Places to see in ( Cagliari - Italy )
Cagliari is the capital city of the Italian island of Sardinia. It’s known for the hilltop Castello, a medieval walled quarter situated high over the rest of the town. Architectural highlights include the 13th-century Cagliari Cathedral. Housed in a former arsenal, the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Cagliari displays bronze objects, Roman ceramics and artifacts from the Nuragic age to the Byzantine era.
An ancient city with a long history, Cagliari has seen the rule of several civilisations. Under the buildings of the modern city there is a continuous stratification attesting to human settlement over the course of some five thousand years, from the Neolithic to today. Historical sites include the prehistoric Domus de Janas, very damaged by cave activity, a large Carthaginian era necropolis, a Roman era amphitheatre, a Byzantine basilica, three Pisan-era towers and a strong system of fortification that made the town the core of Spanish Habsburg imperial power in the western Mediterranean Sea. Its natural resources have always been its sheltered harbour, the often powerfully fortified hill of Castel di Castro, the modern Casteddu, the salt from its lagoons, and, from the hinterland, wheat from the Campidano plain and silver and other ores from the Iglesiente mines.
Cagliari was the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia from 1324 to 1848, when Turin became the formal capital of the kingdom (which in 1861 became the Kingdom of Italy). Today the city is a regional cultural, educational, political and artistic centre, known for its diverse Art Nouveau architecture and several monuments.
It is also Sardinia's economic and industrial hub, having one of the biggest ports in the Mediterranean Sea, an international airport, and the 106th highest income level in Italy (among 8,092 comuni), comparable to that of several northern Italian cities. It is also the seat of the University of Cagliari, founded in 1607, and of the Primate Roman Catholic archdiocese of Sardinia, since the 5th century AD.
Forget flying: the best way to arrive in Sardinia’s historic capital is by sea, the city rising in a helter-skelter of golden-hued palazzi, domes and facades up to the rocky centrepiece, Il Castello. Although Tunisia is closer than Rome, Cagliari is the most Italian of Sardinia’s cities. Vespas buzz down tree-fringed boulevards and locals hang out at busy cafes tucked under arcades in the seafront Marina district.
Like many Italian cities, Cagliari wears its history on its sleeve and everywhere you go you come across traces of its rich past: ancient Roman ruins, museums filled with prehistoric artefacts, centuries-old churches and elegant palazzi. Edging east of town brings you to Poetto beach, the hub of summer life with its limpid blue waters and upbeat party scene.
Considerable remains of the ancient city of Karalis are still visible, including those of the Tuvixeddu necropolis, the Roman amphitheatre, traditionally called Is centu scalas (One hundred steps), and of an aqueduct used to provide generally scarce water. Still visible are also some ancient cisterns of vast extent, the ruins of a small circular temple, and numerous sepulchres on a hill outside the modern town that appear to have formed the necropolis of the ancient city. The amphitheatre stages open-air operas and concerts during the summer.
The Palaeo-Christian Basilica of San Saturnino, dedicated to a martyr killed under Diocletian's reign, Saturninus of Cagliari, patron saint of the city, was built in the 5th century. The old medieval town (called Castello in Italian, Casteddu de susu in Sardinian, the upper castle) lies on top of a hill with a view of the Gulf of Cagliari (also known as Angels' Gulf). Most of its city walls are intact and include two early 14th-century white limestone towers, the Torre di San Pancrazio and the Torre dell'Elefante, typical examples of Pisan military architecture.

Winter 2020 - Evelyn Virag
Cala Li Cuncheddi is located just in front of the Hotel Cala Li Cuncheddi along some typically serene coastline near Porto Istana, Olbia-Tempio. Set in a charming bay called Cala Sos Passizzedos, this pristine beach offers golden sands which are notoriously clean and fine. However, there is also a story behind this hidden treasure as back in 2014, the protected beach of Li Cuncheddi was able to regain its natural beauty through local initiatives. As with many beaches in Sardinia, the sea offers a beautiful crystalline color that collides with emerald green, turquoise, and blue. Consequently, it also has a shallow, sandy bottom with a rocky bed and a reef at either end. The presence of the above-mentioned reefs makes Cala Li Cuncheddi a perfect location for snorkeling, surfing, and other water sports. As with some of the more secluded and less touristic beaches in Sardinia, Cala Li Cuncheddi has an isolated and personable atmosphere, but at the same time, there are also many amenities located not far from the beach including a resort, seaside restaurant, small shops and several more dining options. Cala Li Cuncheddi is never crowded, even in the high season, and for such an immaculately clean and scenic part of the island, it makes this one of the most attractive beaches in north-east Sardinia for tourists and visitors who want a local experience, away from the crowds.
From Olbia south towards San Teodoro, on highway 125 , after about 9 km turn left towards Porto Istana; after 500 m turn left to Capo Ceraso, make another 2 km then turn left towards Capo Ceraso, after more than 800 m we reach the beach.

Places to see in ( San Teodoro - Italy )
San Teodoro is a comune in the Province of Sassari in the Italian region Sardinia, located about 180 kilometres northeast of Cagliari and about 20 kilometres southeast of Olbia. La Cinta, a long, thin stretch of golden sand bathed by a crystalline blue sea, Cala Brandinchi, a white shore with water that resembles a tropical paradise nicknamed, for good reason, Tahiti, Lu Impostu, its natural progression, the magnificent Marina di Puntaldìa, with its modern tourist harbour and the Caribbean-like s’Isuledda beach.
These beaches are the symbols of San Teodoro, a celebrated resort town that is a favourite among young people for its night life. The coastline here is home to a variety of beautiful seashore ‘gems’: Cala Ginepro, its air fragrant with the aromas of the native Mediterranean brush, Coda Cavallo beach, which will amaze you with views of the grand Tavolara and its protected marine area, Cala Ghjlgolu, where the wind and the sea moulded a boulder into the shape of a turtle, an attraction very popular with visitors, especially children.
Other places may be less famous, but they are no less beautiful: Baia Salinedda, Cala d’Ambra, Cala Suaraccia, Li Corri di Li Becchi, Li Marini and Seghefusti. The spectacle is completed by, behind the beaches, the San Teodoro lagoon, where flamingos come to rest during migration and home to the long-legged black-winged stilt. It’s a wonderful place for a nice walk and a spot of bird watching.
Known all over Gallura as Santu Diàdoru, this town is home to less than five thousand people in winter, a number that rises to tens of thousands in summer. Although man’s presence here dates to prehistoric times, the town came about in the XVII century, just inland from the eastern slopes of Mt. Nieddu, when shepherds and fishermen populated this amazing stretch of land. The nuraghe in the area of Naracheddu is its most important relic.
People had also settled here in Roman times, as documented by archaeological finds now at the Museo del Mare. Among the events not to miss are the festivities surrounding patron saint San Teodoro, whose church was rebuilt in the mid XX century, and festivities of Sant’Andrea, which take place in the Montipitrosu quarter. The bonfires of Sant’Antonio Abate during the Lu Fuculoni festival are especially spectacular, when the faithful gather around the raging flames in honour of their saint. San Teodoro is a town of culinary delights: in May there is the Agliòla, during which local specialities are celebrated.
You will love the Gallurian zuppa made with bread and cheese in a tasty beef stock. At meal’s end you’ll be tempted by such delicacies as cucciuléddi milàti, honey rolls, frisjióli léti, fritters and niuléddha, with almonds and grated orange peel. All of it to be washed down with, what else, a glass of vermentino di Gallura

Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Castiadas
Castiadas is a comune in the Province of South Sardinia in the Italian region Sardinia, located about 35 kilometres east of Cagliari. Founded in the 14th century and repopulated in the 19th century after centuries of abandonment, it is part of the Sarrabus-Gerrei historical region. The area was populated by italian-tunisians, mainly of sicilian descent, immigrated here from Bizerte in 1965. Castiadas borders the following municipalities: Maracalagonis, Muravera, San Vito, Sinnai, Villasimius.
Sea and tropical beaches, natural oasis and quality food production. Castiadas is a young Municipality of Sarrabus , independent since 1986, occupying a vast and rich territory, inhabited since the pre-nuragic period and frequented until Roman times, today consisting of villages, born after the Second World War, with limited concentration of residents - just a thousand and 600 - but densely populated and animated in the warmer months. The first traces of inhabited date back to the fourteenth century. In the nineteenth century the territory was reclaimed to erect a penal agricultural colony , closed in the middle of the twentieth century and now converted into a museum. From there comes the population and the exploitation of a very fertile area, which produces renowned vegetables and citrus fruits.
The 13 kilometers of the Castiadas coast are one of the most beautiful stretches of Sardinia, a succession of white sand sceneries and dazzling colors, perfect places, not only for summer but also for break in spring and autumn, thanks to the beautiful sunny days and terse. Going back up the coastline starting from the border with Villasimius and the marine area of Capo Carbonara , you will find a jewel of absolute value, Cala Pira , a corner of paradise protected by a promontory on which the homonymous tower is perched: soft dunes are surrounded by granites and fragrant from secular junipers and Mediterranean scrub. Further north another pearl, C ala Sinziaswith two kilometers of soft, white sand, a limpid seabed and waters of various blue shades. Behind a dense vegetation: lentisks, pines and eucalyptus. For lovers of travel on the road , the bay is ideal with areas equipped for campers and campsites behind the beach. Then there are the beaches of Cannisoni and San Pietro (or Cala Marina), wide and beautiful with its golden reflections. In addition, Costa Rei begins , ten kilometers of golden and fine sandy beaches that slope down to a sky-colored sea. In the order you will meet the beaches of Monte Turno, of Sant'Elmo and of Santa Giusta, up to the 'rock of Peppino', border between the territories of Castiadas and Muravera
The backdrop to the coast there is the mountainous profile of the ' oasis of Seven Brothers , valuable natural park, ideal for relaxing walks, dotted with archaeological sites. A triumph of nature, made of rocks reliefs shaped by time and woods inhabited by rare animal species, such as deer and mouflons. Over the routes in the encounter canyon park, gorges, towers and valleys crossed by rivers. Among the natural monuments is the ' Angel's bow , pink granite from which to admire the entire valley Castiadas.

Places to see in ( Villasimius - Italy )
Villasimius is a coastal town in southeast Sardinia, Italy. The Marine Protected Area Capo Carbonara has barracuda, seagrass meadows and dive sites. Nearby, the Stagno di Notteri lagoon is visited by migrating flamingos in winter. Starting from the beach of Porto Giunco, the Sentiero delle Cave path leads to a 16th-century watchtower. West are the medieval Old Fortress and the white-sand Spiaggia del Riso beach. Approximately 31 miles from the Port of Cagliari and from Elmas Airport in southern Sardinia, is Villasimius, one of the most sought-out resort localities on the Mediterranean. It is rather well-known for its concentration of singular, golden-white beaches, transparent water, intense perfumes of the myrtle plant, of juniper and Scotch broom, and for its accommodation of every type of tourist.
The territory of Villasimius extends from the mountain chain of the Seven Brothers (Sette Fratelli) to the coasts of the Capo Carbonara Promontory. Of course these mountains are of an incomparable beauty (Mt. Minni Minni, accessible on foot or on bike, offers a striking panorama over the surrounding terrain); however, the beaches are the main attraction. Campulongu, Simius and Porto Giunco Beaches are the most coveted by those who want to enjoy a full day with their families or friends, to fish or surf, sunbathe and swim toward the sunset. And they have a wide choice at that: 20 beaches are dispersed throughout the 20 miles of coast in Villasimius, where tourists will find everything from agritourisms to more lux accommodations. They can even camp or rent a private villa.
Villasimius’s urban center – just under a mile from Simius Beach - boasts an archaeological museum and a touristic port, and its summer calendar is an annual explosion of music, folkloristic and enogastronomic festivals. Villasimius is also known for its religious festivals, along with its honey and local wine production, its amaretti sardi (almond cookies), and formaggelle (a Sardinian sweet made with pecorino ricotta, also known as Pardulas).
Villasimius is also made up of two islands: l'Isola dei Cavoli, or Cabbage Island, so-called for the abundant presence of cabbage, and Isola di Serpentara, which derives from the island’s serpent-like form. A rather fascinating boat procession takes place on Cabbage Island every third Sunday in July; the boats are heavily-decorated as they move toward the marine statue of the Virgin, Protectress of Sailors (or the Madonna del Naufrago). After a crown of flowers is launched to sea, a team of scuba-divers plunges to the seabed as a priest recites a mass that can be heard with underwater speakers.

Piazza San Sepolcro
Cagliari, Sardegna, Italy
In Sardegna (Sardinia) carnival season is very important. Most villages have unique celebarations, from horse races to masked and costumed parades connected with Sardegna's historial and cultural heritage. The art about carnival explores this tradition. I was part of a group show in Cagliari, Sardegna's largest city, in 2011. My entries in the exhibition was a painting about the Sa Cerrela é Nanti. a special horse race in Santu Lussurgiu, the village I live in, a video about carnival, and two paintings of traditional Sardegnian carnival masks.

NORA 4K Pula (CA) Sardegna

Cagliari, not only sea and sun....
And suddenly there is Cagliari: a naked town rising steep, steep, golden-looking, … It is strange and rather wonderful, not a bit like Italy. The city piles up lofty and almost miniature, and makes me think of Jerusalem: without trees, without cover, rising rather bare and proud, remote as if back in history, like a town in a monkish, illuminated missal. One wonders how it ever got there. And it seems like Spain—or Malta: not Italy. It is a steep and lonely city, treeless, as in some old illumination. Yet withal rather jewel-like: like a sudden rose-cut amber jewel naked at the depth of the vast indenture.
H. Lawrence, Mare e Sardegna, 1921.
The city of Cagliari is situated in the South of Sardinia, overlooking the enchanting gulf called Golfo degli Angeli (Bay of Angels) that goes from the hill known as La Sella del Diavolo (‘The Saddle of the devil’) because of her shape, to the beach of Quartu Sant’Elena.
Cagliari, like Rome was built on 7 hills, each of which names a historical district: Castello, Colle di Bonaria, Colle di San Michele, Monte Claro, Monte Urpinu e Tuvumannu.
The city has much to offer even to the most discerned of travellers: sea, sun history, culture, traditions and excellent food.
Cagliari is not only a city rich in culture and history as she also boasts:
a gorgeous sandy beach, il Poetto, which is over 8 km long;
several parks (I counted 12) that makes of Cagliari one of Italy’s greenest cities;
two large wetlands, respectively called Santa Gilla e Molentargius, which are amongst the most important of Europe, and home to thousand of pink flamingoes.
The most noteworthy historical areas inside the city are: Castello with its numerous medieval monuments and churches, the necropolis of Tuvixeddu e and the Roman Anphitheatre. The districts Villanova, Marina e Stampace are also worth a visit as much as the harbour area and Via Roma.
