Starbucks opens first Italian location in glossy gold style in Milan
Pumpkin spice lattes are moving in on espresso's turf- Starbucks opens its first Italian location today in Milan. 6 billion espressos are consumed in Italy each year, usually quickly, cheaply and while leaning on a cafe counter. Starbucks is looking to become a part of that hallowed coffee culture.…

Inside Italy’s Only Starbucks
The Milan Roastery is one of only five Starbucks Reserve Roasteries in the world, and it is the only roastery in Europe. It was labelled by the company itself as the most beautiful Starbucks in the world.
The Milan Roastery is 25,000 square feet and is located in Piazza Cordusio, just minutes away from Milan’s main attraction, the Duomo. The roastery is in the centenary building Palazzo Broggi, which has been Milan’s stock exchange and the city’s main post office in its history.
The roasteries are the top diamond of our corporate company, general manager Giampaolo Grossi told INSIDER.
The roastery: What is different, it is different because we have a roasting plant, so we totally roast fresh coffee, and we serve fresh coffee right away to our customers. We are so proud to serve our customers with reserve coffees, so, so unique. And we have coffee from everywhere in the world, 100% Arabica coffee that are mono origin, or sometimes we serve also blends of mono origins.
The Milan Roastery also plays a strategic role for Starbucks. The reserve coffee roasted here, in fact, is distributed to all Starbucks locations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
There is a main bar with seven different coffee extractions, a scooping bar where guests can purchase freshly roasted coffee beans, delicious treats from iconic Milanese bakery Princi, a retail area, and on the mezzanine, the Arriviamo Bar is the place for signature cocktails infused with coffee. But don't worry, you can still get a taste of traditional Italian drinks like Aperol and Campari Spritz.
The main also bar features an affogato station that is exclusive to the Milan Roastery. Here, ice cream is hand-crafted, made-to-order, finished with liquid nitrogen, and served with a shot of espresso. All over the roastery are counters carved from marble sourced from Tuscany, flooring made by local artisans in the Palladiana style, and references to the city of Milan.
The Milan Roastery is also a celebration of the brand's history. The brand itself was born after Starbucks' former CEO Howard Schultz fell in love with espresso bars during a trip to Milan in 1983.
The opening of the Milan Roastery is the story of Starbucks coming full circle, he said at the opening.
At this location, there's not just a few baristas, there's hundreds. And no, you will not find Frappuccinos on the menu, but instead, a truly unique selection of drinks to choose from.
We have almost 115 different kind of beverages, but what is running the sale, what represents our tradition in terms of respect, is espresso, said Grossi. So Italian people are so curious about espresso, and they would like to know how we serve espresso in Starbucks, and I can tell you that many Italian people fell in love with our espresso.
At the same time, our espresso is the way how we can approach the Italian customer and deliver to them a different kind of experience. I had the opportunity to interact with some customers from Milan, or really, Milanese people, that used to come here, and in a Milanese accent they said: El caferin l'é bon so, this means in English, This coffee's so good. It's joyful for us, at the same time, we are so proud to get this respect.

Starbucks opens first branch in Milan, Italy
US coffee giant Starbucks opens its first branch in Italy, with the sprawling Milan 'roastery' at the avant garde of an ambitious plan to conquer the spiritual home of espresso. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
The Great Italian Cafe: Milan
Milan quintessentially for me, is a very special place, as it is the home of the very first espresso machine and a significant global contributor of what the joy of pinnacle coffee is all about.
Not to mention its influence on fashion and art lol. Ahh, drinking coffee with models, while they enjoy a bit of a cake binge and an excellent cup of Milano's finest. ahh si, la dolce vita !

Starbucks opens its first shop in Milan, but faces stiff competition
(6 Sep 2018) Starbucks is opening its first store in Italy, hoping that premium brews and novelties will win customers, but it will face stiff competition in a country fond of its daily espresso rituals.
Decades ago, Milan's coffee bars inspired the chain's vision.
Now Starbucks is hoping clients will visit its new store, called the Reserve Roastery, to watch beans being roasted, sip coffee or enjoy cocktails at a mezzanine-level bar in a cavernous, former post office near the city's Duomo, or cathedral.
Starbucks chief design officer Liz Muller said earlier this week that the company is not coming to Italy to teach people about coffee. This is where coffee was born.
Instead, Muller said, Starbucks wanted to come and bring a premium experience that is different to what people in Italy are used to.
She described that formula as including many different brewing techniques and a space where we want you to stay longer and relax and enjoy.
In Italy, an espresso at a coffee bar is usually a quick morning or after-lunch ritual performed standing up.
In many neighborhoods, cafes are practically on every corner, and Italians are on a first-name basis with their trusted barista.
Italy is Starbucks' 78th global market, and the Milan opening comes 20 years after Starbucks opened its first store in Europe, in London.
The company has described the Milan store as the crown jewel of Starbucks global retail footprint. It says it plans more cafes for Milan later this year.
Milan is the first place where Starbucks has opened a store in its Roastery format in untested territory.
It opened a Roastery in Seattle, the U.S. city that is home to its corporate headquarters, in 2014, and a second one in Shanghai last year.
Italians are used to marble counters for coffee bars, but Starbucks boasts that it outfitted its counter tops in the Milan store with heating so they won't feel stone cold on chill days.
The centerpiece of the Milan store is a 6.5-meter (22-foot) high bronze cask, part of the roasting process.
Some of the Milanese coffee drinkers are still to be persuaded.
I think the classic Italian coffee is best, said Giuanluigi while having his shot of espresso at a local coffee shop.
I also prefer it when I go abroad, Giuanluigi said.
The company also hopes the store's cocktail bar will be an attraction: Many who work in Milan, Italy's fashion and financial capital, cherish the tradition of meeting friends or colleagues for an aperitivo, or pre-dinner cocktail, often in cafes.

Starbucks Coffee Reserve Roastery giant store in downtown Milan Italy by the Cathedral geeneou5
#starbucks #coffee #cappuccino We found out that Starbucks had opened their first stores in Milan Italy while researching our upcoming trip. We saw on the map the Starbucks Reserve Roastery was right near the Milan Cathedral. We went to check it out, and get one of the “You Are Here” Italy mugs. As it turns out, the store is not like regular stores at all. There is a functioning coffee roaster right on the store’s floor, and the food and merchandise selection is much larger than a regular store. They also do not carry the You Are Here mugs, but they are available in the other regular store Milan locations. Starbucks is also set to open their first Rome location soon, and after drinking authentic cappuccinos in dozens cafes all over Italy for 10 days, then trying a Starbucks cappuccino at this store for the first time the night before leaving, I’m happy to report the Starbucks cappuccino I had was just as good as any of those little cafe’s.
Jazz Café, Milan x Pioneer Pro Audio
The Jazz Café in Milan chooses Pioneer Pro Audio XY Series.
The speakers were selected for the café in a gold-grid version combining the experience of full surround-sound with an elegant and perfect design for the location. The system is fully integrated with Pioneer DJ’s proprietary application KUVO, which can be used to display track-lists of songs, played directly on a smartphone or PC, allowing the storage of live music sets performed by DJs.
The partnership with the Jazz Café, a reference point for generations of Milanese and livening up nightlife in Milan since 1996, was celebrated on Tuesday, 15th November with a huge party, the highlight of which was a set from the DJ Claudio Coccoluto, one of the most famous Italian DJs recognised worldwide for house music.
The café has always been known for good quality music and provides its customers with aperitifs, dinner and in particular, lively after-hours entertainment, accompanied by music of different genres, from bass-heavy house to Brazilian beats and of course, jazz. The restaurant serves a fine selection of Italian and fusion classic dishes, but the highlight of the evening at Jazz Café is definitely after-dinner entertainment, which includes DJ sets and live performances from famous artists.
