular way. Some say the surf hasn't been this strong since 1969. From Shark's Cove to Waimea Bay, here's a look at the beauty and violence Mother Nature displayed on February 22, 2016. |
