Goishi Coast
The Goishi Coast is a scenic 6-km coastline along the southeastern part of Matsusaki Peninsula. Goishi refers to the stone pieces used in a Japanese board game called go; the pebbles that cover the beach resemble the go game pieces, hence the name. It was designated as a national place of scenic beauty and a national natural monument in 1937. It is also listed in Japan's 100 Best Beaches, 100 Best White Beaches with Green Pines, 500 Beautiful Roads for Walking, and 100 Sound Sceneries of Japan. There are many caves, islands, and pine woods colored with flowers such as daisies, candlestick lilies, and day lilies. The 4-km hiking trail leads to places of interest such as the Ranboya Channel, where dynamic waves beat against the rocks, and Kaminariiwa, where waves beat inside a cave and echo like thunder.

Anatoshiiso is an oddly shaped rock formation in the sea with three openings through which small pleasure boats can pass.

日本の美しい海の風景 岩手県大船渡市末崎半島の碁石海岸は「国の名勝・天然記念物」「日本の渚・百選」にも選ばれており、碁石のような形の石が海岸沿い一帯に広がっています。この石は押し寄せる波によって互いにぶつかり合い、美しい音色を奏でます。
他にも、数十mの切り立った岸壁に激しく白波を立てながらぶつかり合い、荒々しく豪快な音を立てる乱曝谷(らんぼうや)の風景や、沖合い32kmまで光を届けて海の安全を守る碁石崎灯台がある、碁石岬（ごいしみさき）。洞穴に打ち当たる波が空気を圧縮して、まるで雷鳴のような音を出す「雷岩」（かみなりいわ）や、荒々しい風景の中で、異彩を放つ「巾着岩」（きんちゃくいわ）などの東北地方一帯に広がるリアス式海岸の美しい風景が楽しめる観光名所として知られています。

Rocking Out at Goishi Coast (碁石海岸）
Designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty, Goishi Coast (or Goishi Kaigan) is six kilometers (3.7 miles) of pristine Pacific coastline in Ofunato, Iwate Prefecture. To begin our journey, we started at the Goishi Misaki Lighthouse, a great lookout point. Behind the lighthouse, and down a set of stairs, awaits a spectacular deck with dramatic panoramic views of the coast and the craggy rock formations.
Goishi Kaigan is named after the Japanese board game “Go.” The stones (ishi) resemble Go pieces. The stones not only have an interesting appearance but the soothing sound the waves make after washing over the smooth stones is also worth noting.

Japan Diary: Tohoku's Sanriku Coastline Roadtrip

ITS ALMOST TIME FOR ME TO GO BACK HOME TO INDONESIA!
But before that, I and a couple of friends went on a roadtrip to Tohoku's northern Iwate Prefecture and made stops to Tohoku's scenic spots: Sanriku Coastline.
Tohoku has a lot to offer but it doesnt have enough attention when it comes to tourism! But i can say that everything was really beautiful and mesmerizing, that i was really sad my camera could not capture the actual beauty! It didnt do any justice, it was so unreal!
Anyways, here's a little clip i made from the roadtrip. The people i went with was also as amazing!

探訪 被災地から 陽光受けて輝く〝碁石〟 岩手県大船渡市「碁石海岸」
碁石のように平らで丸い石が敷き詰められた渚に波が打ち寄せる。陽光が差し込むと、ぬれた石がキラキラと輝いた。岩手県大船渡市にある「碁石海岸」は、真冬でも穏やかな空気に包まれていた。
碁石海岸は末崎半島先端に位置する約６キロの海岸線の総称で、リアス式の断崖絶壁と優美な松林が織りなす景勝地。中でも、大浜と碁石浜は波に磨かれた玉砂利が特徴だ。平成２３年３月１１日、一帯は大きな揺れと津波に襲われた。大浜は大きな被害を免れたが、碁石浜には１０メートルを超える津波が押し寄せ、周辺の民家や漁船を押し流した。
碁石浜周辺は、地震に伴う地盤沈下や防潮堤建設などで、震災前と比べ景観が大きく変化している。沖にはワカメ養殖縄のブイが無数に並ぶ。多くは津波で流されたが、波間の風景は元の姿に戻りつつある。 （写真報道局 松本健吾）

Yamada-Machi in Iwate prefecture, Tohoku Region. This is the Temple and the neighborhood where I stayed 10 days during my first volunteer project in the Tsunami affected area. I worked in a kindergarten about 10 minutes away from here by car... One of the most impressive experiences I've ever lived started here. 東日本大震災から１年１０ヶ月余の細浦地区と大船渡町内の様子。津波で破壊された建物の取り壊しが進む中一方では新築工事も盛んに行われ、所によっては、復興の兆しが色濃く感じられる。
しかし、大船渡駅東側は計画があるようだが、まだ工事は始まっていない。
