This league final started with goal action and continued throughout in a terrific showcase for women's football as FCs Reds kept coming back at Bury and prevailed to lift their second cup in a season.
Jordan Bailey hit United early on, using her pace to give Bury a 3rd-minute lead, but FC fought back with another super strike from captain Kirsty Chambers to leave the final all square in the first quarter hour.
Ex-Red and current Bury skipper Lucy Golding put Bury back in to the lead with a pinpoint accurate free-kick, and one that they held for another 20 minutes.
Jess Battle was getting more involved in the showpiece game and after she found space, the striker pulled the ball back for Shellby Wolstencroft to coolly sidefoot United level with her 100th goal for the Reds.
The North division team hit back immediately with another goal from Golding to carry on the see-saw match. But the 1st-half action wasn't finished as Chambers got her second with a trademark exocet into the top corner.
After the break it was FCs time to go ahead and after more pacey wing work by Chloe Wild, the ball was centred to Battle and she out-muscled the defender and poked United into a 4-3 lead.
The Reds kept up the pressure and on 70 minutes it was Wild's turn to add her magic to the mix, when she received the ball on the sideline and eyeing up the far peg, she bent the ball round the keeper and scored off the inside of the post.
United and their cheering fans were now unstoppable, but the best moment was yet to come. Jade Parker had been running past defenders for fun, so it was apt that her interplay with Wolstencroft freed Parker on the wing to send in a cross that the centurian deftly headed over the Bury stopper for FCs sixth goal.
Five minutes later Bailey added another for Bury, but the 6-4 scoreline would stay until the end as the Reds bathed in a double cup victory that was a just reward for five months stewardship by head coach Luke Podmore.

World Black Pudding-Throwing Championships held in Ramsbottom
Hundreds gather on Sunday to watch the 2014 World Black Pudding-Throwing Championships in Ramsbottom in Bury, Greater Manchester. Participants competed by throwing black puddings at Yorkshire puddings on top of a raised plinth. The aim is to knock as many off the platform as possible. The event has its roots in the historic rivalry of the Houses of York and Lancaster in the 15th century

Biggest we have jumped in 6 months and she jumps out of her skin!!
we were 3rd in the professional speed class and also had a 3rd in the professional small tour (then winner, Phillip Miller was less than a second faster) even put in there (1,25 mins) where she was super after getting her a bit deep to the upright then pushing her for the 3 strides and she didn't make it and put 4 in :P
The other two classes we did she just had a fence- the 1.25 she had a fence in the jump off so I retired her as no point wasting her energy when we had a fence.
Then the 1.30 (ran a10 so was 1.30-1.40) she just had the very last fence down! unfortunately I cant get the video from the 1.30 off my camera- or even watch it on my camera so not sure if ill be able to save it which im a bit gutted about as other than the last fence she was perfect over a very technical well built course!! only 9 went into jump off, and only a few finishing on 4faults so pretty pleased to be a little amateur on my little horsey competing against the pros and coming away with placing's and not cricket scores :D
She is such an amazing horse!
USAF Band, In The Mood - Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
In June 2004 to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Allied D-Day Landings, the US 3rd Air Force were granted the freedom of the Borough of St Edmundsbury, Suffolk. In addition to a flypast by four F-15 Strike Eagles from RAF Lakenheath and the attendence of many WWII Veterans, the USAFE Band based in Germany were flown over especially for the occasion and gave a stirring performance on Angel Hill.
I had no idea they were going to be there so had made no provision to film it, but it didn't come out too bad considering. It certainly captures the atmosphere of the day very well. I can't help wonder when the last time a US military marching band strode into Bury St Edmunds playing the theme tune of the Army Air Corps 'Off we go into the Wild Blue Yonder,' if ever. In WWII the USAAF 94th Bomb Group were based at nearby Rougham and many GI's of the Eighth Air Force would have spent many of their off duty hours in the town. It certainly was nostalgic hearing the military music played live in the streets for all to enjoy.
