Mongolia Gobi Desert - 8 day tour in Mongolia ????

MONGOLIA: GOBI DESERT: SEVERE COLD
Keyword-weather
English/Nat
As bitter winds sweep through Mongolia's barren pastures and temperatures drop to minus 45 Celsius (minus 49 Fahrenheit), tens of thousands of families are forced to watch their cattle die from the severe cold.
Having lost so much of their livestock, Mongolians are now relying on international aid to save them from starvation and cold.
At least four people have died of cold, and officials warn the disaster will worsen this spring.
First there were droughts in the summer and now Mongolians from the Gobi Desert are enduring bitterly cold and snowy conditions.
Extreme weather conditions that have gripped parts of Mongolia have caused more than 44,500 households to lose some 850,000 head of livestock.
The animals represent their main means of survival.
The Red Cross appealed earlier in the week for 815,000 Swiss francs (510,000 (U-S) dollars) for emergency food and clothing.
One herdsman who lost 80 percent of his cattle and horses said he had to burn some of the supports from his ger, the round Mongolian tent his family of six lives in, to keep warm.
Standing alongside piles of dead sheep dragged from nearby pastures to be skinned, herdsmen complain they do not have the money to replace their livestock.
The herdsmen's main staples are meat and dairy products.
They buy vegetables with money they earn from the sale of their animals.
Dung from livestock is burned for heating.
SOUNDBITE: (Mongolian)
We are worrying about people now. We are concerned at first about the livestock but we lost so many of them that we now worry about how the people will survive and keep themselves alive.
SUPERCAPTION: Mr Urchin, Local Red Cross representative
Casualties are difficult to assess because of the sheer enormity of Mongolia and because many of its inhabitants live in very remote areas.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
They need the humanitarian help and assistance and the psychological support because people are actually
physically and psychologically very much exhausted.
SUPERCAPTION: Samdan-Dobji Rabdangyn, Mongolian Red Cross Secretary General
According to officials at the United Nations Development Program in Mongolia's capital, UlaanBaatar, the toll on human lives will only become apparent with the coming of spring.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
So if there is no assistance from outside and the international community, probably the Mongolian herdsmen and the countryside people will face a lot of problems and a lot of poor and vulnerable people will appear and it will create a big problem for the Mongolian people.

Poor herdsmen who have no horses, camels, or vehicles are forced to search for their dead or weakened animals on foot.
Snow covers many areas and in other areas the wind sweeps the ground bare.
Vultures, crows, and dogs feed on piles of livestock carcasses.
Temperatures have dropped to minus 45 Celsius (minus 49 Fahrenheit), and Red Cross officials say the extreme cold is expected to last for three more months.

00 02 First there were droughts in the summer - now Mongolian herdsmen from the Gobi Desert are enduring an exceptionally hard winter.
Sheep, goats, cattle and horses are dying in their thousands.
0 13 Aid agencies estimate that some forty four thousand families have lost nearly eight hundred and fifty thousand animals.
00 20 Some relief supplies are getting through with trucks of hay providing vital extra food for the animals.
And their survival is crucial to these herdsmen
Not only is the animals' milk and meat their main source of food, but their dung is burned for heating. and some are sold to buy much needed vegetables.
One herdsman, who lost 80 percent of his cattle and horses, said he burned some of the supports from his ger, the round tent his family lives in, just to keep warm.
00 50 The severity of this winter's prompted the Red Cross to launch an appeal for emergency food and clothing.

01 17 But the sheer size of Mongolia is making the relief effort difficult to organise.
The true cost of this harsh winter won't be known until spring and that's still three months away.

Gobi nomads fear desert mega mine
The southern Gobi desert in Mongolia was one of the world's last great wildernesses with its cold desert of vast plains and wide roaming herds. Today it is the centre of the planet's greatest resource boom. But this has started to have a detrimental effect on nomad communities, as Jonathan Watts reports

Mongolia Adventure touring Ulaanbaatar, Gobi Desert Ger Camps, Ulglii and Ölgii
In this video we tour the beautiful country of Mongolia, starting in Ulaanbaatar then flying to Gurvan Saikhan Airport to travel the Gobi desert where we visited three different Ger Camps - the Dream Gobi Lodge, Gobi Erdene Camp and the Nomad Gobi Lodge, all amazing camps with gourmet food and great accommodations. We climbed the 1,000' Khongor sand dune, rode camels and went hiking in the Yolyn Am Canyon. We flew to Ulglii (also pronounced Olgii) where we then drove up into the high country (12,000') and stayed with a Mongolian eagle hunting family in their Gers, experiencing their culture. Then back to Ulaanbaatar where we toured the city and surrounding countryside and went to the Naadam Festival which is their yearly Olympics. All in all, it was an amazing experience that I wanted to share with you.

Hello Guys,
In this video, I have shared the experience of Hitchhiking in the longest sand dunes of Gobi Desert ( Khongoryn Els or Khongor Sand dunes ). It was the craziest experience of my life, we started hitchhiking from Sevri at 11:00 Pm after that, we walked for almost 12 Kilometers to reach there. During all this process we ran out of the water & after so much of struggle & hassle, we found it :)
