Goat Rock Beach - Russian River - Jenner, CA - 01/10/2016
The mouth of the Russian River after a few days of El Nino rains. Great to see a good quantity of water coming down again. Low tide is just beginning. Nice rip currents in the mouth as the river meets the incoming waves. Lots of feeding going on in those churning waters. Sorry for the shake. Video was taken with a DSLR and zooming isn't as smooth with that lens.

Goat Rock Beach is a sand beach in northwestern Sonoma County, California, United States. This landform is a sub-unit of Sonoma Coast State Beach, owned and managed by the State of California. At the northern terminus of Goat Rock Beach is the mouth of the Russian River, and the southern end of this crescent shaped expanse is the massive Goat Rock, an iconic outcrop of the Sonoma Coast, which is barely attached to the mainland by a narrow isthmus.

For three decades the Jenner Inn has enjoyed a reputation as an outstanding destination for romantic getaways, honeymoons and weddings, located on the magnificent Sonoma Coast within minutes of America's premier wine country. After 35 years, Jenner Inn is under new ownership! Rooms are being updated and the bar & restaurant are being reborn!
In 1948 the original hotel with its general store, post office (and pool hall) was destroyed by fire. It was replaced by a one-of-a-kind redwood structure with galleon windows, wheel beamed ceilings and solid oak floors, built by Swedish boat builders. It was and still is a favorite stop for abalone divers fishing the rich rocky waters just north of Jenner.
There are two natural vortices of spiritual energy in Jenner. One is a tremendous power produced by the confluence of two great bodies of water, the Russian River and the Pacific Ocean. The other is a hidden place in the Inn's Meadow, where the high hills of the Jenner Gulch converge. Spring-fed Jenner Creek tumbles over huge boulders as it bursts out of the hills, and a meditation bench is perched on a high creek bank above the cascading waters.
Activities abound to fulfill your memorable Coastal getaway. Sonoma Wine Country is home to world-class wines from the Russian River, Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys; many delicious wineries are waiting to be discovered by you. Hikes, Bikes, Swims, Dancing, Meditating and more are here:

Fort Ross State Historic Park - Jenner, California
Fort Ross State Historic Park, one of the oldest parks in the California State Park System, was established in 1906. Located on the Sonoma coast 11 miles northwest of Jenner on Highway 1, the 3,386-acre park preserves North America’s southernmost Russian settlement. The Fort Ross Colony was founded in 1812 by members of the Russian-American Company, who built it with the help of Alaskan Alutiiq natives. (source:
The Sonoma Coast
The Sonoma Coast AVA is an American Viticultural Area in Sonoma County, California, United States containing more than 500,000 acres, mostly along the coastline of the Pacific Ocean. It extends from San Pablo Bay to the border with Mendocino County.
The appellation is known for its cool climate and high rainfall relative to other parts of Sonoma County. The area has such a broad range of microclimates that petitions have been made to the United States Department of the Treasury Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau for the creation of sub-AVAs such as the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, which was approved in December 2011.
This took about a weekend plus three different take off points to accurately capture the Sonoma Coast and Bodega Head.

Some footage from our recent trip to the Pacific Coast, near Jenner, California, and featuring seals who call this area home. Please note, we are animal lovers and were extremely cautious to not alarm the seals... Some of them took notice of our drone, but none were alarmed or in any way concerned. We stuck around after our flight and watched them settle down for the evening, quite relaxed and comfy.
