Cross Country Skiing in Golden, B.C.
Golden, B.C. has a fine cross country ski trail network groomed for classic and skating technique. 2010 Golden Nordic Club's Huckleberry Loppet
One of the hilights of the Nordic Skiing Season at Golden BC is the annual Huckleberry Loppet Race. This year it was the 14th annual, and was held on January 31 on the Dawn Mountain Trails at Kicking Horse Resort and attracted over 120 competitors of every age group. They had a number of different categories from 1 km, to 20km and it was a perfect day with a little new snow coming down and temperatures hovering just below 0C. Great day, and a great race.

The Cross Country skiing at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Golden BC, is fabulous. The Golden Nordic club operates this facility at the Resort and have well over 20 KM of a variety of loops for every calibre Nordic skier.

North Bay to Golden Lake January 2019 .... 710kms
Finally hit the trails in the beginning of January along the top of Algonquin park. 5 of us dropped at the Portage in North Bay and heading out to Mattawa. Night 1 we stayed at the Valois Motel along side of the Ottawa river and the trails were awesome. Day 2 we headed for Sands on Golden Lake......the big ride 280kms. It was a beautiful site to wake up to some amazing views of the Ottawa river and it was a very cold morning of -37 with the wind chill. Stopping for lunch in Pembroke at the local Kelseys we were treated to a great lunch and perfect place to warm up a little. The trails were fantastic and not alot of traffic for a friday. The ride to the Sands was a little warmer as the sun started coming out......but once we got to the hotel and in front of the fire we started to thaw out. A great evening at the Sands, resting, great dinner and a couple pops as we looked forward to the ride back to the Valois Motel. Another cold morning after a late breakfast we headed out for the big ride. Stopping only for gas we made it back the Mattawa in great time. The trails had a little more traffic and more wear and tear but still made great time. The Valois Motel was a fantastic host with great food and location. Next day back to the Portage and head it home! We had a fantastic trip and thank you to the Valois Motel, Sands on Golden Lake and The Portage for being amazing hosts! See you again soon.

I'm Katrina Harland, WinSport Marketing Manager, filling in for Helen Upperton who is away training with the CBC for Olympic Bobsleigh broadcasts. It is Monday January 13. This edition of the WinSport Weekly Report is brought to you by Ski Cellar Snowboard.
Earlier this month, here at the Under Armour half pipe we hosted the first ever world cup in half pipe SKIING! It was one of the final qualifying events for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games with Canadians Justin Dorey, Noah Bowman and Matt Margetts coming in 1, 2, 3!
They didn't start on a Sochi size super pipe like this one....165meters long with walls 22 feet high.
They started on a mini pipe like this one....that's half the size. If you ever wanted to learn how to master a half pipe, COP is the place to come.
Events this week start tonight with the Royal Series slopestyle event in the upper terrain park.
Watch future Olympians tackle the half pipe Thursday night January 16 for the Alberta Freestyle Ski Association provincial competition. The big superpipe will be closed to the public Thursday from noon to 9pm for the event.
There's a lot more than the half pipes at COP. We have some unique winter sport events coming up this weekend including ...
The Alberta Biathlon Club's Kinder Cup Saturday morning on the grid and small loop of our Nordic trails.
Also on Sat Jan 18 is the Fat Tire Bike Race and Festival.! Its awesome but don't worry skiers, they're in the Husky Gardens so the ski hill is not affected.
Sunday night Jan 19 is the Yeti Elevator snow shoe race! I didn't know Yeti's needed snow shoes.
Jan 18 and 19 is the 28th Annual Esso Golden Ring 30-team Ringette Tournament at the Markin McPhail Centre at COP.

This is our second day up in Golden, BC, Canada. We went on Kicking Horse Mountain and I(Tyler totaly bailed, but we(Dylan) did some awesome jumps. Sorry we didnt get the vlog up comming out here.
