Barkerville and Cariboo exploring the Gold Rush Trail
The Gold Rush Trail goes from Vancouver up the interior of BC to Barkerville, where billions of dollars of gold were removed in the 1860-70s. The Cariboo Gold Rush was so huge it triggered the British colonies of Vancouver Island and British Columbia to merge, and join the new Dominion of Canada in an attempt to prevent a US takeover, merging Washington and Alaska with a land bridge in BC. Barkerville has been preserved, almost fully intact, and hosts many accomplished actors and musicians re-creating the stories, sounds and ethnic diversity of this iconic town. Back towards the Fraser River in the High Chilcotin country, we stop at Echo Valley ranch. This historic gold rush area is now quiet except for forestry, fishing and ranching, but the big spectacular country hasn't changed much. An impromptu bagpipe ceilidh in the lobby of the St. George Hotel, and music from the world renowned Chinese musician Ben Zhou adds to the cultural diversity of Barkerville.
Gold Mountain: The True Story of the BC Gold Rush
In the late 1800s, before Canada was even a country, an influx of Chinese immigrants came to the B.C. region in search of gold. What they found instead would build communities and pathways for future Chinese-Canadians.

A day trip to the historic Gold Rush town of Barkerville, British Columbia
A very enjoyable Saturday spent at Barkerville, BC, Canada. The town has many buildings from the mid-1800s, some pretty dapper actors in authentic 19th century clothing and stores with all kinds of goods. And the landscape surrounding it is amazingly beautiful.

Exploring Barkerville Historic Town Cemetery!
Part of a recent Well's Gray Ltd. trip (Skeena and Inside Passage package) we stopped at the the Historic Town of Barkerville and I decided to check out the Cemetery as it was not on the tour agenda but I took it upon myself to break away from the other tourists and check out this historic Cemetery since I would not get another chance. If I seem somewhat out of breath don't worry I am fine, I was not expecting the hike to be so out of the way and I was rushed since I was on a schedule! Well worth it and I am happy to share with you all. Check out these related links for more info on Barkerville and the Cemetery. WELCOME TO BARKERVILLE : Barkerville Cemetery Accessible Trail : Barkerville Cemetery

Exploring Barkerville The historical Gold Rush Town
After 2 days it was nice to tour the famous barkerville town site one of the more popular places during the caribou gold rush. The miners here were lucky to hit the motherlode just 50 feet below the surface. One guy claimed to get 98 ounces of gold in just one pan. the bill diller claim they recovered over 200 pounds of gold in just a 24 hour period.
