Playa Dorada Beach
Playa Dorada is a massive all-inclusive hotel complex on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. It is located west of the main international airport (Gregorio Luperon/Puerto Plata/POP International Airport), and east of the city of Puerto Plata. Playa Dorada contains several different all-inclusive hotels, golf courses, beaches, and other amenities for tourists. Playa Dorada was one of the first major all-inclusive hotel complexes in the Dominican Republic before Punta Cana/Bavaro was developed.
Like its name suggests, the public beach in Playa Dorada has soft golden-coloured sand (Playa Dorada means Golden Beach in Spanish). There are a decent number of vendors on the beach, selling various goods, like hand crafted souvenirs. But there seems to be more regulation of vendors here than there is on popular beaches that are completely open to the general public, like Sosua Beach. The Playa Dorada complex has gates and guards that limit access to the hotels and beaches inside. The Playa Dorada beach vendors wear numbers, so it seems like they need some kind of permit to work on the beach.
