Ep.2 -- A Fishing Shrine // Riding In Cars With Kupunas - Dawn Wasson
Dawn Wasson of Laie talks about one of the ancient fishing shrines in the area. This one is located at Malaekahana State Park at Kalanai Point, which extends toward Mokuauia (AKA Goat Island).
Fishing shrines are ancient sites found in various places around the Hawaiian Islands. They are always located near water and, while most other religious sites were disused or destroyed in the 19th century, fishing shrines were known to still be used locally well into the 20th century. The shrine shown in this video is one of them.
Fishing shrines were typically simple structures, often consisting of a flat stone. Each shrine was purposed for the offering of certain types of fish. The shrine in this video was for the offering of 'o'io (bonefish), wahanui (jobfish), and kala (unicorn fish), all of which were common to this area.
Dawn Wasson learned of the fishing shrines in the Laie area by interviewing fishermen who have since passed.

The Most Dangerous Hike in Oahu
Pu’u Manamana is a mountain on the east side of Oahu that the rock formation called Crouching Lion sits on. (“Pu’u” by the way, means “hill” or “mount.”) The trail takes you straight up the front of the mountain and along the top ridge. It has the reputation for being one of the most dangerous hikes on the island and has claimed many lives.

COUNTDOWN to SUNNY and MOONY SHOTS - Barber's Point Hawaii
Making this short video clip with rapid sequencing of pics in sync with quality music makes up for the sloppy point-and-shoot camera work and poor quality of each individual pics....and since I'm very lazy this is an easier and faster way to process.....ha, ha....check it out at the highest resolution setting!!!....
These pics were taken during a photo meetup group session named I Wanna Shoot So Badly on Facebook, and the The O'ahu Photography Meetup Group. We usually end most of our sessions with a nice dinner/lunch/breakfast somewhere, hence the foodie pic at the end.....come and join us if you can......

Ka'ena Point
Kaʻena or Kaʻena Point is the westernmost tip of land on the island of Oʻahu. The point can be reached by foot from both the south (Waiʻanae Coast) and the north (Mokulēʻia) coastlines; walking in from the north side is recommended. An unimproved track extends some three miles along the coast from the end of the paved road on the north side, where a gate prevents entry of all except authorized vehicles.
Walk Through Malaekahana
Malaekahana has opened for overnight camping however is still under development for the majority of the campground areas but anticipate most areas being completed within a month or two's time.
