-- About this video --
Today we are heading to Tata Beach to start a kayak adventure with Golden Bay Kayaks! We are kayaking in Golden Bay and even kayaking into the Abel Tasman National Park to the lesser-known side of Abel Tasman National Park.
We meet our awesome guide from Golden Bay Kayaks who gears us up with a double kayak, gives us some paddling tips, then we hit the water to kayak in Golden Bay. We head straight for the Abel Tasman National Park on the Golden Bay side.
Kayaking in Golden Bay brings us to the rugged side of Abel Tasman National Park with rugged granite coastal cliffs, secluded beaches and islands. We see seals and two of the largest shag colonies in New Zealand. This kayaking trip in Golden Bay is full of wildlife encounters.
We even kayak through a Hole in the Rock in the Abel Tasman National Park before making our way back to Golden Bay. After Kayaking in Golden Bay, we hit the road to the other side of the Abel Tasman National Park where we stay at The Barn in Marahau. We have more Abel Tasman National Park exploring to do tomorrow.
So what do you think of kayaking in Golden Bay? Is Golden Bay Kayaks an activity you would love to do in New Zealand?

Whale Stranding, Farewell Spit, Golden Bay, New Zealand, Feb 11th 2017
2nd of 2 pods of Pilot Whales that grounded near the base of Farewell Spit in Golden Bay, at the north-western tip of the South Island, New Zealand.
On Friday it was found over 400 had stranded at the base of the spit on the lee side in the notoriously shallow waters.
The area is know for fast tides, difficult channels and mass strandings.
More than 300 died in the first event.
We arrived too late on the Saturday to help out and volunteers were being sent off, however as we were about to leave the region later on realised that another stranding was happening with the outgoing tide.
This mob turned out to be different from the first lot with no tagged survivors amongst them, and some 150 came in a couple of km south between Puponga and Pakawau.
There are a lot of ifs and whens and could'ves and should'ves which will be addressed in other forums.
Suffice it to say, on top of a 230km trip, we spent 4 hours out in the sand, sun, mud and water before we got sent ashore with the incoming tide, during which I had the camera running here and there to capture some things that might not usually be seen or shown, and in fact some critical parts of the operation really need to be filmed for teaching and understanding the process.
The whales make noise, they cry and shit themselves.
They get overheated and die very quickly in some cases, slowly in others.
They are heavy and get fins and tails stuck in the ground and are almost impossible to get a grip on - I was more use putting my weight behind them and even with 8 or 9 other people it was a hell of an effort to get 5 upright and stable.
It is not a pretty sight.

A sunny sultry New Zealand beach. Close your eyes. Breathe through your nose. Wriggle your toes. Can you feel wavelets wash the sand with a soft salty zephyr on your face? Turn around. There she is, on the foreshore just fifteen steps away. Her gossamer curtains wave lazily through wide open doors. Cicadas chirrup, a seagull cries overhead. A dappled deck, the whiff of BBQ or bacon n eggs. Summer, soft and endless. Children, laughter, yelling, squeals, long smiles. Memories. Big snapper, scallops, water biscuits, swimming and sailing. Slanting sunlight, a good book, hot coffee, feet up. Starlight, fine single malt, a savoury Havana, and time to think. Five bedrooms, three ensuites plus a single bathroom, open plan with a holiday-size kitchen, media or teen lounge, wood-burner, beach-deck and central courtyard. Huge garage with water gear, kayaks, filleting station, and workshop. The beach. Wild, beautiful, eccentric Golden Bay. Fly straight into Takaka from Wellington.
This property is for sale by Deadline Sale which closes 4pm Thursday 21st July 2016 (unless sold prior), 288 Trafalgar Street, Nelson
