You will be accompanied by an industry-leading National Escorts whose unparalleled knowledge and talent will turn your tour into an unforgettable experience.
Days 1-2 Fly to Rangoon
Fly overnight to the vibrant city of Rangoon. Depending on your time of arrival the rest of the day is yours to start soaking up the local culture.
Day 3 Discover Rangoon
Head downtown to the Central Post Office from where we will begin our tour. Encompassing the colonial highlights and more traditional architecture, stroll Strand Road and Pansodan Street. Visit the National Museum before exploring the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda whose huge golden stupa dominates the city's skyline. The apex of the stupa is studded with hundreds of priceless gems that glint in the sunshine. This is Burma’s most sacred Buddhist site and is purported to have four relics of former Buddhas enshrined within.
Day 4 Shwezigon Pagoda
Fly to Bagan. Burma's central plains have played host to many old kingdoms, each contributing temples and pagodas to the thousands that still dot the area today. Upon arrival, visit Nyaung U Market and Shwezigon Pagoda, where a replica of Buddha’s tooth is enshrined. Later visit Htilominlo Pagoda, Ananda Temple and see craftsmen at work at a lacquerware workshop. Enjoy a spectacular sunset from the summit of the 12-storey Aureum Watch Tower, which gives incredible views of the temples and plain.
Day 5 Mt Popa
Travel to Mt Popa, an extinct volcano, and visit Taung Kalat, the breathtaking Buddhist Monastery perched on its summit. Stop at a toddy palm plantation before taking a boat trip on the Irrawaddy River to view the sunset. Mt Popa is the spiritual home of 37 nats, or animist spirits and you'll see many locals who have come here to worship them. Return to Bagan.
Day 6 Mingun and Ava
Fly to Mandalay and start exploring. Transfer to Mahamuni Pagoda, the Golden Palace Monastery and Kuthodaw Pagoda. Next set sail up the Irrawaddy River to Mingun to visit one of the world’s largest bells; Hsinbyume Paya; and the imposing Mingun Pagoda, a red brick structure that would have been the world’s largest pagoda if it had been completed. Visit a silk workshop and a Kalaga tapestries workshop before finishing the day on Mandalay Hill.
Day 7 Amarapura and Mandalay
Drive to Amarapura and visit Mahagandayon Monastery, a place of monastic study and home to several thousand young monks. Later, travel to the Sagaing Hills, where you’ll find its forested slopes crowded with temples and pagodas. Continue to the Tha Kya Di Kya nunnery before proceeding to the U Bein Bridge for a sunset boat ride, the best way to really appreciate the world's longest teak bridge.
Day 8 Inle Lake
Fly to Heho and drive to Inle Lake via Shwe Yan Pyay monastery. The lake is best known for the extraordinary ‘Intha’ people, who live on and around the water, and are renowned for their unique rowing technique. Out on the lake, see the floating gardens before visiting Phaungdaw Oo Pagoda, Nga Phe Monastery and Inpawkhon weaving village on the lake's banks.

Bago, formerly Pegu, is a city and the capital of Bago Division in Burma (or Myanmar). It is located 50 miles (80 km) from Yangon and has a population of 220,000.
According to legend, two Mon princess from Thaton founded Bago in 573 AD. It was written in the chronicles that eight years after enlightenment, Lord Buddha along with his disciples flew around the Southeast Asian countries. On his return journey while crossing the Gulf of Martaban, which happened to be at low tide, he saw two golden sheldrakes sitting, female on top of male, on a peak of land protruding out of the sea just enough for a bird's perch. Viewing this strange phenomenon, he predicted to his disciples that one day a country where his doctrine would thrive would come into existence in this vast sea area. That part of the sea, when it was silted up and ready for habitation approximately 1500 years after the prediction, was colonized by Mons from the Thaton Kingdom. Thus, the Mons became the first rulers of this country known in history as Hongsawatoi (Pali Hamsavati). Other variations on the name include Hanthawaddy, Hanthawady and Handawaddy; and in Thai หงสาวดี Hongsawadi.
The earliest mention of this city in history is by the Arab geographer Ibn Khudadhbin around 850 AD. At the time, the Mon capital had shifted to Thaton. The area came under rule of the Burmese from Bagan in 1056. After the collapse of Bagan to the Mongols in 1287, the Mon regained their independence.
In Lower Burma, a Mon dynasty established itself first at Martaban and then at Pegu. During the reign of king Rajadhirat (13831421) Ava and Pegu were involved in continuous warfare. The peaceful reign of Queen Baña Thau (Burmese: Shin Saw Bu; 1453-72) came to an end when she chose the Buddhist monk Dhammazedi (1472-92) to succeed her. Under Dhammazedi Pegu became a centre of commerce and Theravada Buddhism.
From 1369-1539, Hanthawaddy was the capital of the Mon Kingdom of Ramanadesa, which covered all of what is now Lower Burma. The area came under Burman control again in 1539, when it was annexed by King Tabinshweti to his Kingdom of Taungoo. The kings of Taungoo made Bago their royal capital from 1539-1599 and again in 1613-1634, and used it as a base for repeated invasions of Siam. As a major seaport, the city was frequently visited by Europeans, who commented on its magnificence. The Burmese capital relocated to Ava in 1634. In 1740, the Mon revolted and briefly regained their independence, but Burmese King Alaungpaya (or U Aungzeya) sacked and completely destroyed the city (along with Mon independence) in 1757.
Bago was rebuilt by King Bodawpaya (1782-1819), but by then the river had shifted course, cutting the city off from the sea. It never regained its previous importance. After the Second Anglo-Burmese War, the British annexed Bago in 1852. In 1862, the province of British Burma was formed, and the capital moved to Yangon. The name Bago is spelt peh kou literally. The substantial differences between the colloquial and literary pronunciations, as with Burmese words, was a reason of the British corruption Pegu.
In 1911, Hanthawaddy was described as a district in the Bago (or Pegu) division of Lower Burma. It lay in the home district of Rangoon, from which the town was detached to make a separate district in 1880. It had an area of 3,023 square miles (7,830 km2), with a population of 48,411 in 1901, showing an increase of 22% in the past decade. Hanthawaddy and Henzada were the two most densely populated districts in the province.
Hanthawaddy, as it was constituted in 1911, consisted of a vast plain stretching up from the sea between the To (or China Bakir) mouth of the Ayeyarwady River and the Pegu Yomas. Except the tract of land lying between the Pegu Yomas on the east and the Hlaing river, the country was intersected by numerous tidal creeks; many of which were navigable by large boats and some by steamers. The headquarters of the district was in Rangoon, which was also the sub-divisional headquarters. The second sub-division had its headquarters at Insein, where there were large railway works. Cultivation was almost wholly confined to rice, but there were many vegetable and fruit gardens.
Today, Hanthawaddy may be considered a district of the city of Bago.

Yangon Street Food ft. Marc & Sa Ba Street Food Tours Part 3 - Chinatown
I love street food and I see it as the gateway to understanding a country’s cultural and culinary identity. As a backpacker, there’s also no better way to get well fed on the cheap than dining on street food! However, whenever I arrive in a new country I have a problem – I don’t know where to find the most authentic street food that’s also safe (food poisoning sucks!). Doesn’t matter how much research I do beforehand, the fact is that nothing beats a local’s knowledge and experience when it comes to street food. I have teamed up with Marc from Sa Ba Street Food Tours in Yangon, who has kindly agreed to take me on his most popular evening street food tour around downtown Yangon and show me (and you) the best street food Myanmar has to offer in this 3 part series!
In Part 3, we end our night in the bustling Chinatown and probably the liveliest part of Yangon at night. A must try in Chinatown is the many BBQ stalls on 19th street, with the steamed whole lemon fish being the star of the show, downed with some refreshing Myanmar Beer. Marc also has me take on the challenge of eating a palm weevil larvae, a chubby and wiggly insect that’s definitely not for the faint-hearted.
Be sure to check out Part 1 and 3 of this Yangon Street Food Tour!

For full disclosure, I only covered the cost of the food and drinks for both of us, which essentially constitutes a discount given the price of the regular tour and the fact that it was basically a private tour rather than the usual group tour. However this has in no way influenced my opinion at all – the tour is totally worth it at full price!

► ABOUT CAMERADO
Camerado Movies and Media produces compelling and award winning movies, music and media of all kinds including: factual, scripted, documentaries, branded and web videos, 360 Videos, VR / Virtual Tours, and other interactive and digital media.
Our production effort has been in existence since 1996, when filmmaker, writer-director and educator Jason Rosette first began shooting the internationally acclaimed New York City urban documentary, 'BookWars' ('Terrific' - LA Times * 'Superb' - New York Film Critics Circle) At that time, Youtube wasn't even around! But you can see the Youtube version of 'BookWars' here at
A few years after the release of 'Bookwars', Camerado produced the '21st Century Cloning Road Movie', LOST in NEW MEXICO, one of the 1st indie films to be made in New Mexico, USA, after the introduction of state production incentives.
Again, Youtube wasn't around yet - or we woulda' show some clips and trailers before our release ;) The completed feature can be seen on Youtube at:
After producing that feature, Camerado founder, filmmaker Jason Rosette (jasonrosette.com), relocated to SE Asia to live with lower overhead while editing and completing 'Lost in New Mexico'
From 2005 to 2016, Camerado operated primarily in the ASEAN (SE Asia) region, while producing projects for NGOs, private sector businesses, and producing an ongoing range of independent films.
The internet was pretty shaky in Cambodia from 2005 to 2010 or so, and it was a challenge indeed to upload large movie files on a regular basis.
Camerado’s first movie on Youtube, 'The Commute', is a motorcycle POV driving to work through (then) busy Phnom Penh traffic. That DIY action cam film, preceding GoPro's appearance by half a decade, was uploaded in 2006 and can be seen here:

Myanmar/ Women Construction-workers Part 25
Welcome to my travelchannel. On my channel you can find almost 1000 films of more than 70 countries. See the playlist on my youtube channel.Enjoy!
Women Construction-workers:
The young mother earns $2.50 a day, but must leave her children with friends in the workers' camp during the day.
I hate the job, They said. But if I want to put my children in school and give them a better future, I have no choice but to keep on with this seasonal job.
While providing a much-welcomed source of revenue for seasonal female workers, the construction sector is reaping the rewards of their cheap labour.
Many subcontractors are happy to hire for the single reason that they are cheaper than men.
United we stand
Unions in the construction sector are weak because workers constantly move from one site to another and are therefore difficult to organise. Additionally, many workers do not have formal contracts. Unions try to educate their members, but it's not as easy as in the garment sector, where you can easily stop production to have your voice heard. Despite widespread wage discrimination in the construction sector, women on sites have few options to seek recourse since they are unskilled workers with limited job prospects elsewhere; they are temporary staff and they can easily be replaced. Many are not aware that such wage discrimination is illegal. Making money -- even if it is less than men -- is the priority.Globe.com/female
THAILAND: RELEASE OF BURMESE LEADER AUNG SAN SUU KYI: UPDATE
English/Nat
The release of the Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi after six years of house arrest has been greeted with joy worldwide especially by dissidents who fled to Thailand.
Thousands of pro-democracy supporters were driven out of Burma following the military crackdown in the country.
To be caught reading the New Era Journal in Burma can mean three years in jail without a trial.
The democratic resistance paper is produced by underground dissidents illegally living in Thailand.
They claim the news of Aung San Suu Kyi's release from house arrest is the beginning of a new era for Burma's 43 (m) million people.
SOUNDBITE:
And nobody should doubt that 43 (m) million people plus the world - all of the international community - is behind her. And with that thought, and with that force in mind, we are going to continue this struggle to a decisive end.
SUPER CAPTION:U Min Swe, Editor, New Era Journal
It is here at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangoon that the democracy movement had called for supporters to pray yesterday (Monday) for Aung San Suu Kyi before her release.
Prayer is considered private and, therefore, beyond the control of the ruling generals.
It was at a rally here more than six years ago that Aung San Suu Kyi challenged the rule of the military dictatorship.
Speaking before her release, the New Era Journal's editor spoke about the planned prayer services.
SOUNDBITE:
Today they are going to hold praying ceremony for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi and the people are going to gather at all the religious places like Shwedagon pagoda, Sule pagoda, and some famous shrines in the city.
SUPER CAPTION:U Min Swe, Editor, New Era Journal
After nearly six years in detention many supporters are now suspicious about the motives of the ruling military. Many are fearful that her new freedom could kill her.
SOUNDBITE:
They might set up... set her up with their own men - maybe a lunatic or something like that. And this guy - he or she - will sneak up to her and do something to her - like they have done to Rajiv Gandhi. You know, Rajiv Gandhi, he was blown to pieces by a woman who acted as if she was going to worship him. So, in this way, somebody might come near her and then blow the switch - and then she's going to get blown up and that will be the end of her and also Burma. Because she's the only unifying power in this country.
SUPER CAPTION: U Min Swe, Editor, New Era Journal
In a nation where dissent has been so brutally crushed, even prayers may seem too bold a gesture on Aung San Suu Kyi's first day of freedom.
