The City of Vladimir is one of the oldest Russian communities. It is located in the heart of the historic Vladimir region (Vladimirskaya Oblast) 180 kilometers (115 miles) northeast of Moscow on the bank of the Klyazma River. The Golden Gates symbolizes the military history of Russia, built with copper in 1158-1164, it was also the north-east entrance to the capital of Russia during the time. The major attractions including Assumption Cathedral, St. Demetrius Cathedral and Golden Gates.

The Golden Gate of Vladimir (Russian: Zolotye Vorota, Золотые ворота), constructed between 1158 and 1164, is the only (albeit partially) preserved ancient Russian city gate. A museum inside focuses on the history of the Mongol invasion of Russia in the 13th century.
The Golden Gates existed in the holiest cities of Eastern Orthodoxy: Jerusalem, Constantinople, and Kiev. On making Vladimir his capital, Andrew the Pious aspired to emulate these structures, commissioning a lofty tower over the city's main gate to be erected in limestone and lined with golden plaques. According to ancient Russian chronicles, the masons were invited from Friedrich Barbarossa. The main arch used to stand 85 meters tall. The structure was topped with a barbican church dedicated to the Deposition of the Virgin's Robe and symbolizing the Theotokos's protection of Andrew's capital.
The gate survived the Mongol destruction of Vladimir in 1237. By the late 18th century, however, the structure had so deteriorated that Catherine the Great was afraid to pass through the arch for fear of its tumbling down. In 1779, she ordered detailed measurements and drawings of the monument to be executed. In 1795, after many discussions, the vaults and barbican church were demolished. Two flanking round towers were constructed in order to reinforce the structure, and artisans then reconstructed the barbican, following the drawings made in 1779.

Вероятнее всего, Золотые ворота были построены княжескими мастерами. Об этом, в частности, свидетельствует княжеский знак, оставленный строителем на одном из белокаменных блоков. Постройка сложена в технике полубутовой кладки, широко распространившейся во владимиро-суздальском зодчестве. Строгие пропорции проездной арки, перекрытой мощным полуциркульным сводом, и особое изящество небольшой церкви наверху придавали сооружению величественный характер, хорошо соответствующий его назначению. Дата закладки ворот относится к 1158 году, окончание строительства — 26 апреля 1164 года, когда была освящена надвратная Ризположенская церковь.
Во время правления Андрея Боголюбского город опоясывался протяжённым валом и имел семь входных ворот (кроме Золотых, это Медные, Иринины или же Оринины, Серебряные, Ивановские, Торговые и Волжские). До наших дней дошли лишь Золотые ворота.

West of here is an imposing white stone tower known as the Golden Gate, with 12th-century copper-gilded oak doors.

After our train ride in from Kazan, Katie and I started our first part of the Golden Ring tour we booked for the coming 5-6 days!
To start, we visited Vladimir and Suzdal Russia.
In Vladimir, we saw the Golden Gate, Cathedral of Assumption and Dimitrius Cathedral.
From there, we departed for Suzdal and had some free time to explore for the afternoon and evening, enjoying the start of the Cucumber Festival! The Cucumber Festival Suzdal is a very popular event that happens once a year and brings in thousands of visitors! It was a fun first evening seeing everything set up and in our next video we take you even more into the festivities!

12-14 июля 2018 года мы совершили очередное Путешествие Выходного для в Поисках Души России – в город Суздаль!
В Суздале мы бывали уже раз 10 и будем приезжать сюда вновь и вновь… И Вам рекомендуем! И обязательно с ночевкой!
12 июля мы поздно вечером, сразу после работы, сели в поезд и отправились в город Владимир. Погуляли по ночному городу, от железнодорожного вокзала до «Золотых Ворот» - здесь у нас был забронирован номер в отеле!
Утром 13.07 – мы осмотрели основные достопримечательности города, сели на рейсовый автобус и поехали в деревушку Боголюбово, где располагается Свято-Боголюбский женский монастырь. Потом пешком по шикарному полю пошли в Церковь Покрова на Нерли. Обратно, не удержались от дополнительных расходов – прокатились на лошадке до железнодорожной станции.
Ну и в Суздаль – основную нашу цель поездки на эти дни! Суздаль всегда очарователен, но особенно я его люблю вечером, когда уезжают толпы туристов, спадает жара и можно побродить по древним улочкам… проводить Солнышко над стенами монастырей и речкой Каменка, послушать птиц и звон колоколов!
Утром мы пошли в Спасо-Евфимиев монастырь, чтобы послушать потрясающий колокольный звон – в моем фильме у Вас будет такая возможность! Очень рекомендую!
Суздаль с утра уже кипел и бурлил народом – что радовало! Все больше людей стали ездить по России – мы это замечаем! На Торговой Площади – было не протолкнуться! Огурцы, помидоры, мёд и медовуха, квас и мороженное, сувениры и вышивки – бойко шла торговля всем и вся! По дороге мы зашли во все Храмы и монастыри, промокли под внезапным теплым дождиком, попили медовухи и чаю с блинами. Удивило, что Кремль обнесли забором и продавали билет за проход… Если – на благое дело, то пусть!
Самое большое оживление было конечно в Музее деревянного зодчества и крестьянского быта – где был эпицентр Огуречного Праздника. Организаторы позаботились и о безопасности, и о том, чтобы всем было весело и интересно – и малым и старым!
И в конце нашего путешествия мы осуществили давнюю мечту – прокатились на мото-плоту по реке Каменка! Рекомендую всем – удовольствие на 5 баллов!

I'm glad to be able to spend two nights in Vladimir (180 km from Moscow). One can visit the Uspensky Cathedral (from Dormition), the Cathedral of St. Demetrius (1194-1197), the Golden Gate, an ancient city gate, and several ancient monasteries. Vladimir is a beautiful city whose visit can be combined with that of Suzdal.
