Horton Kansas Is this America The Heartland?
Im not sure if anyone will understand why I put this under the microscope I don't really care at this point. I was just taken back by anyone placing an 88 yr old WWII vet in jail for 30 days. What's wrong there?
I viewed a video & news articles about this man in this story and felt some bit of concern so I looked it up on google earth and looked around the town. What a town it could be. Quant but in need of a lot of help. No sign of Obamas Road reconstruction funding.
I wont question @ this time the legalities of this story I was just curious about it. It is a bit disturbing learning of the actions of the town or the state for allowing that.
I know an 88 yr old man was placed in jail for 30 days as it states and this town is in dire straights as it appears to me in google shots that r pretty recent. They need help there..
This city / town looks like a ghost townand or has been left in the dust by the state. The streets , curbing of rubble and walkways are something from the 40's.
The state of this town is a real reflection of America today. Our Small towns we all new are dying.
I know others r out there but this is the model fail. I hate to show this & I mean no disrespect to the residents of this town but people have to see what is going on in towns that r ghost towns now. Left alone with no hope. Small towns are disappearing into the abyss.
They r test towns really to me. Their going to vanish and it looks deliberate sort of to me. I get the logistics. Asphalt and concrete and agriculture they don't mix or get along but need each other to survive.
This town looks like one of those set in an agricultural center . I notice no gardens around peoples homes only one really. I noticed no traffic lights. Lack of signage ect...
Notice the lack of municipal services. A lot of recent gas lines but no noticeable marks in the road system that show they dug up the lines or whatever. This means most homes there have gas but lines leading to them r not quite up to par to me from my perspective. Looks like the road systems haven't been touched in decades. Why?
So much to point out. This town lacks so much like its a time capsule from the 40's.
There is no question in my mind that what they did by placing this man in jail for a month was not a good idea. There has been no evident updating of the town / city infrastructure at all as far as I can see in images taken off google earth which were dated 2013. To me the town was more in violation than the man in question.
The streets and sidewalks are down to the dirt practically and the curbing almost rubble. The homes don't look safe and it doesn't look like anyone's been able to get a loan from the big bank that is across the street from the bld of the man who went to jail.
The bank looks like it was just done over but all thru out the town you can see the people there are struggling. I would have found the city in so many more violations it would have or should have put a few town officials in jail.
Is This America? That town looks like it's stuck in the 40's poor place I feel bad for the youth there.
I hope this city / town understands there is an outside and so many other types of people. It is not all white picket fences & white cottages. I think they get that but what they must get is get the community together and demand assistance. It needs a lot of help.
It reads on it's site the following below:
The City of Horton, in addition to operating four public utilities, also develops, constructs and maintains nearly 35-miles of municipal streets and right-of-ways. In 2007, the City of Horton undertook the complete revitalization of Central Avenue south of 15th Street. This important project will not only help with the more efficient and thorough transport of storm waters from Central Avenue and other area streets, but will also improve passage for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. In the years following 2007, the City of Horton will be undertaking the rehabilitation of the curbs and sidewalks, beginning with 10th Street, for each block to the east and west of Central Avenue. If accomplished, the City of Horton will have replaced over 25 blocks of curbs and sidewalks, improving pedestrian traffic and furthering our City's commitment to American's with disabilities, within a 10-year period.
REALLY? Are you kidding me?
I guess they do have problems
