Macroom Golf Club
Founded in 1925, Macroom Golf Club has been a long-standing fixture in Irish golf.
The entrance through the castle gate in the centre of the town leads you to an area steeped in history.
The course sits on the site of the 12th Century Castle Demesne.
Lady Olivia Ardilaun, a descendant of the McCarthy chiefs, and the widow of Lord Ardilaun, sold the castle demesne in 1924 to a group of local businessmen, to be held in trust for the people of the town.
(Incidentally Lord Ardilaun was also known as Sir Arthur Guinness and his great-grandfather's
stout can be sampled in the bar!)
The clubhouse also offers excellent restaurant facilities and a relaxed atmosphere before
and after your round of golf.
The course itself has two distinct nines. At 6,200 yards, the parkland course winds through the banks of the Sullane river, while taking golfers on a journey of rolling terrain in the shadows of the Kerry Mountains.
The front nine, with the Kerry mountains creating a stunning backdrop to the west, golfers cannot but be impressed by the peaceful beauty which surrounds them.
The back nine features the river Sullane and indeed water comes into on a number of holes.
The club has very active and friendly Ladies, Gents and Junior sections where everyone is welcome.
Macroom Golf Club is open for Membership, Visitors, Societies & Classics.
This piece of golfing heritage is ideally located just 30 minutes west of Cork City and 40 minutes east of Killarney.

Bealick Mill, Macroom - DJI Mavic Pro/iPhone 7+ footage
Bealick Mill is situated on the River Laney, a tributary of the River Sullane which itself flows into the River Lee and thence to the sea through Cork harbour. The mill dates back to the 19th century and is built near the battlefield of an ancient battle of Bealach Leachta where the forces of Brian Boru defeated those of the Eóghanachta, enabling Brian to go on to become King of Munster and finally High King of Ireland in 1002. The Mill was restored in 1993 and is open to the public during the summer months.

Hope everyone who's taking part has a great St. Patrick's Day, wherever you are.
Some fairly useless facts about the day-
- Ireland's first St. Patrick's Day parade took place in Dublin in 1931. The very first planned parade was in New York in 1762.
- St. Patrick's association with green is just a couple o centuries old; for over 1,000 years St. Patrick's colour was blue.
- It did not become a public holiday in Ireland until 1903.
- From 1927 to 1961, the RDS Dog Show was the only place to legally drink on St. Patrick's Day.
- The Cork village of Dripsey supposedly has the world's shortest parade, which runs 23.4 metres, from The Weigh Inn to the Lee Valley bar.
- St. Patrick's Day 1959 saw the birth of the least successful ever Irish export to the US. The brainchild of Irish-American businessman William Curtis, the Shamrock was a gas-guzzling saloon. Sadly the engine was far too puny to carry the big heavy frame, and it was impossible to change a punctured tyre without dislocating the entire axle. 10,000 were supposed to flood the US market - 8 were completed before the kitty ran out.
Blasphemy Walk of Ireland Day 5 -(Paul Gill -Text Messages) Donougmore Bweeng Quote: Courtney Love
A cold start from an old church graveyard in Donougmore through the plains of Munster's Golden Vale, Paul took a break to read text messages in Bweeng, on passed Nazareth house (Maybe they have a little baby Jesus crib? I prefer the Jesus in leathers with the handle-bar moustache) on towards Mallow, before giving Quote 5 Being offended is part of being in the real world -Courtney Love
