Crossing the Gigantic Godavari River at Rajahmundry: Howrah Trichy Superfast with Itarsi WAM4
One of the most spectacular river bridges designed by the Indian Railways can be found to the south of the town of Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh. The teeming Godavari river, nearly 3 km wide at this point, is crossed via two independent bridges. There is a third bridge which was built in the late 19th century but is now decommissioned. Our train, the 12663 Howrah Tiruchirapalli Express crosses the river through the rail-cum-road bridge. The train curves beautifully into the bridge and also embarks on a huge curve on its way out, giving a full view of the length of the train, and the lovely red Itarsi WAM4 in charge of it. Courtesy being near the Godavari delta and on the last legs of 1400+ km journey from the western ghats in Maharashtra, the river itself is replete with water, an year round feature not restricted only to the months of monsoon, making it seem like a sea on occasions.

Visakhapatnam-Rajahmundry and Godavari River: Indian Railways in Andhra Pradesh:
A day trip through coastal Andhra Pradesh from Visakhapatnam to Tadepalligudem and back, in the company of Pramit Mitra from Kolkata. We had arrived at Visakhapatnam aboard the Dhanbad Alleppey Express, had reservations till Vijayawada, and decided to continue till as far as we could get in the afternoon. We finally reached Tadepalligudem and realized that the Konark Express was 20 minutes away, hopped off, purchased second class tickets, and with the TTE's permission, boarded the AC 3 tier coach in Konark and returned to Visakhapatnam (after upgrading our tickets by paying the excess fare).
Covered in this compilation are the hills around Visakhapatnam and two magnificent crossings of the Godavari river. The river was in full flow and I personally have never seen so much water in the Godavari till date.
A number of crossings are also included. The chief ones are overtakes by the Hatia Bangalore Express, Chennai Santragachhi AC Express (Arakkonam WAP1), Mumbai Visakhapatnam Express, Janmabhoomi Express, Andhra Pradesh AC Express, Dakshin Link Express, Ratnachal Express, Bangalore and Secunderabad Guwahati Expresses, Prashanthi Express, Yesvantpur Howrah Express, Tirumala Express and the Circar and Sheshadri Express, both with spectacular twin Vijayawada WDP1s.

This dual bridge connects Kovvur in West Godavari district to Diwancheruvu in East Godavari district via Rajahmundry bypass express road. The foundation stone for the bridge was laid in 2009 by then Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. 4th bridge was targeted for completed in 2012, but due to multiple delays it was opened to traffic in 2015. Due to delays the cost of bridge went up to Rs. 800 crore from the estimated Rs. 512 crore. This bridge was expected to ease traffic through Rajahmundry city but some multi-axle trucks are using old route due to the narrow road connecting the bridge from Gundugolanu to Kovvur.
