TAKAYAMA || EP 12 || Shirakawago & Gokayama - beautiful Japanese idyllic scenery
Shirakawa-Go - It takes approximately 50 minutes to travel from Takayama to Shirakawa-go by highway bus or car.
When we get off the car and cross the bridge, we see “gassho-style” wooden houses characterized by steep, triangular thatched roofs. This is “Ogimachi gassho-zukuri village”, which is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site (Shirakawa Village, Gifu Prefecture). It makes sense that many tourists from all over the world visit the village.
Gokayama – a utopia where classic Japan still remains
Fifty-five minutes north from Shirakawa-go by local bus or car, a utopia unfolds before my eyes. Gassho –style houses, terrace fields and rice terraces surrounded by mountains dwell in perfect harmony. This is “Ainokura Gassho-zukuri village” in Gokayama (Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture), which is also registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site as is “Ogimachi Gassho-zukuri village” in Shirakawa-go.

I decided to stay at the Bed & Breakfast Show the day. Being that a lot of people come to repair the second floor. The lady owner prepares dinner. Dinner dishes include the fish seem to come up. This stay in Spain, Russia & breakfast with friends and try to talk to the smartphone translator. While not exactly been talking to the world through smartphones. Town deep in the mountains at night brings back soon. The concert was held for the B & B people. Gokayama folk song representative of the Chirico said the show. The five musicians with instruments and Chirico and flute made of bamboo will play North and gender dancers appeared alternately. Chirico and is the oldest folk songs in Japan when I wrote 'around the town come after the good harvest and pray for the solution. Britain's Queen Elizabeth II used as background music in manchanjang when he visited Japan and become more famous. Instruments and carrying out male dancers appeared is called 'Sasara'. Jimyeo flexibility to produce bend encountered the sound. Dance of the male dancers are challenging than women. This show could see only the original village festivals these days are always a show for the tourists. This is the old well preserved exile yeoteuna now it has become a tradition where you can see the true face of Japan's best. When it started in Japan in the Heian period as it did before, maybe I do not know who gave what even deliver on the continent. However, a unique form of Gokayama in Japan now I'm left with this form of dance Chirico and Japanese culture and I do not know what, maybe even Chirico is brought in from Korea because of the culture passed down in many places was independently developed in Japan.

The structure of the house saw Mr. Iwase house can be seen well. The house was built over 300 years ago, in 1958, it was designated as a cultural asset. Chumin and traditional folk Finish this area and was the Chirico show. This house is made with zelkova trees. At the time there was a zelkova should be written only in temples or shrines. This house is where you create a yieotgie yeomcho needed to manufacture gunpowder administration officials have often heard and out. Sometimes, himself, is also used as a hostel could be built into the management of zelkova trees. He looked up to the second floor. It was broader than it looks. The wind kept tightly tied not to the roof fly it seems to have a trace of sericulture. Sericulture is the most important thing at the time was with yeomcho production. The third floor is not too narrow. Most of the house is three floors. The first floor has a residential floor 2,3 sericulture. Usually sericulture, so the first floor area should be broadened to do so, but do not put your weight is a mulberry leaves you on flat ground floor will raise the silkworms to the second floor Sore down get off a lot of snow in the winter. Altar enshrines the house is the birth of Ms. Iwase The group said it was much earlier. Not sure, but it likely anchihan 120-30 years before the Meiji era. One has room to lay down Bearskin. Is Sitting minute on a bearskin is any minute? There I was sitting samurai So here comes there ever been there stands a lesser warrior would notice immediately, between the porch that is managed by the school entrance which is more than two meters creating a space that can not be kept a couple of windows and touch the knife. Common house altar is not here. Usually half the Buddha altar with half got a lot of home-made kitchen. It is equipped with everything Formal home.

It seems that the sky and the clouds touching the mountains are about to play together. I arrived at Iwate's Dono station. Even though it is around the station, it is quiet, and the street decoration is unique in that it is in a fairy tale. Dono, which means a wide field, has a landscape of old country and traditional Japanese houses. I found a traditional house that preserved its old form. The first thing that stands out is the carriage, which has long been regarded as a precious commodity for carrying goods to the mountains and the sea. Our people always look after their horses and they are living healthy by looking at the words of whether they are eating well or not. There are a lot of folk tales that are passed down by word of mouth and are famous for the breakdown of folk tales. My grandmother tells old stories to those who come here. It is said that it does not hold the Godfather soldier. It is finished. This is Kappa doll clothes. I came to Kappa's fortress, so I tried to try it. Among the folk paintings, there is a story about the water, Kappa. It is said that the children who play in the river of the goddess have to do the grudging (the children) in the water.

Nao Takeuchi - KOKIRIKO
Nao Takeuchi (竹内 直 sax) - Rapture
Kokiriko-bushi is the most oldest folk song in Japan.
Kokiriko-bushi is sung in GOKAYAMA .
(GOKAYAMAis a village within the city of Nanto in Toyama Prefecture. Its very traditional gasshō-zukuri style homes make it a nearly unique site, and is regarded a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the village of Shirakawa-gō in the Gifu Prefecture. -Wikipedia-)

Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama in Japan [HD] |
The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama are one of Japan's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The site is located in the Shogawa river valley stretching across the border of Gifu and Toyama Prefectures in central Japan. Shirakawa-gō (白川郷, White River Old-District) is located in the village of Shirakawa in Gifu Prefecture. The Gokayama (五箇山, Five Mountains) area is divided between the former villages of Kamitaira and Taira in Nanto, Toyama Prefecture.
These villages are well known for their houses constructed in the architectural style known as gasshō-zukuri The Gasshō-zukuri, prayer-hands construction style is characterized by a thatched and steeply slanting roof resembling two hands joined in prayer. The design is exceptionally strong and, in combination with the unique properties of the thatching, allow the houses to withstand and shed the weight of the region's heavy snowfalls in winter.
The houses are large, with three to four stories encompassed between the low eaves, and historically intended to house large extended families and a highly efficient space for a variety of industries. The densely forested mountains of the region still occupy 96% of all land in the area, and prior to the introduction of heavy earth-moving machinery, the narrow bands of flat lands running the length of the river valley limited the area available for agriculture and homestead development. The upper storeys of the gasshō houses were usually set aside for sericulture, while the areas below the first (ground) floor were often used for the production of nitre, one of the raw materials needed for the production of gunpowder.

DYA717 July 8, 2016 Toyama, Takaoka, Johana
6:30 a.m. breakfast at the Takaoka Manten Ekimae Hotel. Then BURA-BURA. Another hot, humid, steamy, wet-sticky-clothes day! After a 20-minute walk from my hotel, I visited Kanayamachi, an area where they have preserved one street of old metal-casters and copperware makers. I mentioned that this city has many copper sculptures on display everywhere. Apparently they’re not afraid of copper DO-RO-BO-s like you know who/where! Copper drains, pipes, sidings, etc are everywhere. Then I walked along Yamachosuji (street lined with storehouses), another street with old preserved buildings, this time merchant storehouses. Most are now residences on top with some kind of store on the street level.
Uuuuuuuu, had plenty time so I jumped on the local train, my 1-car limo ride and went one hour to the end-of-the-line city, Johana. The tourist information office didn’t have English brochures but the lady spoke plenty good English. I followed her directions and first walked to Zentoku-ji, a Buddhist temple. This temple is over 500 years old and has many valuable aritifacts. A nice bell tower and a nice statue. Unfortunately I didn’t get an English brochure so I was only able to look around without knowing what’s what. It is worth a visit if you’re in the neighborhood.
Then I mosied to a sushi restaurant nearby which was recommended by the lady at the tourist information office. No English menu but the master spoke enough English to help me out. I had a small bowl of I guess chirashi sushi. ONO! I was taking pictures of the restaurant and the chef showed me a special room. Something like his man-cave and reserved for special dining, I guess. He has his New York Yankees memorabilia displayed there and he invited me in. I didn’t get the name of the Yankees’ Japanese player his is a fan of. He mentioned that the city of Johana has an annual Johana Hikiyama festival and pointed me out to the festival floats/artifacts museum. 510-yen to get in. This festival is held on May 5th so maybe that is something to look forward to in 2017.
I rushed back to the train station to catch the next local train back to Takaoka. Whew, not much written here but it seems like I did a lot and am tired.
