In the 4th episode of Circling Iceland we use Reykjavik as our home base and took on the challenge to do as much as possible in 48h - so we start very early each day to make the most our of it. Our goal is to show you the best things to do in Reykjavik one day and the best sights along the golden circle the other day.
By using the daylight to the max (only doable from late spring - early autumn!) and part of the night we were able to squeeze in even some extra activities in the Highlands, a festival and some Hot Springs. Please be aware that we planned this itinerary way ahead with the help of locals: we had a tough, very strict schedule in order to make it happen in 48h- if you want to do the same we recommend to take 2 more days to be able to enjoy it!!
Come with us as we explore the center of Reykjavik with its many sights, the nightlife, the blue lagoon and the best sights along the golden circle!
Even though we finished our trip this won’t be the last episode - in the upcoming episode we talk about everything you need to know about traveling Iceland yourself!
Traveling Icelands Ring Road is the perfect way to get to know the country on and off the tourist paths. Therefore we took about 2 weeks to get to know Iceland properly by exploring waterfalls, canyons, hot springs, glacier caves, black beaches and of course the stunning coastlines all around the island finishing off in Reykjavik with the countries biggest music festival called „Iceland Airwaves“
We’ll show you which places to visit & our favorite things to do in Iceland in the upcoming videos and how to plan & organize your very own road trip in Iceland. Make sure to subscribe & activate notification to not miss any episode!

Best of the Golden Circle - Iceland Road Trip Guide (Ep 4)
To find the best things to do in Iceland, in this final episode, we start the Iceland Road Trip in the south of Iceland, at our cottage near Vik.
We visited the famous Seljalandfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, saw the incredible black sand beaches of Reynisfjara, and then arrived in Reykjavik for the night.
The next day we set out to explore the Golden Circle, including Geysir, Gullfoss and a hot spring river called Reykjadalur.

THINGS TO DO in Iceland (in this episode):
► Seljalandsfoss - A popular waterfall in South Iceland, and the only waterfall (that I know of) in Iceland that you can walk behind.
► Skogafoss - Massive curtain waterfall with a drop of 60 meters and a width of 25 meters, also in Southern Iceland.
► Reynisfjara - Incredible black sand beach near Vik with basalt sea stacks to one side and rock formations jetting out of the ocean. Get here early to really appreciate it.
► Reykjavik - Iceland's capital city and home to 122,000 people. Reykjavik is the largest city in Iceland and most traveler's jumping off point for the Ring Road and Golden Circle.
► Golden Circle - The Golden Circle is a popular tourist driving route in southern Iceland, which covers about 300 kilometers looping from Reykjavík into the southern uplands of Iceland and back. There are many Golden Circle tours, but I would recommend doing this with a rental car.
► Geysir - The Geysir Hot Spring Area is home to boiling mud pits, exploding geysers, and the lively Strokkur geyser, which launches water 30 meters (100 ft) every few minutes.
The Geysir geyser is said to be the oldest known geyser in the world and where the name originates from.
► Gullfoss - Gullfoss is a very popular waterfall located in the canyon of Hvítá river in southwest Iceland. The name Gullfoss means Golden Waterfall.
► Reykjadalur Hot Springs - A beautiful and unique geothermal river near the town of Hveragerði. It takes about one hour to hike up to the hot springs, so be prepared.

Iceland has always been a dream destination of mine due its impressive, dramatic landscape - rough and incredibly beautiful at the same time. With its volcanoes, geysers and geothermal hot springs and its many waterfalls as well as glaciers it truly is the often claimed land of fire and ice.

The best natural wonders along Iceland's Golden Circle
The Golden Circle is a popular tourist route in Iceland looping around the capital, Reykjavik, and the south of the country.
It stretches for about 300 kilometres and comprises some of the most beautiful attractions of the volcanic island.
A typical one-day trip stops at places like Thingvellir National Park, Strokkur Geysir, Gullfoss Waterfall, and Kerid Crater.
In the southwest of the region, one can enjoy a warm bath at geothermal spa Blue Lagoon, which was named one of the 25 wonders of the world by National Geographic.
No trip to Iceland is complete without a Northern Lights hunt. Luckily enough, it won't be very difficult to find a dark spot and hope for the sky to start the show.

SOLO TRAVEL IN ICELAND: Golden Circle and Snaefellsnes Peninsula (travel vlog)
Perfectly Alone in Iceland: Part 1 - A solo adventure through the land of fire and ice. I have never seen a place quite like it. Iceland's landscape is very unique and out of this world. It is definitely a landscape photographer's paradise! As soon as I arrived Keflavik airport, I picked up my rental car, went ahead and drove around the famous Golden Circle. The stupid GPS took me to a gravel road with steep mountain passes. It was a little scary, but the views distracted me, so it was all good! Second day was wet and gloomy. I drove to the Snaefellsness Peninsula / West Fjords region, and it rained ALL DAY. And guess who forgot her rain jacket at the hostel? Yup. I did not let it ruin my day though, so instead of being upset, I pushed my self to enjoy the rain and the gorgeous painting-like views. By the end of the day, I was completely soaked, but my heart was very happy.

In the second episode of Circling Iceland we use our house in Nollur as a base to explore all the things to do in North Iceland starting with the Godafoss Waterfall. Luckily the weather was with us and we got lucky to see the Northern Lights right in front of our house - instead of sleeping we spent several hours in front of our house in total awe.
On our second day in the north we drove to Myvatn, Dettifoss and then all the way down to Bragdavellir where we moved into our next Apartment to explore sights in the east like the Hengifoss waterfall.
In the next episode we will show you the most popular sights in the south, including glaciers, waterfalls, impressive canyons but also some lesser known spots.
