Gojinjyo Taiko Wajima Japan 御陣乗太鼓
The origin of Gojinjyo Taiko dates back to 1576,when it is reputed to have saved the villege of Nafune on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture from an offencive launched by the well-known war lord,Kenshin Uesugi, to invade the interior region of Noto. In courageous attempt to defend their native land, the villagers penetrated the Uesugi ranks under cover of darkness, wearing masks of bark and with seaweed on their heads to give the appearance of tangled long hair.
The Uesugi camp was thrown into confusion at the unexpected sound of their Jintaiko,or battle drums.and the unearthly appearance. They fled from the region in due haste.
It is said that the tremendous noises heard that night were the sounds of Gojinjo Taiko.
Gojinjo Taiko was designated as Intangible Cultural Asset by Wajima City in 1961 , and by Ishikawa Prefecture in 1963.

Wajima Gojinjo Daiko taiko drumming 輪島御陣乗太鼓
Held at Kasuga Shrine in Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. The taiko drummers wear fearsome masks while drumming. Gojinjo daiko commemorate the day when villagers in Nabunemachi in Ishikawa Prefecture used crude and frightening masks made of tree bark and seaweed dangling from their heads and beat the taiko drums when they invaded Lord Uesugi Kenshin's base camp. They used sickles and hoes to chase away the army who was enroute to capture Nanao Castle. The villagers lived happily afterward.

Gojinjo-Daiko Imformation
Gojinjo-daiko (御陣乗太鼓) is a Japanese drum which has been selected as part of Wajima City’s cultural heritage (1961) and an Ishikawa Prefecture’s intangible cultural heritage (1963).
Playing gojinjo-daiko is strictly restricted to residents of Nafune, a small village in Wajima City, where only 250 people live, making it very rare to see a live drum performance.
Gojinjo-daiko is very impressive.
I hope to watch a Gojinjo-daiko live even just once.

Aenokaze Dinner Show - Gojinjo-daiko Taiko Drum [4K]
4K Video of the taiko drumming dinner show at the Aenokaze Onsen Hotel in Wakura Onsen, Japan. This was a really unique performance — the show is performed in a “dinner theatre” where guests eat in private rooms while watching the show. The servers that serve the food all wear traditional Kimonos. The performance itself is inspired by a Taiko drumming festival that occurs every year on the Noto Peninsula. Legend says that the Noto Peninsula was being invaded, and the men of the region carved scary masks, and pounded their drum so loud that they scared the invaders away.
I’ll have a full review of the hotel sometime in the future. Stay tuned!
