Whangateau Motorcamp
This is the holiday park at Whangateau (Fonga-tee-ow!) :-)
A lovely spot around 13 minutes drive out from the main road at Warkworth. Lovely at this time of year and probably late summer when the bulk of campers have diffused. I took a leisurely row in the camp dingy, around the bay. Just magic.
Pakiri Beach and regional park
New Zealand’s one of the beautiful white sand beach. It’s about 70 km far from Auckland. Take State Highway 1 north to Orewa. Follow directions to Whangarei. Continue up SH1 to Warkworth where you turn right at the lights and follow signs to Leigh and Goat Island Marine Reserve. Go past the Goat Island Marine Reserve turn off and continue over the hill.

Peacocks and zebras on Kawau Island - Roadside Stories
Once mined for its copper, Kawau Island was owned by Governor George Grey from the 1860s. A collector of exotic plants and animals, Grey imported deer, kangaroos, peacocks, zebras, monkeys and other species to the island. Today his Mansion House is part of a historic reserve.
